If you happen to be in the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium a little early for tomorrow's match, you might see something a little strange .... and although strange, it will also be vaguely familiar.

Yes, its marching season and although there was a lot said about one that took place a few weeks ago in Inverness, this one is likely to pass with a good deal less controversy as the Highland Marchers begin their yearly trek with a pre-match send-off at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium en-route to Paisley in time for next Saturday's game against St Mirren.

The Highland March is now a regular phenomenon and this is the fifth one.

For those that dont know, it involves a group of ICT supporters walking from the venue of the second last game of the season to the venue of the last game of the season in time to take the match in. Along the way they try to raise as much money as possible for charity

It was born from a lot of drunken talk in the Market Bar a few years ago when Steve Taylor (aka - Yompa) came up with the plan to do something for his 50th birthday and this seemed like a good idea.  The Gringos got on board and the rest as they say ... is history. Interestingly enough, Gringo Jnr (Robert Wilson) actually has the highest distance tallied as both he and Yompa have walked them all but Yompa had to take a slight shortcut last year.

This year, the Highland March has moved up a notch ... a bright shiny new website, sponsorship from some local (and not quite so local) companies, paypal donations and a charity auction shows that they mean business in raising money for their two designated charities ... Team ICT and the International Children's Trust (no coincidence that they are also ICT !!)

The route for the march is quite daunting as the Marchers will walk not only the Great Glen Way but also the West Highland Way on their 180 mile trek to Love Street. Thats more than a marathon a day !!!  

Although the March starts tomorrow after the game, there is still time to get in on the act by donating money, taking part in the charity auction or offering money to 'humiliate a marcher'.

Charity Auction: During the week of the march itself, a number of items will be made available on Ebay for people to bid on. Some are very ICT oriented others are from companies who may have no connection to ICT but have donated to the cause. Full details will be available on the Highland March website shortly.

Humiliate A Marcher: One of the participants will be made to dress in drag for the final leg of the Highland March - possibly the most public leg of the March - from around Milngavie to Love Street for the final match of the season. Some of you may be willing to pay good money to see that, others may want to pay good money NOT to see it.  Either way you get a chance to put your hand in your pocket and Humiliate a Marcher in return.
