  1. I had pretty much dismissed the talk of Malpas being assistant as easy, lazy journalism until I read this article about Foran's relationship with him and most pertinently, how Malpas prefers keeping a low profile. Got to admit I was very dubious of the thought of Malpas coming in as assistant to a former player for him and a total rookie but seems plausible. Agree with other comments about Kellacher though, I get the impression that they are close, just unsure whether he will step up to management or whether he'll continue to do a fantastic role as coach. The club/board have made their mistakes in the last year but what a turnaround in the last week. I'm as proud now to call myself an ICT fan as I was this time last year when we won the cup, and that's saying something. We've got our club "back" and we can look to the future with smiles on our faces. All the very very best to you Richie, you've earned this opportunity and I don't doubt for a minute that you'll give it absolutely everything and be a brilliant ambassador for our club and do everyone proud.

  2. Hi there, First time I've posted on this forum so please be gentle with me. To give you my background as a Caley supporter I moved to the Inverness area in 1993 so had a new club to support (I used to watch West Ham occasionaly in my younger years but wouldn't consider myself a true supporter) with no baggage of the earlier Inverness footballing years but respect for all the history. I don't get to as many games as I would like due to work but I'm sure you know how that is, please don't think it makes me less of a Caley fan. So, to behonest I was pleased when John Hughes was appointed but like others on here became disillusioned by a lot of the style of play under him and saddened by the events which unfolded. But that is in the past and it's time to look forward so I just want to add my comments to those above and say good luck Richie, I believe in you and think you can do something good at Caley. I believe the fans will be happy to get behind you and the team and can't wait to see the new season under way although I have no illusions, it won't be easy. Good luck Richie and Caley!!

  3. Charles--well done! Feeling gooooooood now? When will your Mars visit be over old chap, you've been up there a whiley now haven't you? ? Can't compete with an ex-teacher though that's for sure. And so I am going to give Scarlet a real wigging (I didn't misspell that did I?) just so it never happens again. Poor old S.P. he just repeats what he has read elsewhere on Scottish sites or a newspaper but really he has no excuse for such higgorance. He definitely needs to be teached by someone who really knows what he talking about, that I do grant you. Next time he will do all he can to read up on Wikipedia or he will answer to me . And here he was thinking it was all about Richie. Just shows you how wrong you can be , eh, Charlie? Aye. Luv yah, Daddy Pimpernell

  4. In 1993 I retired from the Fire Brigade in Lancashire and was offered a job in the deep south in Kent A work mate of mine was a Wimbledon fan, he took me to matches .and I soon got hooked. For many seasons a I watched Wimbledon play Premier league football on Crystal Palace's ground Selhurst park. 14 years ago the club was stolen off the fans and franchised to Milton Keynes. The Fans formed a new club themselves, ( sitting on hay bales on an amateur ground ) they joined the 9th level of English football, determined to fight back their rightful place now they are in the 3rd tier of English football, Fantastic spirit of Neil Hardley who I watched play against all the top sides . Now AFC Wimbledon are in the the same league as MK Dons, What a game that will be next season when the teams meet on level terms. My memories of that period of my life returned today. Unbelievable feeling I can tell you.

  5. Delighted with Richie's appointment, time to get the season ticket and roll on the new season and a new chapter for us. Can't wait.

  6. I can't say this appointment was unexpected and I wish RF all the best of luck. He will have ups and downs just like all our previous managers and I just hope the usual critics give him a chance when things aren't going so well. Personally, I look forward to seeing what changes he makes and the type of player he signs. They say Ireland has a wealth of talent waiting to be developed so maybe he will look to his homeland to start his recruitment. Good luck!

  8. Delighted that a new manager has been appointed, and happy that foran is getting a chance. No one knows how it will work out but he certainly has a lot to offer and the prospect of attacking football is very pleasing. I have to say that in the last month or so the board have done a tremendous job keeping the club spirit going and saving it from what could have been a disaster. Hughes had to go when he spoke out as no one man is bigger than our club. The player contracts continued to be signed including Dave the rave! Suddenly from a lot of fans up in arms and pondering our poor season, yogi went and there has been a continual rise in expectations for the coming season and excitement is brewing. That's why I love football and supporting ICT.

