  2. No one should abuse any other poster , But to ban discussion is to be not the right policy although I can why it is considered so To put my serious head on, which I do infrequently because it reminds me of my former life, when I had to be ultra serious and not to make mistakes because it could have serious consequences, Thirty years and one day I was a firefighter in Lancashire, I went through the ranks to a moderately high level when I had to be in charge of many men ( no women in those days ), I have seen sights in fires and road accidents, I don't care to remember and in writing this I will not sleep tonight. ( Because it is all coming back) I have seen families distraught in losing their loved ones , husbands , babies, - Putting on a brave face when I had to interview them, to get the facts of the case, usually for me to give evidence at the inquest into the death . So I get a little frustrated or more than that when I see subscribers on this forum, who have never had to meet serious danger head on , decrying service personal that have put their lives on the line in foreign places when told to do by their superiors officers. How can a person who has never had more danger than sucking the lead in their pencils know what it is like to face an enemy determined to kill you, or in my case burn me to a cinder. So when the ICT club or anyone else wishes to pay tribute to those of us that protect our life style , we should be there with them one hundred percent. These people may not show it but fear is the is there every minute of the day , not just fear for themselves but fear they may put their colleagues in danger. On a personal note a close relation of mine went in on D day two hours before the main landings as part of the South Wales borderers as a CSM with the Canadians , Many of whom their main language was French, You can imagine how they felt landing to free the country that was part of their heritage,. Those Canadians landed with 5000 men and lost 5000 men in two days of fighting. The 5000 were replaced as they moved down through Normandy. A little boy saw the troops and ran into his farmhouse " mummy French soldiers outside ", "They are speaking French mummy". No amount of gibes can diminish the efforts of these soldiers , of what ever nationality, and I include German soldiers in that they had little choice in many instances., There is a high price to maintain the peace in the world. Good night and sleep tight, you owe your nights rest to the emergency services, and to the military, never forget it

  3. In hindsight, we would have been better off letting him speak to United when he was at his peak. That would have been a better financial deal all round and we probably would not be in this mess now. I love a good hindsight

  4. Want to say a Hugh Thank you to Lady F. She has very kindly just called me and told me she has a programme for me and she is sending it free of charge. I am blown away with her kindness. She is a true fan and a special lady. Wish there was more people in the world like this. I promised I would donate money to charity on her behalf and post the receipt on this forum. Thank you again.

  5. Not sure what the reasoning is, and quite frankly, not interested, but the level of abusive posting has reached a point where its becoming a really big problem. Not going to bother writing a big tome on the subject now ... its been done before, and I have linked below this to the last couple of topics from 2012 and 2009 that seem relevant. I know one or two will read it and others may just say "**** off !" ... so be it. Bottom line is that the personal abuse of other posters stops now or the ban hammer comes out. That's not a threat, its a promise. You want to abuse someone? then do it somewhere else, we don't want you. This is not what this website is for. We do not invest in software and hosting to give someone the opportunity to hide behind a keyboard and bully, abuse or defame others. We do it so fans can discuss and debate all things ICT (and beyond), to give fans a place where they can congratulate and criticise the club in equal measure, ask questions, seek opinions, and where supporters of the club of any age can spend some time enjoyably without being the subject of personal attacks. Right now, the personal abuse and vitriol from many directions makes it far from enjoyable.

  7. I think its probably a 2 horse race between Yogi & Jim McIntyre however it is harsh on Mackinnon, last year he narrowly missed out on winning the play-off with Hibs having the biggest budget and winning the league. This season they are still in contention and its highly likely that youngsters from both St Mirren & Dunfermline may move in Jan as there is plenty positive hype around them - making the competition weaker. Regardless of who is in charge all 3 are more than capable of getting DUtd to the title.

  8. That was a great game to be at . Was at hospitality so surrounded by weeping Arabs! Such joy. We played them off the park aand were better in every department. The only thing that slightly worried me was that we took the foot right off the gas and basically treated the second half as a training game. Confident ,stylish and exciting football/. If we d have won by six they couldnt have complained. Especially delighted for Coll Donaldson. Coming back to Tannadump after the **** time he had there. Must have been a great boost for the lad. Didnt put a foot wrong. Onwards and upwards !

  9. Yogi has a decent track record of succeeding in the short to medium term if the team he inherits is stable and already successful. He has a track record of failure if the squad he inherits is already under achieving. He has never successfully turned round a failing team. Right at the moment, Dundee United are failing in relation to having, by a margin, the highest budget in the Championship so, if he gets the position, which by the way is not even vacant yet, I can’t see it going well for the Arabs especially if they are misguided enough to give him funds to rebuild in January.

  10. Yogi's track record in the management seat isn't that brilliant I don't think. Yes he was in charge when we won the cup but I don't think that was the team he built. It started to go pair shaped after players left and he tried to rebuild - and failed.

  11. Yogi is usually pretty good in his first season with any team ... its season two and beyond where things seem to go pear shaped. A lot of things went sour at the end and we can and have debated that many times over, but in years to come, history will show he was with us when we first won the cup and that's all that will be remembered. so good luck to him ... except when he comes up against ICT !

  12. A typically rude and condescending response. I thought one of the main arguments for national service was to teach respect. Obviously with you they failed miserably.

  13. Ah yes, let's teach more young men and women how to kill and then send them off to be canon fodder in more pointless wars.

