  1. I'm still trying hard to express the two word, two syllable sentence Y-O-U L-O-ST (so go away, stop bothering us and let us get on with our lives) in even simpler terms. I've even been through the whole process from the SNP getting a Holyrood majority, deciding to have the referendum according to their rules and then attracting 20% fewer votes than NO - and still they don't seem to get it. I can now see the SNP continuing their cynical contempt for the Scottish people by creating as many difficulties as possible over further devolved powers - simply as a means of continuing their attempts to fan the flames of grievance and dissatisfaction. I actually think that the SNP would be perfectly happy for further devolution to be derailed or delayed simply to give them an apparent excuse to greet and girn as they seem to have been doing since Edward Lonngshanks was a boy. As for the AV referendum... it was 68-32 against for goodness sake. It wasn't even close! The more this post- referendum nationalist bellyaching keeps going, the more the nationalist tone reminds me of Germany after the First World War! "Cynical contempt for the Scottish people" more so than the 3 amigos that gave the vow? While it might not be have been the large majority that voted yes it was still a large percentage of the country that voted for an independent country, for a lot of these people this dream will never die, do you give up in something you believe in passionately Charles? You seem to think that the SNP's quest for a referendum was the wrong thing to do, I would have thought that even the most ardent no voter would have thought that this was a success if only to get the people politically engaged like never before, including the younger generation, along with shaking up Westminster parties.

  3. A new and seperate topic following on from comments made by Charles B in another thread. Upgrading of A830 Fort-William to Mallaig which has reduced journey time between both towns to under an hour from previous nearer two hours. Funding of up to £126 million for a fibre network that will bring broadband to many more people in the highlands. Sanctioning of A9 dualling. Work should start very soon and be completed by 2025. Sanctioning of A96 dualling. To be completed by 2030. Investments and sanctioning of a number of renewable energy projects that will provide jobs and income for communities. Sanctioning of improvements to A92 between Glasgow and Fort-William. These are the things that come to mind for me that will go a long way to improving life in the highlands. Long overdue are the various road improvements. I'm sure there are other things going on in smaller scale but these are major investments.

  4. Gregory Tade played against Astra this season - he got 2 goals! They're no great shakes! But, as much as it pains me, it's to our advantage for Celtic to do as well as possible! I know you know that, but I agree, it's sometimes difficult to stop the heart over-riding the head!

  5. At the end of the day, it falls to the Season Ticket holders. If they allow the offer to be abused, then it could well come back to bite them in the butt as the easiest place to recoup the lost income is to stick it on the price of the Season Tickets somewhere down the road. A simple case of cause and effect.

  6. I think the point DC is making is that some/many of the people who will be getting in for a fiver would, without the promo, have been going to the game anyway and paying full price. So whilst the crowd should go up a bit as a result of the offer, overall takings might actually be lower. For the offer to pay for itself and generate the same gate receipts, you roughly need 75% of the uptake to be people who wouldn't otherwise be going to the game (ie 3 new people paying £5 each is what you need to offset 1 regular attendee getting in for £15 less than usual).

  7. Technically speaking, holding a season ticket, also 'does the club out of revenue'! It irritates the heck out of me that season ticket holders seem to adopt a moral high-ground. as if having one demonstrates some sort of 'extra' affiliation to the club! I pay full fare when I go, and over a season it translates to more than season ticket holders pay. More fool me, obviously - but I do it because I love the club. It's reminiscent of disgruntled customers approaching me, in my former work, with an opening salvo of "I'm a shareholder here so..." or in my current employment with " I pay your wages, so..." Being a season-ticket holder doesn't make you special, and insulting those who aren't as "fans" is just daft - every body we can get inside the stadium helps! Our recent return of a five-figure sum as profit could easily be six-figures. We lost 500 fans per game last season x 19 = 9,500 spectators. Multiply that by just £20 each = £190,000!! It's significant! I really take issue, DALNEIGHCALEY, at your suggestion that this could lose us money! Nobody going is suddenly now not going to bother! - it's all extra money in the till - albeit a small amount - and maybe a few extra fans! I think it's a good initiative by ICT, even if it sticks in the craw of some season ticket holders!

  8. I know of a few non season ticket holding "fans" who are going to the game with a season ticket holder thus doing the club out of revenue , it makes my blood boil that a great initiative such as this could end up losing us money !

  9. Having three options on the ballot paper with the option getting the most votes being implemented would have been a dreadful betrayal of the democratic process. It might have resulted in independence with less that 40% of those voting wanting independence and the rest voting for one of the two unionist options. It was never a serious option - it was just the SNP playing politics and showing contempt for the people. As you point out, some form of Devo-Max seemed to be the preferred option of the electorate so why did the SNP not acknowledge that and seek to negotiate further devolved powers to put to the Scottish people? By insisting that the referendum be about independence rather than an extension of devolved powers it is, in fact, the SNP that have shown contempt for the Scottish people. This contempt was made worse by the fact that we were not given the opportunity to vote on any negotiated separation terms. You may argue (as you have in the past) that the Westminster Government was not prepared to negotiate ahead of the referendum but then there is no good reason why they should negotiate on something that they have evidence the Scottish people don't want. Now, if the Scottish Government had asked the electorate whether we, the electorate, would mandate the Scottish Government to negotiate terms of independence to put to the people in a referendum, then I might have voted "Yes", and if the Scottish Government received the mandate to negotiate, it would have been very difficult for the Westminster Government to refuse. We could then have had a referendum in which we actually knew what we are voting for! And their contempt for the electorate continues. This desperate push to hold the Unionist parties "to account" over their absurd vow is utterly pathetic. Most would agree that some increased level of devolution is appropriate - so what's the rush? Let's have some mature discussion, take our time and get it right. The push to rush things is further political posturing and point scoring and is not in the interests of the Scottish people.

