It's an article not intended for your regular punter but the key argument is a good one. It is that Independence is a legitimate argument when the people feel a sufficient national identity. It goes on to argue that national identity is reflected more through popular culture than our economic activity. I think most people will understand that concept. It is also an angle which is far easier to argue because it is self evident that there are distinct cultural differences. In contrast, debate around the economic and political issues are bound to be inconclusive because they are subject to layers of misinformation and misinterpretation over and above the fact the they are just so complex. The beauty of the cultural argument is that it makes the economic argument largely irrelevant. It is rather like entering a marriage where you commit your future "for richer or poorer". It is saying that what matters most is who you live your future with and not whether you will be better off financially. It is an angle which I am surprised is not being used more because the yes campaign is not going to win the nation over with the economic and political case for independence because there are simply too many unknowns and disputed issues.

We'd somehow manage to convince a mechanic in a garage to give us the inner tube of a tractor tyre...and blow it up for us...and we'd proceed to roll it up to the Islands and spend hours going up and down the 'rapids'... We had absolutely no concept of time...had no money...and not a care in the world...back in the late 60s... At the end of the day we'd float down the river...right in the middle...much to the amusement of tourists and locals...and the odd fisherman out in his waders...down to the Grieg street bridge...and from there a short walk back up to Dalneigh... At other times we might stop at the Castle and spend an hour or two sliding down the hill on cardboard boxes...and it wasn't unknown for someone to hit the wall at the bottom and go flying over it onto the road... Or we might float down to the Black Bridge...hoping the current wouldn't catch us and sweep us down to the rocks a little further down! and pop into to see someone's aunt or granny who lived around Grant Street...and hope that she might get her purse out and send us off with sixpence...or whatever a bag of chips might have cost at the time... Swimming in the Canal...perhaps find a rope swing... Cycle up...or at least push your bike up The Craig...only to come flying back down at what must have been 50 mph...with no brakes! and hope that you managed to get around the bottom corner without hitting an oncoming car...or flying right into the Canal! Strawberry picking...or stealing apples from a garden...makeshift tent in the back garden...with a couple of jam sandwiches... Changed days... Summers were magical... We hadn't a care in the world...no concept of time...of danger...and imagination ruled the day. You could be anything, do anything... Good times.

Did'nt we have a lovely day, the day we went to Charlton, Riley and me, Zog,GJ and Adie - well that was as good an away day as I have enjoyed in feckin yonks. RESPECT to Red Card fer blogging the four hospitality spots. We saw more of Colin Powell than anyone else in the ground and the only negative was yon Jim Davidson constantly trying to sit with us and constantly asking fer photties and autographs. And feck me is Theo Foley still a hard man in his feckin seventies ?!! Never did find the Pickwick but found Donview and a few crew members in the Rose of Denmark although we missed the Antigallican becos of the EDL presence and simply flashed the kilts as we went past. Still we had to be sober (ish) and uphold the reputation of the club by hobnobbing in the Testimonial Suite. And the only thing that we can say about our accommodation and the environs in Woolwich Arsenal is feckin WOW. Saw more prossies in one Woolwich pub than we suspected in the whole of Soho. I hope somebody on YouTube has posted the clip off Red Card trying to feed the beggars apparently lactose tolerant dog with a cheeseburger and our spat with the Ascot returning Finnish females and their fascination hats !! Anyway to the game. That was as fine a performance in a friendly as I have ever witnessed from an Inverness team. We simply bossed the first half and Draper could have had a brace. We never really looked like conceding and the back four have really got it together. We played football throughout and a real passing game, although it was sideways, backwards and possession orientated at times. The second half was more even but again we always looked the more probable to nick it - and we did - although I thought that Dorans cross was out of play but it was a great finish from Meekings who had started the move with an interception in his own half. The away support was as vociferous as ever and it appeared that our Tremarco song was more welcomed than our Richie Foran ditty. And was it not great to see the 30 year plus/plus choir pumping out the Ultras signature tune without the feckin effort of jumping up and down. I would love to know what Terry said to the players at the end of the game as he appeared livid - or perhaps it was becos we had finished off the red wine in hospitality. But Terry did give Colin Powell an exclusive bottle of Glenfiddich. As fer the tactics it was mainly a 4-2-3-1 formation switching although we ended up with Polworth and McKay up front in a traditional 4-4-2 at the close. The following are marks out of five and I have been harsh - as it was my first view and I would really welcome any critical or accepting feedback. BRILL - 3 - Disapointed that he wasn't tested more than he was. To me he looks a tad cumbersome and that worries me as Ryan is still struggling. They were saying in hospitality that TB was interested in a goalkeeper loan from Charlton. Brill did not wrong but the jury is still out. RAVEN - 4 - Solid as ever and was never slow at coming forward. SHINNIE - 4 -There is only one Shinnie now and he wore the captain armband in a distinguished manner - he had a hard time from the pacy winger - called Chalky3 by Jim Davidson - but he looked like he had gained from the experience of howing to play such wingers. WARREN - 5 - as per Raven in solidity and he has really gelled with Meekings. Reminds me more and more of Colin Hendry. MEEKINGS - 5 - just pinched by MOM award for his contribution to the winning goal but equalled Warrenotherwise. WILLIAMS - 3 - Again not sure if he is a starter or a good bencher - would have liked to have seen him taking people on more and he looked out of place at times. DRAPER - 5 - Sorry but he always looks better when Foran is'nt there. Charlton fans to a man picked him out as being our best player but he was more like our most inspirational. VINCENT - 4 - Really impressed and he reminded me of a young Roy McBain with a tad more skill. Perfect combination with Draper in central midfield DORAN - 4 - Perhaps my expectation levels were too high but he Disapointed in some aspects. He is still carrying a bit of weight and he does not have the pace to compare him with Johnny Hayes. He does have a great touch but may not be the match winner that we were looking fer. POLWORTH - 4 - again very impressed but what and where is his best position. He really isn't suited to the wide berth and I don't think that he is a striker either. Unfortunately he may be a "reserve" for a few positions but that is a real plus. McKAY - 5 - poor wee Billy ran his feckin socks off with little support - which was the most worrying aspect of the day. As fer the subs - Ross may start against Midden but I look forward to seeing how the big Norwegian and the wee Irishman blend. Greenhalgh has a great touch but he is simply too lightweight other than being a "weapon" to unleash late doors.

