  1. This is my first post on the site so please be gentle with me. However, I have been an avid follower of the site for a couple of years. I think that the transfer window has all the appearances of being successful in that we are signing players that have a higher pedigree than we were a couple of years ago. Another positive is that we haven't lost players, perhaps the Aberdeen scouts have mislaid their Aberdeen/Inverness bus timetable. I have managed to see a few of the early season games and was impressed with King, Mulraney and McNaughton. It is a great pity that McNaughton looks like he is out for some time as I think that his experience would have benefited many of the younger players. Some of my friends are Jambos and they are raging that King hasn't been retained and from all accounts he has been telling friends how much he is enjoying it in Inverness. I am sure that this down to getting game time and the spirit in the dressing room. My main point is that Larnell Cole could be a massive success. He was very highly thought of at Man Utd and only left because Rene Meulensteen persuaded him to go to Fulham when he became manager there. As we all know Meulensteen didn't last long there and when Felix Magath took over he ditched him as soon as he could. Another of my friends is Man Utd daft and when I told him about Cole signing for us he couldn't believe how lucky we were as he has pace and skill. I think that his career has probably gone off the rails following his move to Fulham and meeting Mr Magath but this is probably the right place for him to get it back on track. We have had a poor start to the season but I think that if we stay injury and suspension free we can creep up the table into the top half of the league.

  3. personally I would hope that 'reviewing our position' in terms of the shirt deal means we tell them to GTF and find or solicit tenders from a shirt company who will deliver a decent kit, on time with the minimum of fuss. Probably a non-starter, but I wonder if there is opportunity here for an SPL-wide deal? MLS does this by having a master agreement with Adidas and I have never seen or heard of any issues. The league does the deal, the clubs do the design (with Adidas) and both sell the kits online and in stores. The kits are fine, always of good quality, the launch dates are always well in advance of the season, and as far as I can tell ... launches occur 'as promised'. Works well in MLS due to the centralised nature of the league administration and setup and probably a non-starter in Scotland due to various factors, but after many years of Errea delivering late and now this mob actually making Errea look good perhaps this kind of approach, or maybe a group of smaller clubs going together as a group to negiotate better terms and such might be a feasible approach.

  4. For the benefit of the Courier, he's not related to Nat King Cole either!

  7. Not sure if any of our players know how to use a sewing machine, but I could ask...they might be up for a new challenge..!!

  8. The problem with Hughes in transfer windows was his near constant signing of central midfielders when we simply didn't need them. The team required strengthening in other areas, most notably up front yet he continued to sign more and more (central) midfielders. What Foran has done so far which has impressed fans is that he has signed players for positions we actually need. McNaughton is out so he's gone for McKay to give us some cover. We've needed new strikers pretty much since Mckay left us and now we have a few options up front again. We also have some attacking wingers in the squad now. Yes they might not be players that people have heard of but they are for positions in the team that we actually need. That's why people are happier with this window than previous ones.

  10. The readers' comment underneath the letter are worth a read. http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/1feecc2c-6bb4-11e6-a0b1-d87a9fea034f.html#axzz4J2nQdvrk "I'm afraid the esteemed professor is missing a rather basic point here: North Sea tax revenues are generated by taxes on production profit, not revenue. It is a source of some concern to me that a member of the SNP's Fiscal Commission Working Group would be ignorant of such a basic fact ... and of even greater concern that he leaps to the conclusion that the accounts must be wrong rather than checking how these taxes actually work" And another: "If this guys a Professor of Economics at St Andrews University, the Scottish higher education system is truly in dire straits." Quite.

  12. Update - due to receiving sponsorship for this bus, we can now advise that all seats on this bus will be £15 instead of the usual £20.

  13. Update on the bus: For this game children 12 and under will travel free off charge with an accompanying adult. Aberdeen FC have also advised that tickets will be £5 for a child. This is a great opportunity for families to attend an away game.

  14. The shirt does have a short shelf life so the later it comes in the less I would expect them to sell. They will already have lost out on lots of kids birthdays etc. Customer Champions is a bit ironic lol

  15. And did you not know that although many of the maximum of 250 who voted against the merger 20 odd years ago have always come to games.... at least 6000 of them are still boycotting the Caledonian Stadium? If Dougal was here he would tell you, Sunny Chim!!!

