    Aberdeen v ICT - Preview

      Teaser Paragraph:

    Aberdeen v ICT - SPL

Here we are again, the start of August is upon us and with it the start of the new SPL season. With the fans optimistic more than ever it will be up to the 12 clubs to improve on their achievements last season and keep the punters happy. But will it be this easy? Will Celtic and Rangers pull away with ease again or will someone have the guts to put up a fight? Will the top six be decided on the last day of the split and will the relegation go down to the final minute of the season, unlike the anti climax of last season. Will Brewster be a hero or zero with the fans?

Considering he came in last season with the club down at the bottom, he did well with the run to December but then went on a dry spell and the season fizzled out to 9th place.

The signings have not exactly excited the fans. Andy Barrowman could prove to be a hit or miss after moving from across the bridge but I really do hope he does well. If we was to score a winner tomorrow it would definitely set himself up nicely for a good season. Lionel Djebi Zabi is another signing which could prove good or bad. Only on a 1 year deal suggests he will need to work hard to stay at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium beyond this season. Ryan Esson has also joined to give Fraser competition in goals, and will need to push Michael hard to get the No 1 jersey. Hopefully another couple will come in before the end of August, with Adam Rooney and a couple more being mentioned.

The away form must be improved, and goals have to come from somewhere after Marius Nicuale left the club.

No better place to start the season than against a team we have never beaten, Aberdeen. A win on the opening day could set us up very nicely.

So, to sum up Brewster; improve on last season and maybe a good cup run and you will be fine! Piece of cake!!

Aberdeen FCInverness Caledonian Thistle FCABERDEEN v INVERNESS CT

    Pittodrie Stadium, Aberdeen

    Saturday 9th August @ 3pm

    WEEK 1 FIXTURES

09/08/2008 Falkirk v Rangers (12:30pm) Aberdeen v Inverness CT Hearts v Motherwell Kilmarnock v Hibernian

    10/08/2008 Celtic v St Mirren (12:30pm)

    11/08/2008 Hamilton v Dundee Utd (7:45pm)

    PAST MEETINGS

The teams have played a total of 17 times (12 League, 5 Cup) with 23 goals (12 Inverness CT, 27 Aberdeen) between them.

    Inverness CT: 0 wins (0 League, 0 Cup) Draws: 7 (6 League, 1 Cup) Aberdeen: 10 wins (6 League, 4 Cup)

    SOME PREVIOUS MEETINGS

08/08/1998 (League Cup 2nd Round) INVERNESS CT 0-3 Aberdeen: In the first game between the sides it was a Billy Dodds hat-trick that gave the top-flight side the win. Inverness CT was a 2nd Division side at the time.

20/02/2000 (Scottish Cup 4th Round) INVERNESS CT 1-1 Aberdeen: After the excellent achievements of beating Celtic at Parkhead in the previous round, the gift was a home-tie against Aberdeen which was screened live by Sky-Sports. Bobby Mann’s header looked as if it would have taken the Caley Jags through but Cato Gunviet scored with 10 minutes remaining meaning a replay was to be played. Both scorers got yellow cards during the match. Aberdeen won the replay 1-0.

16/10/2004 (SPL) INVERNESS CT 1-3 Aberdeen (Pittodrie): With all the media hype about Aberdeen playing away at Pittodrie was a joke before this game. Inverness were paying Aberdeen £30,000 for the day plus Aberdeen didn’t need to travel to Inverness. And plus they still got the victory thanks to 2 penalties. Roy McBain got the goal for Caley Thistle which was a great goal.

29/03/2008 (SPL) INVERNESS CT 3-4 Aberdeen: With Inverness CT on a bad run of form, any decent performance would be good. And even with 2 sending offs, Inverness CT were denied a point by another last gasp winner form the Dons. With the score at 2-2 at half time, Duncan was sent off, and Miller scored for Aberdeen. McBain pulled level only for Mcguire to score a sore winner. Munro was sent off after the game.

    FACTS BETWEEN THE TEAMS

    • All League meetings between the teams have taken place in the SPL.
    • Aberdeen are unbeaten in all 17 fixtures between the teams.
    • The biggest win in the fixture was when Aberdeen won 4-1 on 31/10/2007 at home in the League Cup! I was unfortunately there and a repeat of that tomorrow will not be acceptable!
    • If Inverness CT beat Aberdeen on Saturday I believe they will have beaten every team that has graced the SPL.
    • There has only been 1 clean sheet in the last 7 fixtures.
    • It is the first time these two have met on the opening day of the season. Inverness CT have met Livingston (A), Falkirk (A), St Mirren (H), Rangers (H). They have won 1 against Falkirk and lost the rest.
    • Inverness have a knack for starting slowly in seasons.

    PLAYERS TO WATCH

Andy Barrowman (ICT): The new signing will be hoping to start his first competitive game for the club in style. He scored last week away to Burnley in the last pre-season game and has had a decent pre-season. Inverness CT fans will look to him to fill the gap left by Marius Niculae. Easy peasy then.

The youngsters (ICT): Its time for Brewster to use the youngsters on the fringes of the first team this season. Rory McAllister has had his chances before and most people believe he has failed to take them but after a couple hat-tricks in pre-season, maybe its confidence is all he needs and a bit of backing from the fans. Iain Vigurs and Guy Kerr could feature at some point. Also Zander Sutherland and Garry Wood who both had successful loan spells at 3rd division clubs last season.

    TEAM NEWS

David Proctor is serving a 2 match suspension for Inverness CT so will not feature. Barrowman, Djebi-Zabi and Esson are all looking to kick off the ICT careers in style.

Tommy Wright, a new signing from Darlington is not likely to feature for Aberdeen, after only arriving on Friday after an injury with no match fitness.Zander Diamond is fit to play in the centre of defence.

    FUTURE FIXTURES

Inverness CT v Aberdeen (Sat 20th Dec 2008) Aberdeen v Inverness CT (Sat 11th Apr 2009) -fixtures subject to change-

    MY REALISTIC PREDICTION

Nothing would satisfy me more than us to beat Aberdeen for the first time. With it being the opening game of the season anything could happen and I am going for a 1-1 draw.
