    Rory

Ally McCoist - one of the best strikers in Europe at his prime. Kenny Miller - an international who has played in the Premiership. Paul McStay - played for 15 years at the highest level and couldhave signed for Inter Milan if he wasn't a doe-eyed Celtic fan. Maybe not the best comparisons for Rory, who is an inexperienced youngster trying to make it in the SPL. No pressure Rory :014:
  2. Before my time but apparently a fantastic player and Everton legend, RIP. A ***** manager though.

    SPL XI

Hartley has been ***** since he signed for Celtic. Cowie is in the Division One team.
  4. Let's hope County and Airdrie both win.

    Rory

I have seen Rory play superbly in the reserves and don't forget he was our best player against Celtic a few months back. He does have potential but in common with many young players can't produce it consistently enough. He is still young and I hope he manages to show what he did against the tims on a regular basis. he is a regular scorer in our reserves and under 19s as well. Brewster compared Rory to Garry O'Connor, a player who got real stick from Hibs fans while he was coming through, only to become one of the best Scottish strikers around and be bought for over a million quid.
  6. Remember when he came on against Hibs and almost pinged one in from 20 yards with his first touch?
  7. Would the SPL this season really be that much better for having St Johnstone, Hamilton Accies, Ross County and Clyde in it? If you increase the number of teams in the league and reduce the number of games you are simply bringing poorer sides into the league and reducing the money for teams to try and build better clubs. I think that the current set up is fine.
  8. I don't even understand the original comment, can someone explain it to me while I look for my Dunces hat?
  9. Gary Wood used to play for Elgin City and came to us when their youth system was wound down, along with Ian Vigurs and a couple of others. I think he has played a few times for Rothes in the HFL and turned down a scholarship at a US college to give us a try. Whilst at Elgin he scored plenty goals in the youth team and was invited on tiral to Sunderland a couple of times.
  10. He's hardly Nicholas Anelka is he? He's seen out his contract and has been a great player for us. If he stays, fantastic but if he gets an offer that will better his career and his circumstances then good luck to him/
  11. Full time 1-1 Fantastic result - playing without our captain and with ten men for 74 minutes away to a side who'd taken 25points from their last nine games. Brilliant.
  12. Half of the 'amazing' wonderkids who leave lower league clubs to the big boys end up working in MacDonald or, if they are lucky, playing for Albion Rboers.
  13. Sounds like we have done well since the double-whammy. Grant Munro had a great chance to equalise from a set piece but couldn't get his header on target. Interesting that Charlie took off Markus rather thant he 'traditional' sub of a striker. This is very positive as we still have Dargs and bayne on but we'll need our midfield to really cover the ground - are hart, Duncan or Rankin really athletic players who can do this? It's time to step up to the plate lads.
  14. Totally off topic but Glaswegian headcase Jerry Sadowitz once started a gig in Toronto by walking onstage and saying "Hello moose-*******" :015: He followed this up by saying "The worst thing about Canada is that half of youse speak French and the other half let them" :010: :015: :015: The gig was cut short then when an angry Canuck attacked him :015:
  15. When I was 'studying' for my dissertation (A Comparitive Analysis of the Committee Systems of the Welsh Assembly and Scottish Parliament, fact fans) I used to relieve the boredom by perusing the Stirling University's library copy of 'Against All Odds' by some teacher-hack (jack of all trades master of none? :004: ). I'm sure I remember that the early chapters spoke of an attempt to form an Inverness Celtic merged outfit. Doubt some of the anti-merger crew would've taken to that name! :015:
  16. To say he should get the whole of next season isn't sensible. You can't look that far in advance. I have doubts about Charlie - he was probably the best candidate at the time but he has shown inexperience at times. This whole episode was unnecessary and makes him look a bit lost as an SPL manager. However, he has also coaxed some excellent performances from the team this season and his only major signing has come good with some excellent performances. Markus looks like a good addition as well, although it's early days. The real test for Christie comes thsi summer - we need to rebuild our defence and attack. We have the potential for a very interesting midfield with the likes of Cowie and Black in the middle with Rankin, Paatelinan and Sutherland providing threats from out wide. If we can recruit 2/3 solid defenders and a couple of pacey strikers I will be optimistic.
  17. I live 10 yards from Easter Road (the street) and about 500 yards from the ground, the ******* kept me awake all of Sunday night with their pished Proclaimers songs and tooting horns. :015: Brilliant stuff from the Hibees.
  18. depends on the chunks .... I agree that posting the last 6 or a set of 6 from anywhere you choose might be manipulated to suit the result you want to achieve in your point. However, splitting it into 3 groups of 11 is realistic enough ... its one game against each of our divisional opponents and then another set of 11 games against the same opponents and another etc etc etc. Maybe but you could pick eleven consecutive games from any point and make judgements on that.
  19. Dividing up the season into chunks of games and then using this to 'prove' points is not a serious way to analyse performance. I don't think anyone could argue that we had a terrible run of form in the middle of the season, going nine games without a win in between beating Falkirk and Rangers. However, outwith this period we have done alright this season. We are, at the moment, a side who are aiming for challanging for a top six spot whilst looking to maintain our distance from the bottom of the table. Charlie may have failed to get us into the top six, but he has steered us clear of relegation, barring miraculous a turnaround. Since we got into the SPL we have been an 'up and down' team - we barely totted up any points before November in our first season then went on a run and fell back again after the split. In our second season we had a good run of games but managed to last until a third of the way through the season to win at home. This season we have put together good performances and results but have had poor runs, mainly the period towards the end of 2006 where we didn't win for nine games. However, I do share some of the concerns regarding Charlie, especially the way he has apparently reacted to this defeat. It was a terrible result but to apparently throw about talk of quitting the club isn't the way to motivate players. As said previously on this thread rebuilding the team over the summer will be of vital importance. We are sure to lose our captain and our leading goalscorer with others possibly leaving as well. To do this with an inexperienced manager is a risk especially as we hear talk about improving salaries etc. If we are saddled with expensive duds and go down it could be a disaster for the club. If we only lose Dargo and Dods we need to bring in at least 2/3 defenders and a new striker. As I said somewhere (might even be on this thread :015: ) Hibs paid £100,000 for Rob Jones and got a fantastic defender, captain and leader. There are bargains out there if you look hard enough - even Paatelinan and Rankin from the lower leagues seem to have done pretty well.
  20. We need to get some defenders in. Dods is leaving and whenever McCaffrey plays we lose goals. Hibs signed Rob Jones for £100,000 from the English League Two, get some feelers out for a similar sort of player. It's pretty obvious that Dargs is off as well and McSwegan will probably be freed. We need to sign two strikers, preferably wtih a bit of pace.
