I can see myself in the first photo of the tin shed Sneckboy.

Anyone remember the day the barrier collapsed and about 30 of us ended up on the linesman. He got carried of injured, think it was against premier league Kilmarnock which we won. Recall burning someones head with a fag when we scored one of the goals -  ooh being able to smoke at a game

Shamefully extracted from Today's Courier but I thought it may be of interest to some and several of those who frequent this site of an older generation and/or overseas. An article on Murd Urquhart the Inverness Thistle stalwart who passed away recently at the age of 80. Will always be fondly remembered for his passion for Inverness Thistle and later ICT....

Those were the days when you played on snow covered pitches.  Only cancelled if there was severe ice underneath.

Remember Murd well - great guy but a tough taskmaster.  Even though he had you spewing over the touchline from exertion he expected you to keep going and fight through it.

From memory he trained as hard as the players.

RIP

Is there anyone who can tell me anything about George Pyke, who was a great friend of my parents - the Watt folk of Laurel Avenue, Dalneigh - please?

Jock - George Pyke is shown in the 1950s team photo on page 1 of this thread. Attached below is a photo of George and Alan Sinclair from a paper cutting from the early 1960s as well as the accompanying article. Article states ex-Arsenal and Thistle. Like several before (and after) him it appears he migrated from the playing staff to the coaching staff at Kingsmills Park.

Jock - found an earlier clipping on player by player reviews from the 1950s and it stated the following for George Pyke:

George Pyke (Centre Forward)

What a man! Misses two or three snips and is torn to shreds by the goal loving fans. Then scores two or three "impossible" goals and all is forgiven. A worker indefatigable and a mixer that has mixed manys a defence into making blunders it would not normally do. In this way turns defeat into victory when all seems lost. Strong, robust and a "giver and a taker" with a flashing smile or a growl like a wounded bear. A personality for who Thistle have been long thankful.

Not sure about some of the reporting language of the day but sounds like the kind of player we could do with at TCS next season.... ;-)

This must have been written by a weather forecaster, because they never seem to use proper sentences!

Tichy--you obviously have a passionate interest in Thistle. Since you were brought up very close to the old Caley park located at Tellford Street why is it that you didn't support the Caley first? Just asking?

Meantime, back at the ranch, how is your Mum and Dad? Sincerely hope they are well--very fond memories of your Dad when we played together.

Kindest regards

S.P.
