A well-known football team bus driver who covered over a million miles in 30-plus years of service died on January 10th.

Tony Fraser, of Tore, Easter Ross, died in the Highland Hospice,Inverness, after a long illness. He was 62.

Tony drove the Caley Thistle team bus since the club arrived on the national scene 11 years ago and the club will have a minute's silence in his memory before Saturday's SPL game with Livingston at Inverness.

He also had a long association driving for Ross County FC and for Caledonian FC in the Highland League stretching back to the early 70s.

Caley Thistle director of football Graeme Bennett said yesterday:"I visited Tony at the weekend and it was clear he was coming to the end. We calculated that he must have covered a million miles in his driving career.

"But Tony was much more than just the driver. We regarded him as part of the matchday operation. He helped in so many ways and was like a father to the younger players in our early days in th e Scottish League, when we had so many marathon journeys.

"He was a great stalwart to both ourselves and Ross County and Tony really enjoyed both clubs going in to the Scottish League. He was always cheerful, always efficient, always ready to l end a helping hand. He commanded great respect and his passing will be regretted by so many people."

Tony leaves a wife, Valerie, sons Alan and Michael and daughter Moira. Alan has replaced him as the team 's bus driver in the past year during his illness.

Originally a crane driver with Logan Construction, Tony suffered a crushed foot in an accident and became a bus driver with Newtons Coaches, Dingwall, and later when they merged with Rapsons Coaches, he began a 20-year connection with Rapsons.

His funeral will take place at Kiltearn Church, near Tore, on Saturday morning.

Condolences and best wishes from all at CaleyThistleOnline.com go to his family