  10. Has Yogi engineered his own release knowing full well that a more lucrative offer would come along in the close season, whilst trying to bleed the club dry after he received a two year deal last year. Not as daft as the average bear methinks.

  11. Come on Billy - you know it makes sense. Get your agent to drop the price a wee bit if need be, and come back to where you are cherished. We would love you to come back and you seem to be a player who thrives on security and we would look after you. Hope Billy is keeping an eye on caaleythistleonline.

  14. Thanks to John Hughes for all that he did for the club, things worked well for both parties when they did work. Shame it ended the way it did. Time to move on now. All the very best of Highland luck to Richie Foran. "Richie Foran's Blue and Red Army" got a good ring to it...

  16. I think the appointment and the Chairman's excellent statement sum up what this club is all about. Richie 's lack of experience is a concern but he will have learnt an awful lot over the last few years from both Butcher and Hughes and will now have the full support from the players, the Board and others at the club. I am sure this will be a popular choice with the fans as well but I only hope people don't set their expectations too high. He'll be on a steep learning curve and will be working on a tight budget. If we can stay in the top flight whilst playing rather more entertaining football than last year. I'll be happy.

  17. Absolutely delighted! Im sure the club have a plan for an experienced assistant as well. 4 year deal sounds a lot but there will be clauses for emergencies. Imho we have gone back to our clubs heart in appointing a hungry young manager. Go Richie we are behind you!!!

  23. Anyway, being absolutely honest yes I am a bit reserved about appointing Foran. It's hard not to look past his lack of experience. That said, other managers have come into ICT with little experience and done just fine. Completely agree with what alternative maryhill says about retaining current players, having a good team ethos / spine which will help Foran no end whilst he gets to grips with his new role. We've got a solid back line and some good quality in midfield (lets hope we hold on to Tansey) but we definitely need reinforcements up front. With Doran back that will be like a new signing but hopefully we can get Roberts signed up again and play them with Polworth behind a striker (is Mckay too much to hope for?) That would be a pretty damn good starting XI although it might not end up like that! I think expectations for next season will need to be tempered significantly but hopefully we at least see a return to some more attacking football. As pointed out it's ridiculous that we finished where we did despite having as little as 2 shots on target in games. We were awfully dull to watch for a vast majority of the campaign. A return to the style of play we saw in the 4 - 1 rout of Partick would be good. Hopefully Foran takes us there. Personally, I am already looking forward to him giving a Rock Bottom to Willie Collum if he gives a penalty against us.

  25. Elgin 1 here's what would make me come back more often, have standing areas where you can lean against a barrier and ease you arthritic hips instead of being shoe horned into a seat where you lock up in cold weather, in the standing area opposite the main stand you wouldn't be blinded by the sun on winters days, meet your mates each week at the same place instead of having them spread around the stadium, enjoy a smoke at half time and not have to put up with officious stewards and pay less for the privilege. I long for the days of the 1st Div before we were first promoted, these were the best of times, so many great memories and a great camaraderie amongst the support. Frankly, the fun of it has been erased by officialdom, sit down, shut up, don't offend anyone, only eat our pies, drink our drinks, don't take pictures blah blah well I would rather sit in my own backyard eat my own pies have a drink and a smoke, meet my pals, take pictures and have a laugh without some officious moron dressed in yellow telling me to sit down and shut up after having paid £20 for that privilege.

  27. We must move on now. If we get behind Richie Foran and the Board then the fans will get behind the team as well. Richie seems to be a different personality to Mr. Hughes. More self-contained, he understands the challenges facing the club with finances and a limited ability to sign new players and is a hard worker who understands that money alone is not the answer to the challenges that will face Caley Thistle from now on. Further, he is on good terms with upper-level management and consequently he must have learned to speak thoughtfully and is unlikely to get petulant about things and spit it all out in public. He has done his badges (according to reports on here) and obviously has worked hard to befit himself for management. People grow into their positions and so will he. Along with his growing experience will surely come a growing confidence and his character has already been demonstrated by his tenacity and determination to come back from what is a devastating injury and this alone should be highly motivational to all the players. Not only that, this also represents a terrific opportunity for Richie to further his career knowing, as he appears to, that it is not always about skill but the three "E's" -- energy, effort and execution. Ally these to determination, an indomitable will to win, together with hard work both on the training pitch and on match day, and we are home and dry. i.e. Let's remember what the Scotsman, Stevenson, said about the invention of his steam engine, the ROCKET.:- "There is no limit to the speed we can achieve if the engine can be made to stand it".