A mate who went out to the game in Norway told me that loads of the travelling Saints fans sent postcards to him!

I don't think that Terry has been relying solely on his scout(s). With his past record and contacts I feel certain that he has a few Managers calling him to suggest players. This is great for these clubs -- if these lads come on loan they get vital and valuable experience and no doubt these lads have also not overlooked the value to their careers of playing against some good SPL teams. Further, ICT's stock is now rising through-out the land and playing for a successful team, or one showing all the signs of developing and improving , must be a lure for these and other managers. Yes? No?

We've gone in to a wee 'stall' at the moment, as other circumstances outwith CJT have taken up valuable time. (eg I've recently started a new job and am adjusting to my hours changes and jugging about other commitments) One thing we have been looking at closely is buying games consoles and games of which we will be able to use for computer games gatherings. In terms of fixing dates and venues, there's nothing yet set in stone. To be fair, the school holidays haven't helped, as days are taken up with the family.

Me too, I think Ben Greenhalgh will be a good signing but I'm looking forward to seeing all of them as I watched a lot of pre season games and they all look good. The new striker we just signed is a Norweigen U21 international with strength, he is also 6 foot 1 so he should be really good support to Billy McKay upfront, maybe provide a few goals aswell. I like the look of Vincent and Williams,Vincent can hold the ball up really well in the middle of midfield and Williams can run at defenders with pace. This season will be a huge success (again) IMO and I really like the look of this team. Pace, strength, good aerial ability, stamina, goalscorers, good set piece takers and hopefully lots of goals! BRING. IT. ON.

A total waste of money that does nothing to address the real reasons for accidents and deaths on A9. Analysing some of the deaths over the last few years, especially south of Perth, the design of junctions plays a big part. there are a number of crossroads between perth and Dunblane where people have not appreciated the speed of main road traffic when crossing. i personally have witnessed people cross one carraigeway and, seeing vehicles on the other carriageway in the correct (inner) lane, have driven out into the overtaking lane. One of the most recent accidents, resulting in death, was caused by a northbound vehicle managing to find its was onto the southbound carriageway on the Dalnaspidall dual carriageway. Another recent death came about after two trucks collided head on. Niether was reported as having been breaking any speed limits. People, usually but not always foriegn tourists, have also been known to forget they are back on a single carraigeway section after having driven along a dual section. I regularly drive this road in car and on bike and I find the majority of drivers keep within the speed limits. What I do find frustrating though is the slow moving trucks that ply the road. Drivers of which tend to ignore the queues forming behind them. These cause people to take stupid chances that have been known to result in accidents. Average speed camera's.....What will they achieve. They'll make people aware of their speed between two groups of camera. Outwith the camera area people will speed up just as they do with fixed cameras. Re-engineering the road and, especially, the junctions is the only way to reduce death on this road.

Perhaps when the whole story comes to light, we'll be able to more effectively come to a conclusion over that issue. Wouldn't surprise me if Foran comes out looking the better after this kerfuffle though. Interesting that a lot of people seem to gloss over my dressing room comment and dismiss it out of hand.
