  1. Looked at in isolation tonight was the proverbial mugging. Inverness dominated the game for long spells, created more chances, hit the woodwork twice etc. Motherwell scored 2 slightly fortuitous goals (certainly weather assisted!) and ran down the clock. The trouble is, this isn't a one off. It's the story of our season. Average teams don't even need to play well to beat us. Our system isn't working and alarmingly, the manager doesn't seem to have a plan B (save throwing on a bunch of attacking substitutes in the dying minutes). I think to be fair, even Forans most ardent critics would have to admit his team has been extremely unlucky with results so far this season. Tonight being yet another frustrating example. But sometimes you need to make your own luck. I wouldn't go as far as the doom mongers and say we're going down. Man for man I would say we have one of the best squads in the league, certainly the best in the bottom 6. Recruitment is one area where Foran has done pretty well IMO. Those calling for a 'clearout' in January are well off the mark. Personnel isn't the root of our current predicament. The problem, as far as I can see, is that our current system isn't getting the best out of our players. First off, too many are playing out of position. Draper, our best defensive midfielder, has been deployed further up the park. Polworth has been shunted out to the right. Boden (who scored 13 goals in League 2 last season) has been deployed as a lone striker on the rare occasion he's even been on the pitch. Doumbouya, a good target man, has become the central focus of our attack of late mainly in the form of long balls from midfield - but what good is this tactic when he doesn't have a strike partner to knock the ball down to? Our strongest department is on the wing - we have King, Mulraney, Doran, Cole and Sutherland. But for some reason we don't play a system with wingers! We play these guys in a narrow front 3 behind a lone striker. A state of affairs even more puzzling when you consider our current in-favour forwards (Doumbouya and Fisher) main strength is their ability in the air. Why not make the pitch big, use our wingers in their strongest position, and put crosses into the box for our front men to attack? I'm no expert, and probably at least 50% of my opinions are rubbish - but for feck sake, it's time to try something different!

  2. hi all first post after creating a account. Belfast based supporter (if the name didn't give it away) that has supported ICT for a good few years now and travel over as much as i can to see games. Been over twice so far this season to the 3-2 defeat at home to county at the start of the league and the 2-1 defeat away to Dundee. The team that played lovely passing football from seasons gone by is long gone replaced by a huff and puff hoof ball team. Heart breaking to see and after today's result i think its time to worry. Whats the point in picking up your game and getting draws against Celtic, hearts and Aberdeen if we can't beat the teams down and around us? I am back over for the Elgin game and i have genuine fear for the result now. Pitty my first post has to be at such a negative time but i was wanting to join the forum for a while. Doesn't matter to me if we are away to Celtic or home to Stirling Albion. I'll still be over as much as i can

  3. The challenge now is to buck that trend. with the squad spirit we have I am absolutely convinced we can do it. It will help immensely if we as fans don't become too restless or unsupportive and continue to get behind the team. the performances of late have been encouraging we just need the goals to start flowing and a bit of confidence to return.

  4. So Vigurs is the scapegoat for a really poor performance. Not Fon Williams for being caught out yet again or the defence for being collectively pish and letting macdonald run rings around them for the second or Foran for continually resorting to having no other tactic than trying to hit the long ball,. It's Vigurs fault he got chosen as MOM so let's boo him anyway. Shameful .

  5. I was disappointed with the result last night as much as anyone else that was there, it is a bit childish following the team when we won the Scottish Cup, travelling to Europe and not going to the local derby on Saturday because we lost last night! Have a rethink you will still get a ticket.

  6. Surely they were booing the decision, not the player.

  7. ICT won the cup and ended near top of the league with most of the present players, therefore the poor play and results must be laid at the feet or head of the manager and coaching staff. Foran stated the performances are "good but not good enough". Should we now be asking the same question about him?