  29. Hibs would be mad to look at Hughes. They will now be desperate to get back into the top flight and need a manager who adapts the tactics to the strengths of his players. They also need a manager with a proven track record of using available cash wisely. What they do not need is a manager who wants to completely reshape the way the team plays in order to satisfy some romantic image of the way the game is played.

  30. Yes Missy Izzy I was out of order slagging off Foran. Actually, now I am quite pleased that he has been appointed manager. He has promised attacking football, compared to the shyte that J H gave us. He loves Inverness, is married and settled here with his family. If JH had stayed I was not going to renew my season ticket. (and I've had one since the start), Yes, we won the Scottish Cup and he got us to Europe, (and I was there), but the last season was dire. Delighted that David raven is staying! Now I hope we can sign somebody who can score GOALS!!!!!!!!!!!

  31. I think this is the best bit of news our club could have had. I seriously believe that Richie Foran will turn us into one of the most exciting teams to watch going forward, and we already have the basis of one of the best defences in the league. Can see him look for a player of his own ilk, determined and not shirking a tackle or responsibility. All we need is someone upfront who can score regularly. Billy Mckay might consider coming back now? Who knows, we might already have our goal scorer! Richie, all the best, I trust we are in for an exciting time. Behind you all the way.

  32. Great to read all the positive comments on here now that the appointment has been made. I think there is a sense of relief all round that the decision has been made. Although maybe not everybody's first choice, I think we can all understand the reasons why Richie got the job. And, to a man, I'm confident that all the fans will give him our full support. Like many others have said, I too am looking forward to the new season with a fair amount of optimism. Onwards and upwards!

  33. This is sort of my feeling too; not that we made the wrong choices in Butcher and Hughes, obviously, but I like the idea that with the new contracts for existing players and this appointment, we are obviously focusing on developing a really tight-knit, continuity-and-team-spirit sort of ethos at the club, of the sort we had under Pele. I felt really pessimistic when Hughes started speaking out about the need for lots of new players at the end of last season; imho, we already have a very strong nucleus of players that would be welcomed at most other clubs in our league, and if we can add another striker and re-sign Roberts, then we will at least have a pretty impressive starting line-up, provided Richie can set them up to create a little more and press a little more than we did last season. I also suspect that the appointment will have the strong backing of the players and of nearly all of the supporters, although there are one or two people on the club's FB page inexplicably saying that they 'won't be back'. Who on earth did they expect us to appoint?

  38. Delighted with this appointment. Always thought he was very commanding on the field so hopefully that will transfer to dugout. Sad he's hanging up his boots as I think he could still have done a job as super sub. Impressed with what he has had to say so far. Let's get right behind him - exciting times ahead. Well done Richie.

  44. I do hope Devine's decision to consider other options is not driven by comments from fans on this forum. A small number of folk have been pretty harsh on him. And in defending Raven against the appalling treatment by our ex manager, many folk talked Raven up by talking Devine down. But it's not a question of Raven or Devine - we need them both. For all the difficulties we have had this season, our defensive record has been good and Devine has started more games than any other outfield player. So he really can't have done too bad, can he? Sure, he has made a mistake or two but who hasn't? Personally I would rather see Meekings in the CB role with Warren although to be honest, there's not a lot in it. But regardless of the pecking order, we need defensive cover and what with injuries and suspensions Devine would be assured of a lot of game time next season even if he wasn't the new manager's first choice. He is also a lot younger than both Raven and Warren and could easily develop into a player who would be a first choice CB for many years. I think Devine has a good career in front of him and I would love it to be with ICT.

  45. Now that we are not likely to be so obsessed with ball retention and trying to score the perfect goal by passing the ball into the net I am very hopeful that goals will be easier to come by next season. The players have shown what they are capable of on the all to rare occasions they have been let of the leash and if we can add an experienced forward then I'm sure goals aplenty will come.

  47. Smashing post there from Kingsmills. Also, Calderwood is a terrible shout although I suspect the suggestion was in jest. We're looking like we're getting rid of someone who is trying to bully the club. We don't need another bully coming in.

