  1. Yes, I believe there was a fair bit of that at Kingsmills that afternoon. I also remember being outside Kingsmills the following Saturday when the Wickers were removing the enclosure to take it to Harmsworth Park. (In fact it was on their radio that I heard Brewster score the only goal of the cup final for DU). A very emotional Mark Mitchell appeared on the scene but didn't wait around for long. I wouldn't want to kick off another similar outpouring from RBC by referring to another of the more memorable pics in the book where Ken MacPherson snapped the Kingsmills stand burning down the following summer.
  2. I'm already teamed up with the Pauliebees and L_G.
  3. I was at Huntly with my then 8 year old son. We sat in the stand and listened to the abuse from certain of the blue and white clad ones in the Howling Shed. We saw Wilson Robertson's final goal for Caley in a 1 all draw. We saw the Caley fans who were ejected from the ground. We witnessed (and I audio recorded) the fracas when the blue and white ones (or at least a minority of same) invaded the pitch after the game and hurled vitriol at the Caley committee as they left the stand. The coin which was thrown narrowly missed my son. It was an ignominious end to a club with such a proud history. Never were Jimmy Falconer's words more appropriate - "I just wish they would let the club go with dignity." On the other hand, dignity and a degree of poignancy were, I believe, both conspicuous features of the simultaneous goings on at Kingsmills. Davie Milroy (who is pictured in Against All Odds being consoled by Henrik Madej) described Kingsmills that afternoon as "very much like a funeral." (Ex Caley fans need not respond to that with any kind of "so what was new?" jibe!)
  4. Having been on it (at my own expense) in 2006, I would venture to disagree.
  5. This one comes out of a conversation I had with a colleague about the proliferation of traffic lights in Inverness in recent decades. Maybe SP, Jock Watt, CMIB or Canuck can do better than I can, but I certainly remember when there were just THREE sets of traffic lights in the town at Kenneth Street, the Town Hall/ steeple (where they no longer are!) and "Boots Corner". At this point I am going back to the 60s, possibly the fairly early 60s, and I am also trying to remember where the fourth set went.... was it possibly the junction of Drummond Road and Culduthel Road? But it's remarkable, isn't it, that traffic density in our ancient Royal Burgh used to be such that, within the living memory of quite a few, it could be controlled by just three sets of lights. On the other hand we are talking about days when the said traffic included horse drawn Stratton milk floats!
  6. This does seem to betray a fundamental assumption and expectation that it is a football director's destiny in life regularly to put his hand in his own pocket and subsidise the club of which he is a board member.
  7. I'm just so sorry that the succession of managers who have taken Caley Thistle into the SPL and established the team mid table have not had the blessing of the insight into football which you clearly have.
  8. The Charlie Adams goal should have stood - TV pictures showed Duncan was playing him onside... The Darchville goal was ok.... I understand that it emerged later that Cousin ran across Mike Fraser, impeding him, so it was a foul rather than the offside which everybody initially thought it was.
  9. Strangely enough a hairstyle closely resembling the good old DA does seem to be acquiring a certain popularity among contemporary youth.
  10. I have now located a Courier and can quote directly the webwords of Mr. Hornell - "Wouldn't it be terrible if the hybrid ICT was bought by "outsiders" and run into the ground for a quick profit? As an ex Caley Fan I would laugh my socks off. It's no more than they deserve. Primus Inter Omnes. - Alan Douglas." (And who was Chic Allan anyway? )
  11. Buenos rides again!...I notice in today's Courier a quote from a certain Mr. A Douglas, relishing the prospect of ICT being bought over by an outside investor and bering sold off as redundant in due course. The said Mr. Douglas describes himself as "an ex Caley Fan".... oh... and who was Chic Allan anyway?
  12. Seriously, though, all the best to John. He's a cracking lad and a real professional.
  13. You mean you have the papyrus version?
  14. F and R MacDonald at Holm Mills. I've been very happily going there for over 20 years. 01463 231344.
  15. Last time I did it I could see your feet clearly!
  16. Fiona now has the text of the HN atricle on the Official site. I would do one of these link things of I knew how..... ???
  17. No, I'm not confused at all really. In fact I'm more than aware that within one post EWS has made three quite individually specific statements, but the first of which contradicts the second and third. By placing the question mark there, I was perhaps just reverting to the red pen practices of the day job!
  18. Thanks Mantis, I'll see what I can find. If unsuccessful I'll try Leakey's next time I'm in Inverness. And people complain about prices of tickets for the Caley Stadium!? I take it Mantis is using Gaelic when the quotes the word "mearlach"! I went into Leakeys a couple of years ago and thought I had got a reasonable enough deal for two manky looking but interesting tomes which I thought he was selling me for 80p. He did indeed give me a strange look when I gave him a pound coin because it transpired he was wanting 18 quid!!! ****'s teeth, one of them only cost ?1 7s 6d new! I left the books on his counter and walked out of the shop.
  19. The Highland News has got the full story on two pages, including a lengthy interview so if you're in its circulation area, run out and get a copy. If not I'm afraid you'll have to wait until ithe HN comes online or when the HN story goes on to the official ICT website tomorrow.
  20. I don't own a copy but I've read it (borrowed it from Peter Paul). Well worth a read. Did Rodwill Clyne write it?
  21. Johnboy... if you can get a hold of "Against All Odds", the complex story of how the stadium ended up at East Longman is all in there - especially the chapter entitled "Finding a Home". It might be cold and windy at TCS but you'll possibly be interested to read about the alternatives ... or indeed the severe lack of them... in and around Inverness. In addition to that, the tale of a stadium site is not restricted only to ICT in 1994. Before that, Caley in the Highland League also had a long and fruitless search for a new home.