As for the AV referendum... it was 68-32 against for goodness sake. It wasn't even close! The more this post- referendum nationalist bellyaching keeps going, the more the nationalist tone reminds me of Germany after the First World War! And, of course, every time anyone loses, they stop trying to win next chance they have, Charles? That, of course, will be why the Labour Party disbanded after the 2010 election! That will, of course, be why the LibDems have decided that it is pointless continuing, in their pre-manifesto, to include another promise to try for PR! That, of course, will be why the Tories in Scotland gave up standing for GE seats in Scotland, once they lost their last MP here in 1997. And that will be of course, why we will never get another bite at the EU in/out cherry at any time ever again! Funnily enough, my perception is that the cynical contempt for the Scottish people throughout all this has come from Westminster (and proudScotsbut like yourself.). What else was it but cynical contempt for Scottish opinion from Cameron, when the option of Devo-Max, which had by far the biggest backing in polls before the Edinburgh Agreement, was not allowed to be included...that would be because he was convinced that, over the centuries,we had been adequately trained into unthinking forelock tugging in the face of our betters, and would vote for blind acceptance of the status quo....but to ensure it, he put the party with most to lose, and which hated the SNP to the level of rank paranoia, in charge of the NO campaign....hence the use of the same tactics as were used by NuLabour in the 2011 Scottish election..Project Fear, Smear, Personalise, Denigrate and Lie. If you believe polls, we nearly did it, despite starting from a pretty low base, and, all without anything more than social media, people on the ground (and the Sunday Herald, late in the game). If it hadn't been for the last minute "VOW" (which blew the Edinburgh Agreement into smithereens), we may well have succeeded, if the 25% who voted NO on the strength of it, was correct. If we had been competing on a level playing field and NO had won fair and square by having the best arguments.....then maybe we'd go away for a while, but as it is...why wouldn't you expect us to be arguing for what we were promised in the "VOW". That isn't cynical contempt for the Scottish people by creating as many difficulties as possible over further devolved powers.......that is expecting Westminster not to show their cynical contempt for the Scottish people by not giving us what was promised at the last minutes.....which was, as near as dammit, "Home Rule", Federalism or Devo-Max...or do you really expect us to sit back, having lost, and simply accept the crumbs they offered us earlier which was devo-nothing-worth-having from each of them. Dream on, Charles!

  14. yes Charles, once again we must bow to your superior intellect. Please share some of your wisdom and tell us what other political parties have done for you and me that the SNP haven't. I'll help you along here. Tories - sent our soldiers to their deaths in wars we didn't need to be involved in. Labour - destroyed our heavy industry and left many destitute. Lib-Dems - dont think they've ever done anything. SNP - well they should be shot. After all they've had the audacity to run our country better than any other party before them. And I include the disasterous years when it was Secretary of State who had the control.

    • Inverness CT 0-1 Raith Rovers - Report
Inverness threatened the Raith goal and but for Kevin Dabrowski and his bar they could have been dead and buried at the interval. No score at the break and all to play for in the second half. Vaughan opened the scoring early in the second half and Samuel almost levelled but his shot from distance cannoned away off the post. The crossbar was hit a further twice but the goal would not come. Despite peppering the Raith goal, MotM Dabrowski would not be beaten with a string of saves ranging from brilliant to miraculous.

    • Inverness CT -V- Raith Rovers - Preview
The great escape coninues on Friday night at the Caledonian Stadium as we host Raith Rovers in a game that will also be screened live on BBC Scotland with Raith trying to cling on to the coat tails of Dundee United and the Caley Jags looking to slither away from the play-off zone. What could possibly go wrong? Savage and Carragher will be joined in the squad by a welcome returnee in Sean McAllister who has returned fit from Everton after about six weeks out. That's a nice wee bonus for Big Dunc. However, he has the wrath from Arbroath after his "tools down" comment in his pre-match interview. As long as he has not got the wrath from Raith. Keep the faith!

    • Queens Park 0-1 Inverness CT - Report
Massive: Just under 1500 fans rattled around inside the national stadium for the proverbial six-pointer at the bottom of the table with Inverness looking to get out of the play-off place and Queens one point ahead at the start of the game. In a tense first half Cammy Harper scored a stunning free kick after Cillian Sheridan had handled 25 yards out. Boom! That's how it ended despite QP upping their game in the second period as Inverness kept them at bay.

Hampden Calling: Carragher is now a doubt after feeling his hamstring. Other than that not much has changed apart from Remi Savage, who has not recovered after he got a boot in the face from Cammy Kerr. Apparently Kerr's boot is OK but Savage is suffering from minor concussion and will miss the next couple of games. Maybe that was Kerr ensuring he gets a game this weekend.

    • Inverness CT 2-1 Arbroath - Report
Smokies Kippered: On a blustery day more akin to AA Milne and Winnie the Pooh, Arbroath and Inverness battled it out to see who would get the final nails hammered into their coffins. Arbroath were in the last chance snug in the last chance saloon, whilst Inverness have one foot in the grave. I don't believe it! Arbroath tried everything, they even took their own wind with them. However, they had Murray, Bird and Slater on from the start but O'Brien missed out. Zak Delaney also started for the Red Lichties. A bright opening spell saw Alex Samuel denied twice inside five minutes. Once by a combination of Max Boruc and his crossbar, the second by Boruc on his own as Samuel got his shot away from inside the box. Wallace Duffy got the goal we deserved on the interval as he drove across the keeper from the right side of the box to put us in ahead at the break. Leighton McIntosh restored parity on the hour as he drilled home from eighteen yards, but Alex Samuel won the points with a late strike to all but relegate ten man Arbroath who had Ricky Little sent off.