  8. Don't really know where to begin with that performance tonight. Seems to be a pretty predictable pattern of ICT 'dominating possession but not getting the breaks'. We certainly seemed to have more of the ball compared to Well but again offered very little in an attacking sense I think it'd be hard to justifiably claim we should have won the game. Best chance of the first half for ICT fell to Vigurs who saw a header from a Mackay cross hit the post whilst Well nearly went ahead when Ainsworth hit the post (I think) with an effort which had Fon Williams looking lost. Perhaps the main talking point of the first half came when Cole lunged into a challenge on a Well player which led to a brief stramash between all the players. Cole looked like he might have gotten away with one as he was just given a yellow card. At the start of the second half Polworth played in Doumbouya and he shot / crossed the ball to the back post where Cole was just too far behind it to slide in to score. Not long after this Well nabbed the opener. Clay found himself at the right edge of the ICT box and sent the ball flying into the net from about 25 yards. From where I was I thought it either caught the fierce wind or took a deflection which left Fon Williams with no chance to save it but others have save that he (FW) didn't really cover himself in glory with his positioning. Maybe the Well highlights will clear things up but either way it was a strike that certainly looked good and came out of nothing. Vigurs and Doran then forced Samson into a couple of flying saves curling efforts in from the left and right of the box both turned round the post. A corner from Vigurs which also caught the wind nearly snuck in under the bar but agains Samson was alert to tip the ball over and the subsequent corner saw the ball end up at the feet of Doran and he cracked the ball off the bar with a shot and then, with Samson stranded, Draper followed up to head the ball into the net but he seemed to be bundled over by a Well player. No penalty given there nor a few minutes later when Draper gain went to ground under a challenge from another Well man but this claim looked piss weak by comparison. As ICT continued to huff and puff in the search for an equaliser the more Well looked likely to grab a killer second goal on the counter attack and that's exactly what happened. After an ICT attack broke down Moult skipped down the ICT right and crossed for McDonald who tucked the ball past Fon Williams who refused to move off his line to claim the crossed ball, something he's previously looked suspect on, and secured the three points for the away side despite the late goal from Tansey who poked the ball in from about 6 inches out. Vigurs was announced as Sponsors Man of the Match which drew boos from the home fans and rightly so but he wasn't the only sub par performer. There are a number of our bigger players not really up to standard at the minute. Tansey is an obvious one here. I can count on one hand the number of good games he has had in 2016 but the problem is who would we replace him with? Of course we can't keep playing players who simply aren't doing it for us but with limited options it's hard to see what we can do. A key theme of our games over the last few weeks have been our apparent inability to turn possession/chances into goals. All too often our attacks fizzled out with a slack pass, a blocked cross or a wayward shot from a desperate last ditch effort because nothing else was on. Foran seems to have one game plan - lump it high and long towards Doumbouya / Fisher and hope someone collects the knock down. This just doesn't work with Vigurs because he simply doesn't work hard enough to get up to support the target man and collect any balls that are knocked down to him. Doumbouya, during the time he was on, struggled to really win anything in the air and although Fisher had a bit more luck he again was somewhat isolated. There seems to be little in the way of support from one of Tansey or Draper getting forward with both sitting pretty deep and letting the front four try and create a chance. In the wide areas Polworth is just lost played as a right midfielder. We looked a bit more threatening when Doran came on and he forced Samson into a couple of decent saves one and also hit the bar with another shot. If we are going to play with big lumps up front perhaps it might be an idea to play the likes of Doran on the wing, instead of a central midfielder like Polworth, and they can try and get some crosses in for Fisher or Doumbouya to attack? Our last good performance at home came against Dundee were Vigurs was dropped and Polworth played behind the striker. Something maybe to try against County with Doran and possibly Cole on the left and right? Cracking Well support in attendance tonight given the time of year, evening KO and aforementioned costs. ETA: Having seen the brief highlights it doesn't look like a deflection on the Clay shot. Just kind of catches the wind and seems to go into the net in slow motion. Probably not much Fon Williams could really do. Not convinced the first shout by Draper was a penalty but I still think Fon Williams should have come for the Moult cross.

  9. We have to try something different one up is causing teams no problems at all. Why the reluctance to use Boden we have to try anything we can to get out of this rut

  10. I just can't agree that it's time to panic! Look at the bigger picture-we're a win away from 'safety' and still only 5 points from the top six. We need to rally behind the boys, not get on their back's and talk of Richie being sacked is just ridiculous! "I'm not going on Saturday because we lost" hmmm...fair-weather fan much....

