Paul Edwards

As has been reported recently new players will be coming in on trial, with this article revealing that one of those players may well be former Blackpool, Swindon and Port Vale left back Paul Edwards.

BARROW AFC’s chances of signing left-back Paul Edwards appear slim.

Paul Edwards has turned down Barrow’s offer and is set to trial at a Football League club

Bluebirds joint-manager Darren Sheridan said yesterday that the 30-year-old free agent – who was a key part of Barrow’s FA Trophy-winning side at Wembley last month – is set to go on trial with an unnamed Football League club.

The experienced Edwards joined Barrow in mid-March following a lengthy spell out injured. He agreed a deal until the end of the 2009-10 season.

“We wanted Eddie to stay with us and offered him a really good deal,” said Sheridan.

“What he wants, however, we can’t match. We have a line and we can’t go any higher with our offer. We can’t go up to what he’s asking for.

“We’ve done everything we can. I’ve had some long chats with him on the phone, and he’s told me he’s going for a trial at a Football League club.

“We’re looking and talking with new left-backs.”

Edwards was linked with a move to the Scottish Premier League earlier this summer, with Inverness Caledonian Thistle rumoured to be interested in the defender.

He was last at Barrow and was part of their FA Trophy winning side. His Wikipedia page also states that he can play either left back or on the left wing. The article also states that he is apparently set to go on trial with a Football League side, but which one is not stated. It's also interesting to note that a couple of weeks ago when Golabek signed a new deal, Butcher stated that he was looking to bring two new defenders in, with at least one of those being a full back. Thoughts?

Barrow , in the Furness District of North West England, is the former shipbuilding base of British Nuclear subs. It is a typical row-house, industrial town which was decimated when the shipping contracts ran down.Although Barrow -in-Furness is nothing to shout out about to live in, the surrounding district and countrside is very attractive.

A fomer poster on here, who was a clever lad, became a nuclear engineer in one of the major shipbuilding firms but I don't know what happened to him after that.

My ex-wife's family comes from Barrow and that is why I pricked up my ears and eyes when I saw the name. :024:

I think most people reading the article would have grasped pretty quickly that even though he was going on trial with a Football League side, doesn't mean he won't have a trial here as well, after he was indeed linked with a move here. Pretty simple stuff really.

It could be though that ICT were looking at him in the last few months, and would then bring him in on trial when training starts up again.

''Bayliss added that Edwards was currently on trial with Scottish Premier League outfit Inverness Caledonian Thistle.''