  16. It is worth remembering that Yogi always loathed talking to the press - he knew he wasn't very good at it, and often came across badly - especially when printed ad verbatim. So I'm tempted to give him the benefit of the doubt with the Foran comments. That being said, his claims that his departure was nothing to do with the budget are rubbish. He clearly tried to talk his way to the sack at the end of last season - his repeated comments to the press about money were no accident and made his position untenable. This interview is little else other than him advertising himself for a new job, claiming that anything that went wrong at the club was someone else's fault.

  17. The fact is that JH is now part of our past and, due to his own actions, a somewhat tarnished part of our past at that. We now have a new manager who is admittedly inexperienced but is learning all the time, who is happy to listen to and respect the views of senior players. I suspect that Yogi would have regarded the recent players meeting as dissent rather than as a positive thing as Richie clearly does. A manager who is happy to be here, who has a good relationship with the board and chairman, who does not leave out key players out of petty revenge and who is content with his budget which is the maximum we can afford and is not to stubborn to change things when they are clearly not working. ICT and Richie Foran have a bright future in the game. I doubt that the same can be said for John Hughes.

  18. Just graceless. He could have just said "I wish Richie Foran all the best" and left it, but no: he has to put the boot in and say he doesn't see him as a coach and that he doesn't have any ideas! Forgive me for saying, but JH was hardly mastermind - his solution to every situation was to "keep possession". Who knows whether he's right about RF, but (a) give the guy a chance and (b) get off your high horse!

    • Queens Park 0-1 Inverness CT - Report
Massive: Just under 1500 fans rattled around inside the national stadium for the proverbial six-pointer at the bottom of the table with Inverness looking to get out of the play-off place and Queens one point ahead at the start of the game. In a tense first half Cammy Harper scored a stunning free kick after Cillian Sheridan had handled 25 yards out. Boom! That's how it ended despite QP upping their game in the second period as Inverness kept them at bay.

Hampden Calling: Carragher is now a doubt after feeling his hamstring. Other than that not much has changed apart from Remi Savage, who has not recovered after he got a boot in the face from Cammy Kerr. Apparently Kerr's boot is OK but Savage is suffering from minor concussion and will miss the next couple of games. Maybe that was Kerr ensuring he gets a game this weekend.

    • Inverness CT 2-1 Arbroath - Report
Smokies Kippered: On a blustery day more akin to AA Milne and Winnie the Pooh, Arbroath and Inverness battled it out to see who would get the final nails hammered into their coffins. Arbroath were in the last chance snug in the last chance saloon, whilst Inverness have one foot in the grave. I don't believe it! Arbroath tried everything, they even took their own wind with them. However, they had Murray, Bird and Slater on from the start but O'Brien missed out. Zak Delaney also started for the Red Lichties. A bright opening spell saw Alex Samuel denied twice inside five minutes. Once by a combination of Max Boruc and his crossbar, the second by Boruc on his own as Samuel got his shot away from inside the box. Wallace Duffy got the goal we deserved on the interval as he drove across the keeper from the right side of the box to put us in ahead at the break. Leighton McIntosh restored parity on the hour as he drilled home from eighteen yards, but Alex Samuel won the points with a late strike to all but relegate ten man Arbroath who had Ricky Little sent off.

    • Inverness CT -V- Arbroath - Preview
It's Now or Never: That's what Elvis used to say. We are in deep trouble up to our necks with no signs that we can turn this around. Defeat to Arbroath could be the final nail in our coffin with only fifteen points available to us ahead of this game. The play-offs are looking more likely by the minute, but it's not beyond the realms of possibilty that automatic relegation is still an option should Arbroath beat us on Saturday. With the long suffering fans rapidly losing faith in Big Dunc, it's crunch time as Arbroath head North to the venue they won at the last time they were here. Sadly they come to the Caledonian Stadium off the back of a 2-1 midweek defeat to Airdrie, and we could all but relegate them on Saturday with a win. However, that's nothing to gloat about as we could be next...

    • Partick 1-0 Inverness CT - Report
Big Trouble Down the Dump: Billy Mckay was back in the starting XI along with Samson Lawal with Pepple dropping to the bench and Shaw out for the season. Both teams had seven on the bench with Roddy MacGregor getting a rare seat. Scott Robinson scored the only goal of the game just before the break. Inverness were reduced to ten men when Cammy Kerr was sent off just after an hour. Despite creating more opportunities, the points just evaded us.

      Meh!