  12. I agree. Whether you thought vigurs was MOM or not why would you boo him. It wasn't his decision

  13. Seconded. to say I was disappointed at the behaviour of the fans last night is an understatement. The players need our support, not for us to be getting on their backs for every little mistake!

  15. A bit harsh blaming Donald Park for our current predicament IMO.

  16. Getting relegated to the Championship would be absolutely one of the worst things that could happen to the club. I've seen a few people on Twitter say this tonight after the result and I cannot fathom why relegation would be a good thing.

  18. What a joke we have become, if we can't beat Motherwell at home what chance have we got. I've lost hope now. I watched us play Rangers the other day and to me it seemed the players didn't really have a clue what they were doing. Our terrible run can no longer be put down to bad luck, we're just not good enough.

  19. The only thing that performance did for me was help me make my mind up not to go and purchase a ticket for the game in Dingwall on Saturday. I hope they prove me wrong but no way do I want to witness a thrashing from our local rivals. I'd rather spend a less stressful afternoon doing something else.

    • Inverness CT 0-1 Raith Rovers - Report
Inverness threatened the Raith goal and but for Kevin Dabrowski and his bar they could have been dead and buried at the interval. No score at the break and all to play for in the second half. Vaughan opened the scoring early in the second half and Samuel almost levelled but his shot from distance cannoned away off the post. The crossbar was hit a further twice but the goal would not come. Despite peppering the Raith goal, MotM Dabrowski would not be beaten with a string of saves ranging from brilliant to miraculous.

The great escape coninues on Friday night at the Caledonian Stadium as we host Raith Rovers in a game that will also be screened live on BBC Scotland with Raith trying to cling on to the coat tails of Dundee United and the Caley Jags looking to slither away from the play-off zone. What could possibly go wrong? Savage and Carragher will be joined in the squad by a welcome returnee in Sean McAllister who has returned fit from Everton after about six weeks out. That's a nice wee bonus for Big Dunc. However, he has the wrath from Arbroath after his "tools down" comment in his pre-match interview. As long as he has not got the wrath from Raith. Keep the faith!

    • Queens Park 0-1 Inverness CT - Report
Massive: Just under 1500 fans rattled around inside the national stadium for the proverbial six-pointer at the bottom of the table with Inverness looking to get out of the play-off place and Queens one point ahead at the start of the game. In a tense first half Cammy Harper scored a stunning free kick after Cillian Sheridan had handled 25 yards out. Boom! That's how it ended despite QP upping their game in the second period as Inverness kept them at bay.

Hampden Calling: Carragher is now a doubt after feeling his hamstring. Other than that not much has changed apart from Remi Savage, who has not recovered after he got a boot in the face from Cammy Kerr. Apparently Kerr's boot is OK but Savage is suffering from minor concussion and will miss the next couple of games. Maybe that was Kerr ensuring he gets a game this weekend.

    • Inverness CT 2-1 Arbroath - Report
Smokies Kippered: On a blustery day more akin to AA Milne and Winnie the Pooh, Arbroath and Inverness battled it out to see who would get the final nails hammered into their coffins. Arbroath were in the last chance snug in the last chance saloon, whilst Inverness have one foot in the grave. I don't believe it! Arbroath tried everything, they even took their own wind with them. However, they had Murray, Bird and Slater on from the start but O'Brien missed out. Zak Delaney also started for the Red Lichties. A bright opening spell saw Alex Samuel denied twice inside five minutes. Once by a combination of Max Boruc and his crossbar, the second by Boruc on his own as Samuel got his shot away from inside the box. Wallace Duffy got the goal we deserved on the interval as he drove across the keeper from the right side of the box to put us in ahead at the break. Leighton McIntosh restored parity on the hour as he drilled home from eighteen yards, but Alex Samuel won the points with a late strike to all but relegate ten man Arbroath who had Ricky Little sent off.
