  5. The latest generation of royals are spun as having a social conscience. I would find that a great deal more convincing if they had invited the local registrar to marry them in private in front of a dozen or two of their friends and family with the millions upon millions that must have been spent on pomp, security and all the rest being, at their request, being earmarked and ring fenced to buy land and build decent social housing in terraces with gardens for all those displaced by the Grenfell tragedy. That truly would have been a worthwhile and lasting legacy that the couple and the nation could be proud of.

  7. In the late 60s and possibly early 70s, I used to go there for piano lessons - as did quite a few of my contemporaries. The nuns were all very friendly and happy people. La Sagesse (the Wisdom) is, I believe, a teaching order. One of my strongest memories of the place is that there was frequently the most glorious smell of bread or other baking permeating through the building. Someone really knew the art of temptation!

  8. True but if the league is as competitive as everyone hopes, then if we get off to a good start, hopefully this will lead to increased attendances negating some of the financial pressures. Not holding my breath on that though as it is quite likely Utd, County, Falkirk, Dunfermline and Partick will all have bigger attendances than us which is really sad. If Inverness truly wants a team at this or a higher level then they need to start showing support.

  12. Very true. Equally you can rise quickly too. Success requires a group of players to work well as a team in doing what the manager wants them to do. This requires good understandings between the players and trust in the manager. It also requires luck. Teams need to avoid significant disruption due to injuries and they need the rub of the green on match days from time to time. Success is so often built on confidence and that can evaporate after a couple of unlucky defeats. When the confidence goes then there is a risk that relationships break down and it can be difficult to mend bridges when that happens. On the management front one can look at County and say that Coyle was a poor appointment. But he has a decent track record and it would be reasonable to have expected him to do well. County had a solid enough start with Coyle but then lost games they should have won in December and any confidence and belief in the manager evaporated. Had they got lucky in a couple of those games and had a couple of good wins, this would have swung things the other way and County could have been challenging for top six. If you look at their squad you would say they should never have been relegated. It really is a bit of a lottery and that means there is always hope for the un-fancied and less well resourced teams - like us! It's going to be a very tough division next season and if we are going to do well it will be important to keep the togetherness going. It could make all the difference.

  14. An excellent point made by @hislopsoffsideagain on Twitter - 2014/15 - Dundee Utd finish 5th with 56 points. 2015/16 - Dundee Utd relegated with 31 points. 2014/15 - ICT finish 3rd with 65 points. 2016/17 - ICT relegated with 34 points. 2015/16 - Ross County finish 6th with 48 points. 2017/18 Ross County relegated with 29 points. 2016/17 - Partick Thistle finish 6th with 42 points. 2017/18 Partick Thistle relegated with 33 points. Four teams relegated in the last four seasons, all of whom were in the top six a year or two previously. Two of those sides, us and County, won trophies in the two years before. Dundee Utd reached the league cup final the season before they were relegated, and the Scottish cup final the year before that. Scottish teams are on a knife edge - lose even one or two good players or make a poor managerial appointment and you can drop like a stone very quickly.

  15. Is this the 1st time since the playoffs that 4 new teams have entered the championship through relegation/promotion. That's nearly half the league replaced and should really freshen things up. Here's hoping for a much much better start this year and put ourselves in a strong position before Xmas.

  17. On the other hand, they will both have to undergo the upheaval and shock of adjusting to their reduced status. Hopefully, they will both deal with it as badly as we did whereas we are now familiar with the challenges of this division and in the last dozen games or began to get to grips with it and are in a position now to carry that into next season.

  18. dont think there's any need as those responsible for making the naff changes to our badge no longer have any meaningful position in the club.

  20. Whilst I largely agree, in my view both the exclusion of an Inverness team from the Scottish League and Wick from the Highland League were equally parochial and equally wrong. I appreciate that the geographical difficulties were substially greater then but, in each case, the aspiring team were only asking the existing members to make the journey once a seaon on league business whilst they were prepared to do so every second week. However, both wrongs were thankfully righted well over twenty years ago and what I do entirely agree with is the absurdly obsessed fixation with events that are almost half a century old and where the wrong obsessed about was put right a quarter of a century ago is pathetic.

  21. My 6 year old grandson lives in Nairn and is already excited about this, as he was at the Brechin Betfred Cup game last pre season and loved it. He can't go to Saturday games in school terms due to sports commitments so this is ideal to keep him interested in Caley Thistle.

