Did he miss the target?

In all seriousness, if true, this is pretty poor craic. Would be interested to hear the context also, i.e. had the opponent just assaulted him in some way?

This wouldn't be the first time an Inverness player has been pulled up for this offence. I remember Paul Cherry getting sent off for doing the same thing to a Cowdenbeath player many moons ago.

From memory, he appealed that allegation, won his case and the card was rescinded.

Possibly a fortunate move for the club where a player who has looked very poor could end up with a terminated contract without any payoff if in breach of clubs code of conduct etc. The club will have to investigate properly but if guilty then he could be gone in time to free up salary for new blood in January?

It would be ridiculous and unfair to terminate a player's contract for a first offence of this nature. The fact that he's a fringe player should make no difference at all to the process or the punishment (if guilty).

If it was our star player, say Billy Mckay in his prime, would fans be saying he should never play for the club again? No of course not, we would all be saying he deserves a second chance.

Do you know the specific case likely to be put to the player? Until the referee's report is received, and to ensure a fair hearing, the player will get a chance to argue his case with legal or other representation. I believe that this club is fair, will listen, will take specialist advice, and in the end take the right decision based on the player's contract. There will of course be a right of appeal by the player, but not by the club, if the decision is not one accepted by the player.

Does anyone remember this legal case?

Let's move on and see if we can repeat the result on grass this Saturday without a player who at times actually looked interested in the game at Motherwell when recalled to the team.

I see he's been suspended for two matches on the SFA's latest disciplinary list.

SPFL – PREMIERSHIP
17/11/2015 DANI LOPEZ (INVERNESS CALEDONIAN THISTLE F.C.) 2 FIRST TEAM MATCHES IMMEDIATE

Not wishing to comment on the particular 'allegation' until the investigation has taken place, but a two game ban is consistent with the SFA sanction for a 'spitting' offence.
From the SFA's guidelines:

3.2 Players Sent Off for Serious Foul Play, Violent Conduct or Spitting at an Opponent or Any Other Person
A player who is sent off for serious foul play, violent conduct or spitting at an opponent or any other person, will have 12 penalty points added to his applicable League disciplinary record. In addition, he will automatically be suspended in accordance with the provisions of Paragraph 3.8.

3.8 Serving of Suspensions
– A player who is sent off for serious foul play or violent conduct is suspended automatically until such time as his club's team(s) has completed a match in a competition for which he would otherwise be eligible for selection.
– A player who is sent off for spitting at an opponent or any other person is suspended automatically until such time as his club’s team(s) has completed its next two matches in competitions for which he would otherwise be eligible for selection.

Following PerthICT's comments apparently you can bite a player on three occassions and still play for Real madrid, I think he is correct, the club have decided to cut their losses and free up wages for someone else. As someone who has been on the receiving end on the pitch I would love to see a moral stance taken by all clubs to ban gobbers but like Yngwie says, if he was our top scorer would it happen? Sadly football is not known for its morality Saurez being the outstanding example.

Humour aside, what is alleged is disgusting and unacceptable. It is yet to be established but if it is we need to make it abundantly clear to Scottish football and our own tight family of fans that this will not be tolerated.

Whilst it probably does not amount to gross misconduct entitling the club to dismiss him, it certainly amounts to gross conduct and, if established, we should pay up his contract and send him on his way.

Agree that it would be very cynical of the club to terminate his contract over this, especially after the man has uprooted his family and moved over from Spain to sign for us. There is a precedent with Richie Hart's contract termination, but IIRC the club were excessively 'trigger happy' at that time, punting club legends left, right and centre as part of the Brewster project. We failed to replace Hart and co adequately and were relegated shortly thereafter - karma perhaps.

We didn't rip up Owain Tudor Jones contract after he threw a punch at a Killie player, or Tokely's when he chinned Steven McGarry. Butcher even joked that ICT would avoid relegation if we racked up as many league points as Tokely's disciplinary points. Can't speak for anyone else, but if I had to choose between being punched in the face by Ross Tokely or spat on by Dani Lopez, I would choose the latter every time. It's hard to fathom how spitting can be deemed a more serious offence than assault.

I'm hoping the club show a bit of human decency, and give the man a chance to redeem himself.

I tend to agree with Alex, spitting, a disgusting habit, was once prevalent in the European and other foreign countries and was deemed a gesture of contempt for a person or thing. Fortunately it is becoming much less of an occurrence in football nowadays.

A fine and a final warning that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated in the future should be punishment enough i.e. if he did indeed carry out this act of disrespect, we still do not know the 'truth' as yet and if he is not guilty then I dread to think how he and his family must feel if they read this forum.

I'm all for giving players a second chance etc but spitting at a teenager is a new low. Dani Lopez is a senior player and 30 years old playing in a reserve game, what kind of message does it send to our younger players when they are there not only just for game time but all mentoring the younger players.

I'm glad the club took swift action over this because at the end of the day, we can't just sweep it under the carpet like it didn't happen IMO.
