    Kilmarnock V ICT - Preview

      Teaser Paragraph:
kilmarnock_fc_50The last 5 games between these sides have produced 23 goals with Kilmarnock edging it 12-11 courtesy of a 4-3 win at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium earlier this season. Caley Thistle haven't lost at Rugby Park in the league but also haven't won there since April 2005 .... A betting man would probably go for a draw but ICT need all three points if a top six finish is to remain anything more than a pipe dream. Andrew Fraser previews the match.

SPL RESULTS Saturday 3rd March: Celtic (Miller, Hesselink) 2-1 Dunfermline (Hammill) Falkirk (Holden) 1-2 Aberdeen (Dempsey, Foster) Inverness CT (Wilson, Munro sent off) 1-0 Dundee Utd St Mirren 0-2 Kilmarnock (Nish 2) Sunday 4th March: Hibernian 0-2 Rangers (Adam 2) Monday 5th March: Motherwell 0-2 Hearts (Tall, Craigan o.g) RECENT SPL FORM Inverness CT: WLLLWD Kilmarnock: WDLWWL PAST MEETINGS The teams have played a total of 11 times (9 League, 2 Cup) with 38 goals (17 Inverness CT, 21 Kilmarnock) between them. Inverness CT: 1 win (1 League, 0 Cup) Draws: 6 (5 League, 1 Cup) Kilmarnock: 4 wins (3 League, 1 Cup) PREVIOUS MEETINGS 17/02/2001 (Scottish Cup 4th Round) INVERNESS CT 1-1 Kilmarnock: Two late goals were the topic of this game. A Barry Robson goal was cancelled out by Garry Hay meaning a replay was to be played. 06/03/2001 (Scottish Cup 4th Round replay) Kilmarnock 2-1 INVERNESS CT: Even though Davide Xausa put the 1st Division side in front, McGowne and Wright made sure that Kilmarnock were the team to go through. Ally McCoist came on as a sub for Kilmarnock. 23/10/2004 (SPL) Kilmarnock 2-2 INVERNESS CT: After going down twice Inverness deservedly earned their first away point in the SPL. Barry Wilson cancelled out Murray’s opener but then Kilmarnock went ahead through a good goal by Greer. Craig MacKay wrongly sent off McCaffrey after 51 minutes but even though down to 10 men Inverness worked hard and deservedly Liam Fox scored his first ever goal for Inverness with a late equaliser. 04/01/2005 (SPL) INVERNESS CT 0-2 Kilmarnock: ICT ended their stay at Pittodrie with a loss as Killie stopped the good form the team were in. 2 goals by Invincible late on meant Inverness started 2005 off bad. The team could have played better according to some of the ICT fans on the Message Board. FACTS BETWEEN THE TEAMS • All League meetings between the teams have taken place in the SPL. • Inverness CT have an unbeaten SPL record at Rugby Park, drawn 3 and winning 1. • Kilmarnock are unbeaten in the last 6 matches in this fixture, winning 2 and drawn 4. • The last game between these sides was a 7 goal cracker at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium with Kilmarnock winning by the odd goal on the 16th December 2006. Dargo and Dods (2) scored for Inverness CT; Naismith (2) and Nish (2) scored for Kilmarnock. • Inverness CT haven’t beaten Kilmarnock since the 9th April 2005. PLAYERS TO WATCH Stuart McCaffrey (Inverness CT): Stuart has been used to sitting on the bench for most of the season, however he is likely to play against Kilmarnock on Saturday, the venue where he lost his place in the team. Stuart was wrongly sent off as Dargo, a Kilmarnock player at the time, fell softly and the referee saw it as a last man challenge. That was back on the 23rd October 2004 and Dods has done considerably well since coming into the side over 2 years ago. Stuart has made some appearances over the 2 seasons since his red card, and has rarely disappointed when called into action. It must be hard to only play for the first team on a few occasions (7 times he has featured this season in a match). He has done well in the reserves and with Dods leaving in the summer, next season could see the defender back in the first team. With Munro suspended, Stuart will view this as a chance to get back into the team, for the remaining fixtures this season. He deserves credit for staying and trying to regain a place in the team. Alan Combe (Kilmarnock): Alan Combe never played a game this season until the 15th January. However, the former Cowdenbeath, Bradford, St Mirren and Dundee Utd keeper has managed to keep the no 1 jersey since then. Even though he has a slight calf strain, he is expected to play. An experienced keeper, who will play his 80th game for the club since signing in 2004. Squad: Ally Ridgers, Jonathon Smith, Michael Fraser, Darren Dods, Stuart Soane, Ross Tokely, Guy Kerr, Richard Hastings, Stuart McCaffrey, John Rankin, Ian Black, Zander Sutherland, Alan Morgan, Richie Hart, Barry Wilson, Russell Duncan, Markus Paatelainen, Gary McSwegan, Rory McAllister, Graham Bayne Injured: Dennis Wyness (dislocated shoulder- out for season) Roy McBain (slight groin problem) Craig Dargo (dislocated shoulder) Suspended: Grant Munro
