Aye, a long history of sending our lads to fight pointless wars for the very empire that squeezed the life out of the area in the first place.7 points

Ah yes, let's teach more young men and women how to kill and then send them off to be canon fodder in more pointless wars.4 points

Not sure what the reasoning is, and quite frankly, not interested, but the level of abusive posting has reached a point where its becoming a really big problem. Not going to bother writing a big tome on the subject now ... its been done before, and I have linked below this to the last couple of topics from 2012 and 2009 that seem relevant. I know one or two will read it and others may just say "**** off !" ... so be it. Bottom line is that the personal abuse of other posters stops now or the ban hammer comes out. That's not a threat, its a promise. You want to abuse someone? then do it somewhere else, we don't want you. This is not what this website is for. We do not invest in software and hosting to give someone the opportunity to hide behind a keyboard and bully, abuse or defame others. We do it so fans can discuss and debate all things ICT (and beyond), to give fans a place where they can congratulate and criticise the club in equal measure, ask questions, seek opinions, and where supporters of the club of any age can spend some time enjoyably without being the subject of personal attacks. Right now, the personal abuse and vitriol from many directions makes it far from enjoyable.3 points

Takes a bit of time doesn't it, new gaffer, loads of new players, who is any good, who works well with whom, who will settle in? Definitely some green shoots there, and that 2nd goal is a thing of beauty...If Man City had scored that it would be on SkySports all weekend, the ball was moved so quickly it caught all of Dundee's team out. Looked like a great away crowd btw! As an aside loving the new shop and the work of the Stadium Development Project, feels like the club is going in the right direction3 points

To be fair, that's not all national service personnel were taught. They were taught the noble skills of vicious bullying, abuse of power, misogyny, homophobia and racism as well.2 points

A few weeks ago there was legitimate cause for concern based on poor play and poor results. Now there is legitimate cause for optimism based on better play and better results. Surely that has to be welcomed by everyone getting behind the push rather than bickering about whether fans were justified in posting criticism at a time when such comments seemed to have some justification. We are all fans of ICT, some are happy clappers who will never criticise no matter how bad things get. Others prefer to air their concerns and criticism. It's called free speech and this forum would be a very dull place without it.2 points

Well you give yourself a big pat on the back and have a word with your GP if you really believe that constantly attacking the club and team on this forum is finally delivering good performances. It is John Robertson and the players who are turning things around with massive help from the away support. It will be interesting to see what happens when they play in front of the boo boys at home.2 points

Want to say a Hugh Thank you to Lady F. She has very kindly just called me and told me she has a programme for me and she is sending it free of charge. I am blown away with her kindness. She is a true fan and a special lady. Wish there was more people in the world like this. I promised I would donate money to charity on her behalf and post the receipt on this forum. Thank you again.2 points

I would be delighted to see the pre season title favourites make that particular error.1 point

A typically rude and condescending response. I thought one of the main arguments for national service was to teach respect. Obviously with you they failed miserably.1 point

A full back needs pace off the mark as he is usually up against a pacy winger. The Manager sees him in training every day and is best placed to decide whether a players time is up, then there's the money aspect, probably makes sense all round. I think everyone will remember that semi winner with fondness.1 point

Well I remarked to Mary Hill about moving his sweet left foot into midfield at the Midden game.1 point

Its interesting to see comments from certain fans who seem to think because they refuse to criticise or say anything negative that they are infact 'better' fans than those of us who put across our concerns regarding the club direction and structure of both playing and management. There is a constant and in some ways highly tiresome citing of home fans being nothing but abusive to players - I think on several threads its been unanimously agreed (that the minority who partake) is unacceptable - however its the responsibility of every other fan to ensure that this is not tolerated and reported to the stewards and the club - bringing it up on every other post on this site will do nothing. While its good to see improvements in performances and results, the Utd result at the wknd should rightly bring positivity, however I think its still too early to get carried away - afterall we saw a few false dawns last year too.1 point