  22. Don/Laura/Whoever - as noted there are a growing number of threads ... Would it be prudent to add a CJT subforum or perhaps even a 'clubs' page which can have its own separate sub-site entirely (see here). This would keep things tidy and may have other benefits down the line with making forms or other documents available. The offer is there, if its of interest then we can work it into the summer upgrade plans.

  23. Yes indeed, seems both strips are changing. Not a huge fan of that, feels needless. Much prefer changing the home one year then away the next (unless of course you have to with a manufacturer change). Feels a wee bit like trying to milk the fans imo. Please let's stick with some form of stripes for the home kit.

  25. Our winning the Scottish Cup was the culmination of a *5 year schedule of building, which could never be sustained; a club with our resources simply doesn't have the means to allow it to do so. The fact that we managed to pull off a 5 year plan in the manner we did required a great deal of personal sacrifice by those off the park as well as those on it....and a large slice of good fortune. Our board need to get their had out of their arse and realise that our greatest periods of success have come from investing in people....not just financially and not just on the park. As I told them when I decided I could no longer be a part of the dismantling of everything good at the club (changes were needed, but the foundations were actually pretty solid)..... Respect is Earned, Honesty is Appreciated, Trust is Gained and Loyalty is Returned .....that has been the recipe for success at ICTFC from day one and it has been almost entirely stripped from the club in the last 12 months. *It could be argued that it was a 6 year schedule as the commitment from the board to back the fan's financial support with a £1 Million investment kick started the return to the premiership...the first piece of the jigsaw.

  28. No advanced kit reveal for Season Ticket holders, then? It's those little things that, in my experience, make ST holders feel valued. After failing to honour the exclusive player meet and greet (and other things) last season, I thought they would have been careful of stripping out even more of the stuff that shows appreciation for those parting with their hard earned up front. It's seems like they've stopped even pretending that they care!

    • Dundee United 1-1 Inverness CT - Report
Hopes amongst the Caley Jags support were at rock bottom ahead of this one with the threat of relegation looming large. With all hands to the pumps, Shaw, Boyes and Ujdur were brought back into the squad whilst not really 100% fit. Shaw started as did Pepple and Boyes with Billy Mckay, Lawal and Danny Devine dropping to the bench. Cammy Harper was given the Captain's armband today. It's a daunting task going to the lions den to face title favourites but underdog is our preferred tag. Anyway, 252 of them turned up at Tannadice in eternal hope and Duffy heightened the intensity only for Louis Moult to level things up. That's how it ended, a result we would have bitten your hand off before kick off.

    • Inverness CT 1-2 Ayr United - Report
Having sat through one of the worst games for many a year there is little to hope for now apart from Arbroath to keep losing because we certainly appear to find it difficult to win. We have no game changers in our squad and our manager is playing the wrong type of anti-football to help our cause. Big Dunc thought we were the better team. Pleeeeeaaase, give me a break! We were second to everything and Ayr were always one step ahead of us after the first three minutes. SHOCKER springs to mind.

    • Inverness CT 0-0 Airdrieonians - Report
These two sides looked as though they could play for the whole of March without scoring. In terms of opportunities, the hosts probably shaded it, but when we did miss the first defender, crosses invariably went behind the incoming strikers. On the one occasion we got on the end of the ball Billy Mckay's flicked header was cleared away from goal by Kanayo Megwa.
Not the worst 0-0 draw ever, but scoring opportunities were at a premium. Neither keeper was overly troubled and this game had scoreless written all over it given the evidence of the first twenty minutes.

    • Inverness CT -V- Airdrieonians - Preview
Promoted Airdrie are sitting in fifth place in the table, just below the play-off places with former Caley Jag Nikolay Todorov getting amongst the goals and he will provide a big test for our central defence. We have found Airdrie a difficult proposition at times this season but we did win the last home encounter against them.

    • Morton 0-2 Inverness CT - Report
What a start for Inverness and Billy Mckay, who answered his abusers from last week by opening the scoring in the second minute, firing into the top corner after an assist from Cammy Harper. Robbie Muirhead looked to respond but Mark Ridgers was equal to his effort in the fifth minute. Ten minutes before the interval Sean McAllister curled in a low free kick from the edge of the box to double our advantage and open his scoring account at Inverness. Plenty of bookings but no further scoring saw Inverness pick up a vital three points in the relegation battle although we still remain in ninth spot but only two points from Dunfermline in fifth.