  48. I am disappointed although not surprised that it has come to this. Firstly, it's only proper to give credit where it is due. John Hughes deserves much, although far from all of the credit for our fantastic and historic success last season. I am fairly sure that that will represent the pinnacle of his career and while we are grateful for his contribution he should also be grateful to the club and Kenny Cameron in particular for giving him the opportunity when his stock was so low that Morton fans were horrified that he might be appointed to their manager's seat which was vacant at the same time as ours. Whilst last season will, in my view prove to be the height of John Hughes's career, It won't be the height of the club's. They might not come round with great frequency but there will be managers in the future who will win silverware for ICT and lead the team into Europe but Yogi will always be the first and will always have his place in our history. He could, in these circumstances have walked away with his head held high if he had been honest and straightforward and told the chairman that he could not improve on this frankly disappointing season on the money, a record sum for us remember, being made available to him. Instead he chose to sign a new contract which is highly lucrative to him personally and only then try to blackmail and bully the directors very much into the public domain into giving him funds that he had already been informed were impossible without risking the club's future. Yogi has form in this respect and did precisely the same thing at Falkirk. Their board caved in and gave him money which he squandered on duds and has beens resulting in their relegation and very nearly financial oblivion. Hibs are another club yet to fully recover from his mismanagement. I am pleased that our board has not capitulated and have put the long term viability first. Yogi, by acting in the way he has has cleverly ensured that he walks away with a wedge of ICT cash but in the process has, in my view severely tarnished that place he earned in the history of Inverness Caledonian Thistle. There will be uncertainty for a spell, we will have to examine the way we do these things in the future but the club will go on and personally I am now looking forward to the new season with a great deal more enthusiasm and sense of optimism than I was a few days ago.

    • Dundee United 1-1 Inverness CT - Report
Hopes amongst the Caley Jags support were at rock bottom ahead of this one with the threat of relegation looming large. With all hands to the pumps, Shaw, Boyes and Ujdur were brought back into the squad whilst not really 100% fit. Shaw started as did Pepple and Boyes with Billy Mckay, Lawal and Danny Devine dropping to the bench. Cammy Harper was given the Captain's armband today. It's a daunting task going to the lions den to face title favourites but underdog is our preferred tag. Anyway, 252 of them turned up at Tannadice in eternal hope and Duffy heightened the intensity only for Louis Moult to level things up. That's how it ended, a result we would have bitten your hand off before kick off.

    • Inverness CT 1-2 Ayr United - Report
Having sat through one of the worst games for many a year there is little to hope for now apart from Arbroath to keep losing because we certainly appear to find it difficult to win. We have no game changers in our squad and our manager is playing the wrong type of anti-football to help our cause. Big Dunc thought we were the better team. Pleeeeeaaase, give me a break! We were second to everything and Ayr were always one step ahead of us after the first three minutes. SHOCKER springs to mind.

    • Inverness CT 0-0 Airdrieonians - Report
These two sides looked as though they could play for the whole of March without scoring. In terms of opportunities, the hosts probably shaded it, but when we did miss the first defender, crosses invariably went behind the incoming strikers. On the one occasion we got on the end of the ball Billy Mckay's flicked header was cleared away from goal by Kanayo Megwa.
Not the worst 0-0 draw ever, but scoring opportunities were at a premium. Neither keeper was overly troubled and this game had scoreless written all over it given the evidence of the first twenty minutes.

    • Inverness CT -V- Airdrieonians - Preview
Promoted Airdrie are sitting in fifth place in the table, just below the play-off places with former Caley Jag Nikolay Todorov getting amongst the goals and he will provide a big test for our central defence. We have found Airdrie a difficult proposition at times this season but we did win the last home encounter against them.

    • Morton 0-2 Inverness CT - Report
What a start for Inverness and Billy Mckay, who answered his abusers from last week by opening the scoring in the second minute, firing into the top corner after an assist from Cammy Harper. Robbie Muirhead looked to respond but Mark Ridgers was equal to his effort in the fifth minute. Ten minutes before the interval Sean McAllister curled in a low free kick from the edge of the box to double our advantage and open his scoring account at Inverness. Plenty of bookings but no further scoring saw Inverness pick up a vital three points in the relegation battle although we still remain in ninth spot but only two points from Dunfermline in fifth.