  14. Good point - personally, as myself & others have said, I'd be more than happy to see Raves get a contract extension to the end of the season, but suspect this won't happen. If he feels like moving south for family reasons after being treated with contempt by 2 managers now, who would blame him! Maybe his legs are going a bit now, but he is still easily good enough for the Championship at least. Raves will always be remembered up here, for me, he's up there with ledgendary ICT defenders like Munro, Tokeley, Dods, Golabek, etc....I will never forget that winning goal against Celtic at Hampden - one of my best ever ICT memories! Hope to see him up for the anniversary celebrations of our Scottish Cup win, which he contributed so much to (sure he will bring his guitar as well....)!

  15. Takes a bit of time doesn't it, new gaffer, loads of new players, who is any good, who works well with whom, who will settle in? Definitely some green shoots there, and that 2nd goal is a thing of beauty...If Man City had scored that it would be on SkySports all weekend, the ball was moved so quickly it caught all of Dundee's team out. Looked like a great away crowd btw! As an aside loving the new shop and the work of the Stadium Development Project, feels like the club is going in the right direction

  16. The two most vilified players in the team? I bet they're counting down the days!

  17. All 4 combined brilliantly to produce a wonderful team goal. But what I like most about the goal is the way the guys seemed to focus their congratulations on Mulraney. He's taken a bit of stick for having no end product but he got the assist for this and I think that is maybe his first. For his team mates to react as they did will be really important in helping Jake utilise his undoubted skills as part of a team. That might be the best goal we score all season, but if it marks the transition of Mulraney into a team player, it might also be the most important.

  18. It's not a national event - Armed Forces Day is in June. I think Renegade and Kingsmills are correct to broaden the topic to raise concerns about US style jingoism. The feting of military personnel is dangerous. It's used by governments to stir up nationalist fervour and provide public support support for imperialist foreign interventions. To those who say they'd be happy to support a similar day for nurses or teachers or whatever - you're not being asked to. Only armed forces. Why?

  21. Typical responses from the ignorant. National service was there for the defence of the Country. I don't think you have the slightest bit of experience of such or you wouldn't be putting a slur on this. Pity you weren't involved it would probably have given you a better insight to life and made you a much better person. Or then again in some cases maybe not !

  22. this thread has been taken so far off topic and has become so abusive between posters that I am shutting it down. If posters want to discuss the american military, jingoism, national service or anything else that is barely relevant to the topic of ICT having a forces appreciation day then start a thread in the relevant place.

    • Queens Park 0-1 Inverness CT - Report
Massive: Just under 1500 fans rattled around inside the national stadium for the proverbial six-pointer at the bottom of the table with Inverness looking to get out of the play-off place and Queens one point ahead at the start of the game. In a tense first half Cammy Harper scored a stunning free kick after Cillian Sheridan had handled 25 yards out. Boom! That's how it ended despite QP upping their game in the second period as Inverness kept them at bay.

Hampden Calling: Carragher is now a doubt after feeling his hamstring. Other than that not much has changed apart from Remi Savage, who has not recovered after he got a boot in the face from Cammy Kerr. Apparently Kerr's boot is OK but Savage is suffering from minor concussion and will miss the next couple of games. Maybe that was Kerr ensuring he gets a game this weekend.

    • Inverness CT 2-1 Arbroath - Report
Smokies Kippered: On a blustery day more akin to AA Milne and Winnie the Pooh, Arbroath and Inverness battled it out to see who would get the final nails hammered into their coffins. Arbroath were in the last chance snug in the last chance saloon, whilst Inverness have one foot in the grave. I don't believe it! Arbroath tried everything, they even took their own wind with them. However, they had Murray, Bird and Slater on from the start but O'Brien missed out. Zak Delaney also started for the Red Lichties. A bright opening spell saw Alex Samuel denied twice inside five minutes. Once by a combination of Max Boruc and his crossbar, the second by Boruc on his own as Samuel got his shot away from inside the box. Wallace Duffy got the goal we deserved on the interval as he drove across the keeper from the right side of the box to put us in ahead at the break. Leighton McIntosh restored parity on the hour as he drilled home from eighteen yards, but Alex Samuel won the points with a late strike to all but relegate ten man Arbroath who had Ricky Little sent off.

    • Inverness CT -V- Arbroath - Preview
It's Now or Never: That's what Elvis used to say. We are in deep trouble up to our necks with no signs that we can turn this around. Defeat to Arbroath could be the final nail in our coffin with only fifteen points available to us ahead of this game. The play-offs are looking more likely by the minute, but it's not beyond the realms of possibilty that automatic relegation is still an option should Arbroath beat us on Saturday. With the long suffering fans rapidly losing faith in Big Dunc, it's crunch time as Arbroath head North to the venue they won at the last time they were here. Sadly they come to the Caledonian Stadium off the back of a 2-1 midweek defeat to Airdrie, and we could all but relegate them on Saturday with a win. However, that's nothing to gloat about as we could be next...

    • Partick 1-0 Inverness CT - Report
Big Trouble Down the Dump: Billy Mckay was back in the starting XI along with Samson Lawal with Pepple dropping to the bench and Shaw out for the season. Both teams had seven on the bench with Roddy MacGregor getting a rare seat. Scott Robinson scored the only goal of the game just before the break. Inverness were reduced to ten men when Cammy Kerr was sent off just after an hour. Despite creating more opportunities, the points just evaded us.

      Meh!