You can see the way they are becoming a team by the way they all celebrated the goal. Hopefully it will give Jake a huge boost too.1 point

All 4 combined brilliantly to produce a wonderful team goal. But what I like most about the goal is the way the guys seemed to focus their congratulations on Mulraney. He's taken a bit of stick for having no end product but he got the assist for this and I think that is maybe his first. For his team mates to react as they did will be really important in helping Jake utilise his undoubted skills as part of a team. That might be the best goal we score all season, but if it marks the transition of Mulraney into a team player, it might also be the most important.1 point

I don't see a single post expressing negative views towards the armed forces. Some, however, do take issue with a particular group of individuals being given preferential treatment when other equally, or perhaps more, deserving groups do not.1 point

Think that ship has sailed Raven has said in press he intends to move back south in January to settle in time for his daughter starting school next summer given the way he has been treated by previous 2 managers and present cant say i blame him IMO it will be a sad day as he is a truly lovely guy and who cant forget that moment at Hampden1 point

I hadn't realised at the time that Bell was in the left back position winnIng the ball and effectively starting the move he finished a few seconds later at the other end. Bell, Vigurs, Bell, Vigurs, Polworth, Mulraney, Bell GOAL! Tremendous.1 point

Hmmmm Dumbarton was worst Ive seen in a long time. However its great to see improvement and long may it continue1 point

Seriously!!. The plain fact is that our level of performance in most games was not as bad as some people thought but individual errors were costing us. These errors are being hugely reduced and confidence is returning to the team. Confidence, more than anything else, has made the difference, not what you have stated.1 point

It's not a national event - Armed Forces Day is in June. I think Renegade and Kingsmills are correct to broaden the topic to raise concerns about US style jingoism. The feting of military personnel is dangerous. It's used by governments to stir up nationalist fervour and provide public support support for imperialist foreign interventions. To those who say they'd be happy to support a similar day for nurses or teachers or whatever - you're not being asked to. Only armed forces. Why?1 point

I hope those calling for the head of JR are feeling a little embarrassed now! Absolutely delighted with the way the team are going and gelling, all credit to the manager.1 point

Two thoroughly impressive performances since our players and coaches started playing WWE on the sidelines. Fingers crossed Robertson did a Peoples Elbow on Coll Donaldson on the bus home to inspire us for next weeks game.1 point

In many ways I hope not. I’m sure there are loads of us that met him and I really liked him when I spoke to him. Even if you bumped into him in Costa or at the Millburn Chinese he would always have a Good natter and came across as a really decent guy. I hope for him and his young family he finds something that he enjoys as he always came across well1 point

It's not only rangers who reward our armed forces aberdeen county hearts hibs all provide free tickets to forces personnel through a ticket website called tickets for troops so this rubbish about becoming rangers is nonsense. Have those who are moaning ever served in the forces or emergency services if not pipe down.0 points

Well done ICT. It's a great idea to show support for our troops. I often look at the patriotism of the Americans and how they show support. I wish we had that level of enthusiasm for our soldiers in this country. The sacrifices they make are not acknowledged enough imho. Top marks to the club for this. ??????-1 points

I mean the patriotism of the American public towards their forces.-1 points

The chant "you're only singing when you're winning," comes to mind. There may have been legitimate cause for concern but calling for the sacking of a new manager of a newly relegated team with little budget after a few games? It's like some people expect results and when it doesn't happen, players get abuse shouted at them, the team gets boo-ed and everyone takes offence like JR had taken a **** in their dinner! Absolutely. It's now really important that the home support get behind the team next week and not resort to shouting abuse etc-1 points

I could probably imagine anything, now that Syrian refugees have been accommodated in the "safety" of Alness. Frying pans and fires come to mind.-1 points

this thread has been taken so far off topic and has become so abusive between posters that I am shutting it down. If posters want to discuss the american military, jingoism, national service or anything else that is barely relevant to the topic of ICT having a forces appreciation day then start a thread in the relevant place.-1 points

