John Hughes--The Real Deal.

We are currently going through a privileged phase in our history in terms of management, players and backroom staff.

Indeed. I suspect that never again in my lifetime will ICT be joint top of the Premier League in December. In that respect, this is as good as it gets, so let's enjoy and appreciate what we are seeing just now.

In my opinion the biggest test for John Hughes was to maintain what Butcher had started and please the expecting fans (myself included) and I think he has done that ssuccessfully but having time to reflect I think he's gone a step further than Butcher.

What struck me the most last Saturday was how far ahead of Motherwell we were with our passing - it was quick, intelligent and smooth. If you look at the last few seasons, you would have to say that Motherwell were some kind of bogey team of ours scoring 4 plus. To pass them off the park like we done takes some doing and that comes down to the management. I personally thought some of the passing had shades of Russell Latapy in his prime about it.

Yeah absolutely if John Hughes has to re build a squad then I would also consider it a massive test but if we keep going the way we are then hopefully he won't have much to do in summer to prepare for the Europa league qualifiers.

The thing that I like the most after reading the article is that John Hughes believes in his players in a way that his predecessor didn't.

The team was always a good one. We knew that. It was a test for Hughes to maintain that and after a wobble he has done so. With Shinnie rumoured to be off to pastures new and players like Meekings and Watkins performing well and out of contract at the end of the season replacing them will likely be the biggest task that John Hughes will face.

That's absolutely true but in truth he could have implemented the passing style of play and the players alienate to idea of changing the style of play completely as they have stuck to one system consistently for a season and a half and didn't adapt well to it and dropping in form but thankfully we have a talented bunch of players that have adapted to another way of thinking. That in my opinion was his biggest task and he's succeeded but if he has to re build then so be it but I have complete faith as he brought back a resurgent Greg Tansey.

I was a cynic largely based on his record elsewhere and am happy for him to continue to prove me wrong week after week. In fact, I would love to be proved as wrong as possible by Graeme Shinnie hoisting the Scottish Cup above his head in May as a parting gift to the club he's served so well.

I suspect the downside of our success is that we will lose a few of our out of contract players at the end of May and the real Acid test for JH will be just how successful he will be in filling those pairs of empty boots.

Come on people....there's no shame in admitting when you're wrong without lobbing in more hurdles for the guy to stumble over in order to prove himself.  Aside from anything else, you'll just have to admit to being wrong again when he takes those in his stride as well

Also, I have to disagree with Johndo about any veering or change of direction as I believe the plan/goal has never changed.  If you have a steel bar and it's bent in one direction and you want to straighten it, then you have to over bend it in the other direction and allow it to spring back to being straight.  IMO, that's the process the team have been going through and it will continue...although to a lesser extent now that the fundamentals are in place.  Go back and look, you'll see it's what I've been telling you all along.

Not ironic but a big surprise that it is Caley D's comment that has brought the older fogies like Buckett  back to life and back on here. I miss these former  regular posters and the challenges they posed.   Ha! Ha!  Good to see you posting again and you won't return to OOR WULLIE's seat  too soon again.

Big man--it takes a as big man to admit  the truth.

ICT Roughi--I agree that bringing back Greig Tansey was a very smart move. What he loses in ball directional control he makes up for it in effort and a very challenging presence for the opposition players to control. He's a hard player and direct and knows where the goal posts are (but, sometime not always the bar ).

Eagle for Caley---isn't it eyrie how the  Eagle has Landed from Hibs and the eaglets have rallied to his cause and directives, spreading their wings and fluffing their feathers, like.  Let's hope that when they jump from the nest on their first, courageous flight  on the great adventure into the unknown that they will not have a pratfall like many others before them. As the wise old eagle intoned  to a reporter recently about one of our players (Shinnie?) ..."I think he needs another year under his belt before he is ready for the big jump."

Sometimes a bit of extreme audacity screams for a reply!

The plan and the goal are the same but the philosophy has changed - for the better. That really is no criticism. There are some individuals on here who have quite astute tactical awareness. I shared many of their concerns and worried that Yogi would be as tunnel visioned and as arrogantly annoying as his narcissistic predecessor. Well he noted the flaws and he welded the bar accordingly.

Well, IHE  that's right on.

He seems to have melded the good stuff that T B left behind with his own progressive, more visionary, approach and introduced a brand new, crisper type of football.

I am thankful for John Hughes that it's working a treat. And, even more importantly, that the players have adapted to with obvious flexibility and are now playing with enthusiasm and growing confidence. That's the pother benefit of JH's vision.

Don't  let's also underestimate the strong directives and the supportive role that JH is imparting to the players and the club because I feel sure that he is leaving a lasting impact and, perhaps, a future legacy.

No T.B.-type tantrums, no anger outbursts or frothing at the mouth or against the world, emphasizing the positive aspects of  any circumstance that may be seen by some as negative. Plus, his own character that really values this club and his loyalty to it - which to me is very important. If and when a manager's heart is in it and he is not just in it for his own good and advancement then the chances of a healthy and very upwardly-progressive movement is  bound to pay dividends. We found out with some incredulity and to our cost that this  was not the case with a former manager. And this left the acid taste of  anger, resentment and deep disappointment to fester as well as a sense of disarray amongst most fans  after his departure

All this has silenced who Bughtmaster refers to as the naysayers and negative whiners.

And let's face it ,Kingsmills, that choice of Manager was made at the behest of  Mr. Cameron's direct influence and Bughtie was only connecting the dots,  IMHO.
