Quotes and Copy and paste

Recommended Posts

I know there is an issue with quotes on IE11 and its an IE issue not site issue, but not aware of anything with IE8 other than the fact that it is really old in browser terms (2009) !!!

Alex I have had a similar problem for half the season. When I try to copy and paste anything, nothing happens when I get back to the webpage where I want to paste. There has been a change I think on the website for this function  and we are now offered three choices from which to select to paste--but none of them work . And simply selecting "paste"from our own right-click drop-down menu also doesn't work. I contacted TMFTJob but was unable to completely follow the instructions or maybe I did follow them correctly but that didn't work either.

The typing  is generally O.K. but often I lose the whole  typed post without any reason  that I can fathom--just suddenly evaporates.

I would really like  help with the pasting thing though!!

I run IE 11 on Windows 7.

That's strange because I don't have the issue on other webpages or sites with I.E. 11.

And I wonder why you now offer three selections for pasting  when we used to be able to just copy and select paste from our own right-click drop-down menu?

Do you post to forums on other sites using IE11 or just browse? There is a workaround but it means re-coding a certain portion of the forum to work with IE11 and a tweak that stops this fix breaking other browsers. Our analytics show only 8% of users accessing the site with IE11 which is why we havent applied the workaround yet ... dont want to break the site for the other 92% !!!! But I will look into it.

WE didnt offer 3 selections for pasting .. they have always been there as part of the post editor contained within the software. You can "paste", "paste as plain text", or "paste from word". As you mention, you can also right-click and paste or you can also do a ctrl-V key combination as those are system functions, not site or editor functions.

The 3 button options are:

1. PASTE - Paste it exactly as you copied it without removing formatting. This will leave characters bolded or larger fonts etc. results can be unpredictable

2. PASTE AS PLAIN TEXT - Paste the content of what you copied but remove any formatting like bold, underline etc. you can then format how you like.

3. PASTE FROM WORD - Paste something from a word document and remove all the nasty hidden formatting that MS inserts. MS Word code is really ugly.

The 3 buttons will actually be amalgamated into one more intelligent option in the next version which apparently can detect the type of content and paste accordingly .....

Well, I have just replied and when I clicked on the Backspace button to do a spelling error correction  the whole thing disappeared. This frequently happens whenever I am posting on this forum  and I can't figure out why?

The advice I was given was to either  use the copy  and paste function or use Ctl V functioin but neither worked to transfer the text to the webpage .

No, I don't post on other Forums and simply browse. To post you have to register which is time consuming and posting is likely to be a very rare event so this would be a waste of time; so I just browse.

Scotty, it is not as if this is a critical issue for me and if it will cause a real challenge  for you then I don't expect you to do anything at this time. --especially since a low percentage of people on here use I E 11 it seems. All I was searching for was advice and thought that it might be a simple matter of copying and pasting as formerly so what could be the error of my ways?

I also found out recently that the reason according to Shaw Cable to my dilemma that I could not open their pdf billing was that they had approached Microsoft to change their coding for I.E.to allow for this and M/S refused to co-operate.....so they say? This sounds absolutely bizarre but that's what they say.

But Firefox works fine to open the bill every time.
