Rory McAllister

Aberdeen are very keen on getting McAllister in. Craig Brown spoke very highly of him and after his statement on the BBC it would seem a deal could be done end of season.

Wrong move letting him go? Only 23, tall, Scotland U21... Anyway, he deserves a lot of credit for potentially getting himself back to the Prem in 2 years.

Unfortunately when he was here and got a chance it was too soon and he wasnt ready, going out on long term loans would have been the ideal scenario, but he was allowed to leave. He's done well progressing through the lower ranks, but going from D2 into the SPL and in Aberdeen a team that should be challenging for Europe it might be a step too much, anyone remember Barrowman - goal machine in the lower level (D2) but couldnt find his feet in the SPL. At 23, any move he gets will be his chance at the 'big time' - fail again and he will probably end up a lower league journey man like many other youngsters that showed potential.

If I was advising Rory I'd suggest he thinks long and hard about moving. Wait and see what the season end brings. Brechin are in a strong position to make it to Div 1 and a season in that league will determine whether or not he would make it in SPL. Rory usually done very well when playing in our reserve team but not so well in the first team. Why that was I dont know but he was trying to win a place against some very good strikers. I dont think he was helped by the style of football Brewster was trying to play and of course when Terry came in he just didn't impress.

You know what, good luck to the lad !!!! If he gets his big move then fair play to him, I hope he does well against everyone except ICT although I tend to agree with Alex that the step from D2 to SPL might be a step too far ... a season in the 1st then a step up perhaps? either way, good luck to the lad.

Rory divided a lot of opinion on here. Some felt we (supporters) were too harsh on him, others felt we persevered long after we should have got rid of him.

In my own opinion, I think he had his chance and he failed to take it. Regardless of what anyone might say about most of his appearances being for a few minutes of duration, that is simply not true. Yes, in his 47 substitute appearances for ICT there were times where he came on with 5 or 10 minutes to go, but there were also times where he had 20 or 30 minutes or longer, and 15 times he was on from the start ... our return was 5 goals in 5 seasons. Perhaps he was too young? perhaps he just didnt have it? I am not in a position to pass professional judgement on that but I do know that a lot of knowledgeable people had plenty of positive things to say about his performances in the reserves .... he was, and is, an enigma as far as ICT are concerned !

I get the feeling that his goal scoring exploits this season are mirroring a certain Mr Barrowman and we all know how he also turned out for ICT ! Barrowman could not do it for us, neither could Rory. Barrowman is now banging them in again, and so is Rory so maybe ... just like we say that certain players revive careers at ICT, there may just be an odd few who cannot play for ICT but who can perform for others ..... only time will tell.

compared to his ICT scoring rate he is banging them in ! 3 in 41 for ICT, something like 10 in 32 for RC this time around and 24 in 33 before that (according to soccerbase whose figures are not always accurate) ......

I'm pretty sure getting rid of McAllister was one of the last things Brewster did as ICT boss.

Not so sure about that. He signed for Brechin 31st Jan after being released by ICT. Brewster was sacked on 19th Jan and Butcher joined on 27th. I think he was one of those let go to allow Butcher to bring in his own.

Quite sure he was released after Brew got the boot.

Did he had a couple of weeks teamless before joining Brechin? I'm pretty sure Brew booted him just days before he himself did. IIRC he was part of a small group Brew tried to get rid of that January that included an attempt to loan out Lionel.

Edit - Just looked it up that in fact McAllister was released after Brew was sacked. Brew was sacked on the 19th and McAllister was released on the 23rd, so would've been released probably by the ICT stand in staff (John Docherty?) and was released a few days before Butcher came in.

Well my friend met Rory a few weeks ago and he admitted that it was his own fault he left Caley as he was always drunk. So no more blame on any of the managers for letting him go. Glad to see he's turned it around by himself. He also seems to think he's going to Hibs in the summer.

Sonds like another Barry Robson scenario.

Except we didn't release him, we got a return for our investment. Twice.

Rory McAllister has had two kicks up the backside in his career. First Aberdeen let him go because of his lack of committment to the game and his frequent socialising. He was given a second chance with us but, though he had plenty of opportunity to turn himself around, he continued in similar manner. Being let go by us and then finding that its not easy to get another club is probably the kick he really needed. No interest from full time clubs and a realisation that he has to get another job to earn a bob Rory appears to have taken the bull by the horns and turned his career around. Part time football and an apprenticeship has, hopefully, made him see the errors of his youth and made him realise that things dont come easy in football.

Many may say that its easier in the lower leagues but, personally, I dont agree with that. A striker has to have an eye for goal regardless of the level he's playing at and Rory has managed 29 in each of the last two seasons at Brechin. He has also, in the couple of games I watched on TV, put in a hard shift and has had a lot of praise in the press in his time at Brechin. St Johnston could well be an excellent move for him. Derek McInnes puts up with no nonsense and will drop him in a flash if he were to return to his playboy ways. I wish Rory all the best if he does end up in Perth.

And finally, his story should be a lesson to all youngsters who think they can make it at the top. The playboy image is for when you've proved yourself. Until then it takes hard work and committment. Without that you fail.

Apparently Rory MacAllistair has signed for ...... Peterhead !

According to reports the deal is ?600 per week, yet he gets to stay part time, and can continue with his plumbers job...

Not a bad deal if true, and probably beats whatever an SPL club was offering

Can't see that happening, Peterhead big money backer was the owner of the Les Taylor Group, which is now in administration so budgets will be slashed + there relegation so to leave 2nd divison brechin and sign for 3rd divison peterhead won't happen

If he does sign to Peterhead it shows the real side of rory, dropping down a divison for more money and staying part-time instead of moving up leagues going full-time for the same or slightly less money
