How many nationalities have played at the TCS

Not read through the whole thread but I'll just throw some out and see if they've been mentioned yet. Also don't know how many of them actually played at TCS. Just names I can think of off the top of my head.

Latvia - Pavels Mihadjuks

Kenya - Victor Wanyama

Algeria - Madjid Bougherra

Democratic Republic of Congo - Yves Ma-Kalambay

Cyprus - Angelis Charalambous

Estonia - Henrik Ojamaa

Gabon - Daniel Cousin

Uganda - David Obua

Not sure how valid this is as French Guiana isn't a member of FIFA. It's a bit like Guadeloupe! Marc-Antoine Fortune (Celtic). Obviously French but born in French Guiana.

So far then players who have played at the Caley Stadium have come from -

Scotland, England, Wales, France, Spain, Portugal, Northern Ireland, Germany, Israel, Republic of Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, America, Canada, Martinique, Comoros, Poland, Cameroon, South Africa, Algeria, Morocco, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Faroe Islands, Finland, South Korea, Barbados, Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Mexico, Greece, Turkey, Venezuela, Paraguay, Macedonia, Latvia, Montserrat, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Croatia, Ghana, Turkey, Hungary, Czech Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, Guadeloupe, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mexico, Jamaica, Honduras, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Bulgaria, Guinea, Tunisia, Gabon, Georgia, Kenya, Uganda, Reunion, Estonia, Sierra Leone, Antigua and Barbuda, Lithuania, Curacao and Angola.

Unless I've missed one, that's 76 different countries!

I've not included people who expressed an interest to play for a certain country or were born somewhere and represented somewhere else or countries that no longer exist.

Interestingly so far, there we've never had a Chilean, Russian or Belarusian.  We've not had a Serbian yet either, but probably will when Celtic come next as Stefan Scepovic is from there.

Not sure if we can count David Silva of Kilmarnock. He played at the TCS in March 2012 and then in January 2013 he got his only cap - playing for Cape Verde Islands in the African Cup of Nations (as a sub against hosts, South Africa). We probably should count him as Cape Verde will otherwise never get 'ticked off'!

Interestingly enough, we've had a Chilean score against us (Pinilla) but the game was at Tynecastle.

There's a couple like that.  I'm sure Hibs or Aberdeen had a guy from Mali for a while, but he never played up here.  We also played the Qatar U21 side once, but that was in Italy!

There's a couple I didn't include - Ryan Baldachinno played for Gretna and expressed an interest in playing for Malta but never did and Mark de Vries was born in Suriname but left after six months of age and never played for their national team.  I was always under the impression that he was down as Dutch.

A few years back, we had a Colombian centre-back on trial called Enrique Pia.  Did he ever turn out for us in a reserve game?

Och, the formatting makes that a rather ugly post!

Guadeloupe, Martinique and Reunion are the only countries without FIFA recognition.

But like Gibraltar, they're recognised by their regional Federation and compete in their respective regional competitions. Guadeloupe and Martinique play in the CONCACAF Gold Cup and Reunion are eligible for the African Cup of Nations. So, they're legitimate international sides.

My example's of appearance are just that - examples. Not necessarily that player's first or last appearance - just an appearance to trigger the 'claim' for that country!

I agree that Ryan Baldachinno shouldn't be included. Similarly Pia - I can't find any record of him playing, and it's likely that if he did, it would have been away to a Highland League side! We tend not to play friendlies at the TCS unless it's a 'bigger' game.

There's a decent chance that Marc-Antoine Fortune will play for French Guiana - he's been called into their squad and they've got the Caribbean Cup coming up, where they'll likely want to play hm.

Mark de Vries is a tricky one! Are we likely to get another player from Suriname?! Since you started the thread, Renegade, I'll go with your decision on whether to include de Vries or not! If you think he qualifies, I'll add him to my database, if not, he stays off!

Presumably, Mark de Vries was a Dutch citizen and under Dutch law, would have to give up his Surinamese citizenship.  This meant that from then on, he would only have been able to play for the Netherlands and not Suriname as well.

Some places have him down as Surinamese, but he was never capped for them.  Presumably, had he been allowed to, he would have done.

EDIT - I also missed Sissoko out of my list.  He played up here for Kilmarnock and is from Mali.  I also missed Yoann Folly out.  He's from Togo and Pa Saikou Kujabi.  He's from Gambia.  That's 79 nations then.

Not including Mark de Vries then. I agree with that.

I think it's actually 80 different nationalities now, Rene. Hopefully, Serbia and French Guiana can be added soon. But after that, we could be waiting a while!

Unless we qualified for Europe! (and didn't draw a team from Wales or the Faroes!)

I see when Gretna were still going and in the SPL, they had an Australian-born player called Iain Ramsay in their U19 squad.  While he was born in Australia to a Scottish father, I see Wikipedia currently have him down as a Filipino for his current team Melbourne City (formerly Melbourne Heart).  From what I can see, he never played a first team game for Gretna, but he probably played in the Reserve League.  I can't find any squad line-ups but it's possible that he may be the only Filipino to play at the Caley Stadium.

Great you bumped this thread as there may be a few new entries to come! Not sure, obviously about the above one, but Serbia (Celtic) and Congo (Hibs) have active players.

Funnily enough, I mentioned Marc-Antoine Fortune earlier today on the 'Contract Situation' thread - he has been in squads for French Guiana but hasn't yet featured!
