Those who decry Gretna's rise forget the trials and tribulations of ICT. A cheer for a minnow who made it regardless of who paid the bill. What the **** are all these leagues for anyway unless there is a golden rainbow at the end of it for someone with the vision and courage to dream amd try and try and try. And in the process Miles nearly died--remember that. He was so sick at the last game of the season prior to their triumphant entry into the SPL that he could hardly drag one foot after the other and looked at death's door. Amazing how United fortunes have taken such an upward turn. Their confidence must now be sky-high. Hopefully ICT's fortunes will rise in tandem with Dundee United as their own confidence grows from this point onwards. Why not? Gretna looks a demoraliseds outfit --Davie Irons will need to have some really good irons in the fire to pull out to make a difference otherwise his problems will not be ironed out effectively. :bomb: Isnt it also eerie how Gretna's progress in the lower divisions mirrored that of ICT even to the promotion -decider being the last game of the season" But at that point their progress seems to be different having ...well..er...slowed up apace.

Two excellent posts Scotty. I particularly liked item number 7 in the first post. Like an arrow going through the centre of the bull. Scotty is right, it's the excitement, fun and atmosphere that counts and you have a hard time achieving that with a half empty, dead quiet stadium. Although sometimes it gets a bit wearing here in North America, all the razz-ma-taz and promotional gimmicks do work and they also do let the fans know that the team needs their money and support and Management is at least trying to get them in the door. Reducing prices should be a priority, if at all possible. 8,000 fans at , say, 15 pounds each is much better all round than 5,000 at 20 pounds each. Who would not rather be in amongst a big crowd than a small one sharing the anticipation and excitement. And even if you do lose at least you feel that you have had a good time and it hasn't cost you an arm and a leg. As Scotty says, the bottom line is a sense of appreciation from Management and a sens eof having received value for money.

Reading between the lines we seem to have never recovered from the loss of Dodds, for a variety of reasons....and....we are just not getting the breaks. CMIB To be truthful I did not remember that the two, Pete and Bobby, played on the same line. Toothless Bobby sweated profusely whilst Peter always seemed to dance along on his toes. You are probably right about the positioning ; there you go. As for Belle in Duncan on Vancouver Island you may be interested to learn that the island is huge-I once travelled it by car on a two-week holiday with my son and topped a rise in the road to see trees which seemed to go on forever into the horizon which was quite a view--logging was very strong there at one time but many logging operations have closed over the years. Mills too of course with thousands losing their livelihood.

The stalwart Bobby Bolt in the centre half position came to Caley as his Ranger's days started to ebb away. Must have settled in Inverness because his son Bobby also played for Caley.Jim Smith also played in goal for a short while at that time--he's now in Canada;his sister Mary is my sister's best friend since they were 5 years old. That was the Ginger Mackenzie and Peter MacKinnon era. Pete was a great centre half, muscled to the max but as nimble-footed a player as you will ever see. I heard he is resting in a home on Fairfield Road these days--beautiful kind man,I will never forget him. Oh well, moving right along..
