Dundee Utd V ICT - Preview

      Teaser Paragraph:

dundee_utd_50Andrew Fraser previews this weekend's match against Dundee United. Caley Thistle have not been beaten by Dundee United in their last 6 meetings, lets hope that the streak continues, but with Brewster gone and Levein now in his place, United seem to be performing better so it will be yet another hard game for ICT.

In their previous 7 attempts Inverness had failed to beat the Terrors but the midweek CIS Cup match gave them another chance to break the duck. Only 2 minutes had gone when Liam Fox put Inverness CT into an early lead. And with 4 minutes left of the first half, Barry Wilson capitalised on a keeper error to slam the ball home making it 2-0 and very difficult for United to come back. If I remember correctly Barry Robson hit the woodwork 3 times during the match!! The 2nd half didn’t bring any goals giving Caley Thistle their first victory over Dundee United in history. Inverness CT eventually lost in the next round away to Livingston. The attendance was 1919. The teams were as follows: INVERNESS CT: Brown, Duncan, Dods, Munro, Morgan, Proctor, Hart, Fox, Wilson, Wyness, McAllister. Subs- Black (for McAllister), Fraser, Parratt, Finnigan, Brewster. DUNDEE UTD: Stillie, McCracken, Ritchie, Archibald, Wilson, Canero, Brebner, Duff, Robson, Miller, Fernandez. Subs- Samuel (for Duff), McIntyre (for Miller), McInnes (for Canero), Kenneth, McLean. The referee was John Underhill and there was only 1 booking on the day: Miller of Dundee Utd. Nine of the Inverness players who started the match still play for the club! FACTS BETWEEN THE TEAMS • All League meetings between the teams have taken place in the SPL. • Inverness CT are currently unbeaten in the last 6 meetings between the sides. • Dundee Utd never lost any of the first 7 meetings between the teams. • The biggest wins were by Inverness CT 2-0 and 4-2 last season. • Craig Dargo (Inverness CT) was the last person to score in the fixture. PLAYERS TO WATCH Stuart McCaffrey (Inverness CT): The ex-Aberdeen and Hibs player has been subjected to the bench since he got sent off against Kilmarnock in October 2004, only making rare starts. This is all because of a very solid ICT defence which has kept out Golabek aswell. However with Dods getting sent off last week this gives McCaffrey a chance in getting a place in the defence, in the same way Dods did it 2 years ago. Stuart has played the majority of reserve games this year and is eager to gain his place back. Stuart has made over 180 apps for the club and is keen to get playing regular SPL football again. Noel Hunt (Dundee Utd): Craig Brewster signed Hunt during the summer transfer window of this year. However Noel failed to shine under Brewster’s guidance, although still managed a couple of goals. With the new arrival of Craig Levein though, he has started finding the goals again and will return from injury for Saturdays game. FUTURE FIXTURES 3rd Mar 2007 at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium NOTE: The Scottish Cup 3rd round draw takes place on Saturday shortly after 5pm at the Meadowbank Stadium where Edinburgh City v Stirling Albion is taking place. Inverness CT will be number 20 in the draw which takes place live on BBC Scotland TV and Radio. Squad: Mark Brown, Jonathon Smith, Michael Fraser, Stuart Soane, Ross Tokely, Guy Kerr, Richard Hastings, Stuart McCaffrey, Grant Munro, John Rankin, Ian Black, Roy McBain, Zander Sutherland, Alan Morgan, Barry Wilson, Russell Duncan, Craig Dargo, Dennis Wyness, Graham Bayne Injured: Liam Keogh Stuart Golabek Gary McSwegan (ankle) Richie Hart Rory McAllister (doubtful) Suspended: Darren Dods (red card)
