Inverness CT -V- Annan Athletic - Preview

      Teaser Paragraph:

cis logo First round of the Co-operative Insurance Cup sees Scotland’s latest senior club Annan Athletic make their first visit to the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium in over ten years.

Annan have made steady progress since joining the Scottish League set up in August 2008 when they beat Cowdenbeath 4-1 in their first league match. Sounds familiar with ICT winning their first league match 5-2 against Arbroath thanks to a Hercher hat-trick.

Annan are war babies, being founded in 1942 and have yo yo’d back and fore to the English football set up when in their first season 1952-53 they won all but one competition they entered in the Carlisle and District League and the Cumberland Football Association. They remained within this set up until 1977 when they came back over Hadrians Wall to play in the South of Scotland League. They were very successful in this league and then moved on to the East of Scotland Leagues to further their ambitions. Being one of the top clubs in this league, they qualified to play in the Scottish Cup on numerous occasions and when the demise of Gretna became reality, they were voted in to the Third division in July 2008 where they ply their trade at the moment, finishing a creditable seventh, only six points adrift of a play off spot and a positive goal difference of plus eleven, the third best in the division. Annan play their home games at Galabank which has a capacity of 3500 of which 500 are seated. They are known as the Black and Golds, which is the normal home colours of their striped tops. Their best victory to date was a six nil trouncing of Elgin City in March. Cast your mind back to the 24th of January 1998 when you will vaguely remember Inverness recording their highest ever senior victory when they defeated Annan 8-1 in the cup. Both clubs have moved on from then and nobody will be expecting a goals deluge today. For Inverness, new signings Bulvitis and Sanchez are expected to play and look out for the lively Robert Eagles and Lee Cox, who both played well in the friendly defeat to Dundee United. Stratford and Hayes are both in the squad for todays game although Foran and Barrowman may miss out due to injuries. Imrie picked up a strain in midweek and Eric is still ruled out. Annan have new signings Jonny Jamieson and Gary Redpath in their squad which looks like this:- Cox, Gilfillan, Hoolickin, Inglis, Jack, Jamieson, Jardine, MacBeth, Muirhead, Neilson, Redpath, L Sloan, S Sloan, Steele, Storey, Summersgill, Townsley, Watson.

Midfielder Jacko has two goals to his name already and might be one to keep an eye on. Look out for this song ringing round the Stadium today, but not for our Lee, it’s for David Cox the Annan forward

There's only one David Cox he gets his tan from a box with his bleached blonde hair and Brazilian flair we're walking in a Coxy wonderland TM4TJ prediction After last weeks dour struggle to see off Montrose, the only prediction I am willing to make this week is a win, eventually, for a shot shy ICT.
