Graeme Shinnie

Sorry to see on Aberdeen FC website that Graeme Shinnie has signed a pre contract agreement and will join them in June. I would like to be one of the first to thank him for his service over the past 5/6 years at Inverness and wish him all the best in the future. (Unless playing against ICT)

Just read the story on BBC. I agree that his lack of ambition is showing, going from regular first team starting and acting captain to more than likely a bench warmer. And missing out on Europe once aberdeen finish in 4th behind dundee united. But maybe if he does get some game time, he'll finally get the richly deserved scotland call up he deserves. Seeing as strachan never seems to look north of the A9 with the exception of aberdeen and dundee.

We have a got a decent replacement for him in tremarco, but will miss he daisying runs through the midfield. But he has been an excellent servant to the club and hope he does well in the future. And i'm sure he'll always be welcome back at the TCS in the future if he decides he wants to play for a decent team once again :)

Shinnie a bench warmer at Aberdeen

Okay it's not a massive step up in terms of playing standard but he'll be making more money and close to family and friends. That might be more important to him than going down South like his brother.

I am surprised that no one else seems to have made a move for the guy and hugely disappointed that he's gone to a rival club in the same league but it's absurd to claim that he'll not be playing. He's arguably the best left back in the league. There's no way he'll be left on the bench at Pittodrie.

Will be very sorry to see him go in June but he will go with my best wishes.  He's got to be one of our most consistent players over the 3 seasons or so.

I thought he would move to a bigger and better club than Aberdeen, surprised there were not better offers out there.

This is a sign of the times, a major football club taking players from a well run neighbour.

When one considers that Aberdeen was carryings  a large debt fuelled by overspending, it is ironic that they succeed and the poorer neighbour with sound economic budgeting procedures  losses players because of finance . Below is a link that itemises how Aberdeen is in a position to attract the likes of Hayes Rooney and now Shinnie, players who in the terms of the mining industry will sell their souls for a bucket of coal

Coming out ot the ground after the Aberdeen match , walking towards the roundabout I was surrounded  with gloating Aberdeen fans boasting about their victory in a loud boisterous  way. I cracked and in a louder voice shouted "anybody can win matches playing with other peoples money"..

I suppose my great age saved me, and the crowd went very quiet. They knew that I was right. My sister in law who was with me said be quiet Laurence they are a lot younger than you. But after 30 years in the fire service I am used to danger. This was nothing to some of the blazing buildings I have been in.

He has been a very good servant to the club and, I am in no doubt will continue to give his all until the end of the season. To be critical of him for joining his home town club, with a fan base four times ours, for a substantial salary increase seems to me to be churlish.

What can our club do about it? They can't force players to sign contracts and to be fair to the players the likes of Shinnie and Mckay, they have more than earned their move somewhere whether we get paid or not. Constantly losing your best players for nothing does get really tedious though, worse is seeing a growing proportion end up at Aberdeen. The fact that they are getting these lads for absolutely nothing as the finished article(or well on their way to being so) makes my blood boil. I personally don't think theres any question theres a lack of ambition from Shinnie, you just have to look at where Strachan prefers his players to play and to look at the examples of others(Robertson, May, Bryson, Russell, Arfield to name a few). The home town team is fine for him but i'm not impressed, i would accept that argument when he is coming into his 30's but not his prime. Really gutted about this move, they were the one team i didn't want to see him move to and feel a bit like it is a slap in the face given the current situation between the teams.

Whilst wishing him all the best it's disappointing to see him go to another SPFL side (for free). I think he would have held his own in the English Championship and improve much more as a player there than I think he will with Aberdeen.

We all knew he was leaving and I had hoped he would have been snapped up in January boosting our bank balance and giving the club some say in the negotiations. We could have agreed a future sell on clause so that when he moves again we get a further cash windfall - not to be

I would like to see the club commit to offering 3 year contracts to players, especially the likes of Meekings, Watkins and Christie. We have seen a number of our best players leave for nothing over the past few years, as a club struggling to break even we need to stop this happening.

It is not the end of the world, sad and yes poor choice in all our eyes but we don't know the motivation behind it. One defensive player but good allrounder we can  probably afford to lose However any further losses from this fine squad will leave me slightly concerned, no doubt JH will replace, it is just the break in continuity that puts us under threat. Time together with new faces under Yogi will heal any wounds we get, it is the interim period at this crucial stage in the league that could alarm me.

That said there is enough spirit in our team to carry a player or two and still attain our goal of second place

Like IHE and forresjags I think he should be demoted and play in the second league with immediate effect we don't need one of our rivals in our midst. Had he gone to the Championship or premier it would be a different story.

I don't wish him ill but I hope the Dons fall flat on their faces for the rest of the season, they have been clarted with luck all this time.

On 4th Jan after the St Mirren game I posted  "It was interesting that with Draper available, Tremarco continued at left back with Shinnie in midfield in preference to Draper. In my view Draper is better in the defensive midfield role than Shinnie whilst Shinnie is better at left back than Tremarco. I was wondering if this means that Shinnie's departure is imminent and the thinking here was to give Tremarco the opportunity to establish himself at LB whilst Shinnie is still here. Whilst Shinnie didn't have a particularly poor game today, it does seem to me that in the last few games he has lacked some of the intensity of performance that we have got used to seeing."

I think that since then his performances have continued in that vein as if he was lacking that edge in playing for the side.  I don't think he is the sort to deliberately take the foot of the gas so to speak but I think these things must impact on you at a subconscious level.  Meanwhile, Tremarco has continued at left back and done very well.  We also look even stronger in midfield with Nick Ross having grasped his opportunity, Williams and Doran also playing well and with Vincent and Christie waiting on the bench.  It seems to me therefore that Shinnie is no longer the automatic choice he used to be and that in the circumstances we should give the nod to those who are committed to the club and drop Shinnie.

I can't say I blame him for moving to Aberdeen.  He grew up there and no doubt supported the Dons as a lad and has always aspired to play for them.  He is still young enough to move from there to a big English club if he does well there.  IMHO it is probably the right move for him but I would rather he was staying and I don't really want to see him captaining the side for the rest of the season.

With Europe being a distinct prospect and so much to play for in league and cup, dropping our best and most skillful player would be cutting off our nose to spite our face.

Well we all knew he was off, but to Aberdeen? bit gutted about that as I thought he would be looking way south for a big money move to Engerlund, So all the best to him, he's been a great player for us but he must understand when he pulls on a red shirt and plays against ICT he will be the enemy, and as such will be the subject of boo's and jeers.

The fact he has gone to one of our main rivals is the disappointing thing, I would rather see us take the opportunity to assess and try other options for his position for the rest of the season than continue playing someone who is going anyway. As others have said the captaincy should surely be given to someone else and the obvious choice has got to be Gary Warren.