Bring back National Service..............!!-2 points

Typical responses from the ignorant. National service was there for the defence of the Country. I don't think you have the slightest bit of experience of such or you wouldn't be putting a slur on this. Pity you weren't involved it would probably have given you a better insight to life and made you a much better person. Or then again in some cases maybe not !-2 points

If I were in the Armed Forces and I considered popping along to the event, then I'd think again after reading this thread. If the amount of negativity and red dots from ICT fans on this thread is a snapshot of ICT fans views towards our countries Armed Forces, then that is a sad state of affairs for a town that has has had a long history with Scottish regiments.-3 points

Inverness CT 0-1 Raith Rovers - Report
tm4tj posted an article in Reports 2023-24,
Inverness threatened the Raith goal and but for Kevin Dabrowski and his bar they could have been dead and buried at the interval. No score at the break and all to play for in the second half. Vaughan opened the scoring early in the second half and Samuel almost levelled but his shot from distance cannoned away off the post. The crossbar was hit a further twice but the goal would not come. Despite peppering the Raith goal, MotM Dabrowski would not be beaten with a string of saves ranging from brilliant to miraculous.-

Inverness CT -V- Raith Rovers - Preview
tm4tj posted an article in Previews 2023-24,
The great escape coninues on Friday night at the Caledonian Stadium as we host Raith Rovers in a game that will also be screened live on BBC Scotland with Raith trying to cling on to the coat tails of Dundee United and the Caley Jags looking to slither away from the play-off zone. What could possibly go wrong? Savage and Carragher will be joined in the squad by a welcome returnee in Sean McAllister who has returned fit from Everton after about six weeks out. That's a nice wee bonus for Big Dunc. However, he has the wrath from Arbroath after his "tools down" comment in his pre-match interview. As long as he has not got the wrath from Raith. Keep the faith!-

Queens Park 0-1 Inverness CT - Report
tm4tj posted an article in Reports 2023-24,
Massive: Just under 1500 fans rattled around inside the national stadium for the proverbial six-pointer at the bottom of the table with Inverness looking to get out of the play-off place and Queens one point ahead at the start of the game. In a tense first half Cammy Harper scored a stunning free kick after Cillian Sheridan had handled 25 yards out. Boom! That's how it ended despite QP upping their game in the second period as Inverness kept them at bay.-

Queens Park -V- Inverness CT - Preview
tm4tj posted an article in Previews 2023-24,
Hampden Calling: Carragher is now a doubt after feeling his hamstring. Other than that not much has changed apart from Remi Savage, who has not recovered after he got a boot in the face from Cammy Kerr. Apparently Kerr's boot is OK but Savage is suffering from minor concussion and will miss the next couple of games. Maybe that was Kerr ensuring he gets a game this weekend.-

Inverness CT 2-1 Arbroath - Report
tm4tj posted an article in Reports 2023-24,
Smokies Kippered: On a blustery day more akin to AA Milne and Winnie the Pooh, Arbroath and Inverness battled it out to see who would get the final nails hammered into their coffins. Arbroath were in the last chance snug in the last chance saloon, whilst Inverness have one foot in the grave. I don't believe it! Arbroath tried everything, they even took their own wind with them. However, they had Murray, Bird and Slater on from the start but O'Brien missed out. Zak Delaney also started for the Red Lichties. A bright opening spell saw Alex Samuel denied twice inside five minutes. Once by a combination of Max Boruc and his crossbar, the second by Boruc on his own as Samuel got his shot away from inside the box. Wallace Duffy got the goal we deserved on the interval as he drove across the keeper from the right side of the box to put us in ahead at the break. Leighton McIntosh restored parity on the hour as he drilled home from eighteen yards, but Alex Samuel won the points with a late strike to all but relegate ten man Arbroath who had Ricky Little sent off.
