HELLGIN AWAY

Recommended Posts

I think we will sell out our end. No footy for weeks, a cheap match ticket, cheap transport and our club even get half of the profit after deductions.

I bought mine phoning the club direct, I got them posted for a very small booking and postage fee but if you would rather jump in the car and drive to the stadium it's list price.

It's not often you get an away day cup match only an hour's drive away from Inverness.

I think I would rather buy a ticket before hand than turn up and get turned away.

It looks like Elgin have kindly based their ticket design on the centre section of our cup winning shirt as a wee morale boost cheers for that.

Good result for Elgin today and they will be going into our game full of confidence.  We will need to be on our guard and hopefully firing on all cylinders after the break.

I got my ticket today and looking forward to standing on the terrace close to the action of what could be a cracking Scottish cup tie.

Bookies, well Bet365 anyway, giving odds of 17/2 (9.50) for an Elgin win. Considering the current form of both teams and how we mauled Alloa in the diddy cup it shouldn't be sniffed at....should it?

I think we'd struggle to come back from 3 down just now as we can't find the back of the net just now. I'll think positive though as a defeat or even a replay would be difficult to take.

Gringo if we get beat by them it will be without doubt the most embarrassing result in our short history

For those slagging off Elgin fans I don't think we are in any position to have a go at their attendances, a successful Elgin no matter how ludicrous that sounds would match if not eclipse our fanbase similar to County I'd reckon

If any of the N.E.S.C (Never Ever Stand Crew) are in attendance they will get an awful shock to see how the Inverness Football Fraternity has evolved over the years since the great days of yore

In simple terms Elgin always wanted to be Caley but they never ever came even remotely close

Jealousy is not an attractive trait

Now 7/1 for an Elgin win. I cannot see Elgin being able to compete with us. They're part time and our players have had the benefit of the break. We will win comfortably.

I bought my tickets through the independent ticket company phone number when I couldn't get through to the club and got stung for a £4 booking fee ... just as well the ticket prices are otherwise low ... nonetheless, glad to get them and looking forward to the game.

We should beat Elgin but I'm not certain that coming off a three week break is an advantage. Elgin have played weekly and will be match fit whereas we could be a little off the pace in that respect.

I remember that when we overturned Hearts at Tynecastle when we were in the Old First Division it was the Jambo's first game after the SPL's Winter break whereas we, as an SFL club, had played all the way through. I am convinced that that was as big a factor in our win then as Ross Tokeley's big heart.

No room for complacency.

Being an Elgin City supporter, I am sure that "elginloon" is a modest chap..... with much to be modest about! To maintain the Churchillian theme, as a football club, Elgin City is very much "a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma". For years, conventional wisdom suggested that if any Highland League club ever got into the SFL it could be Elgin - although a fair bit of that was predicated on the claim that (at the time) they had a "nice stand". But then, when the opportunity came along in their Centenary Year of 1993, they completely blew it on being stripped of the Highland League title after the John Teasdale/ suspension rigging/ betting on the outcome saga.

Eventually they did get in, though, and I for one hoped that they would progress at least some of the way that Caley Thistle and Ross County by then already had and we may even have got a three way North rivalry. Now it might have turned out better if the Porn Magnate had after all managed to take control of the club, but the unfortunate reality was that, despite some well-respected managers, Elgin remained lodged in the bottom league.... and worryingly often at the bottom of that. One of the factors which always seemed to be holding them back was that the club so often came over as not at all at one with itself. Internal strife always seemed to be hovering in the background and from time to time - such as with the Rangers Ticketgate affair - tended to burst into the foreground.

This season may indeed promise to break the norm of serial failure the club has experienced since it entered the SFL if they can reach the League Two playoffs for the second time in something like 17 years. Eliminating recent Scottish Cup winners from this season's tournament would therefore be an unprecedented achievement for a club which has considerable experience of the unprecedented. Because, apart from being the first North club to reach the last 8 of the Scottish Cup (1968), they are also the only club to have been stripped of the Highland League title and also, in an earlier era, the only Highland League club to have scored "nul points" come the end of a season!

On the unprecedented theme this is my first competitive match against Elgin on their own turf. So to get back to one of the Immortal one's original questions, what hostelry are we planning to take over? I am not so familiar with pubs in the place but I know that some of my contacts from Moray Bowling Club drink in the Ionic.

The Ionic. A proper old style pub on the High Street five minutes walk from Borough Briggs.

I see the Ionic has a bar on the back wall, brings back memories of trying to get served in that bar near Easter road.

The Muckle cross, wetherspoons, is very near the Ionic too if it's a problem getting served,  you can either cross over the A96 at the pedestrian crossing by Halfords or walk further along and take the subway between Tesco and Aldi to get to the ground.

I remember delivering the midweek extra newspaper to the ionic as a pre-teen. Total bearpit, but occasionally they'd give me a free tin of irn bru to enjoy, sat next to the nuddy calendar at the bar.

Ahead of the ionic I would recommend the Old Vic or the White Horse on the west side of the high street. Both are good boozers, that are better than the ionic. The Whiter had/has a great jukebox as well.

For a family friendly pub, I'd recommend the Drouthy Cobbler in the lane next to Muckle Cross (weatherspoons) - it does good food and has a great local beer selection, in bottles.

Another option would be the Stable bar to the side of the Laichmoray hotel, across the road and a wee bit right of the train station. Pool table, darts and jukebox all to yourself as it's rarely got folk in it. I'd assume it's open from 12 onwards, but can't be certain.

For those not in the know, we played County yesterday behind closed doors in a friendly...we were beaten 3-0 and comfortably.

We will be doing well to get a result on Saturday but this will add to the atmosphere knowing how much a win will be worth to us.

Lets crush them ☠️

Really? Wonder why this was made hush hush? What was the lineup, usual first team or a mix?
