  1. Gareth' Hi there from Canada. I am now a Canadian citizen named Roderick but when I note the mention of the Isle of Skye I feel compelled to answer as follows : "A very good friend of mine lives on the same street as me (a co-incidence I still can't get my head around) in the City named Maple Ridge in British Columbia .She was born on the Isle of Skye and so we have something in common. She has a very bright mind and keeps me happy by always seeming to know things i need to know whenever my aging memory at 83 years old fails me. She and I are not girlfriend and boyfriend but we do stuff together because we are both from Scotland and have much in common. I have not yet mentioned Caley Thistle as I write but will do very soon. She has been to Inverness but does not remember much about it .She has taught me a lot though, especially how entrances and exits to and from Skye from the Scottish Mainland have worked successfully etc. The real irony of this whole thing is that a very good friend of mine named George Gibson, former civil engineer and also the former water engineer on Skye, and who was also my former neighbour in Dunain Road, Inverness when I was little and lived right next door to him, is well known to Karen because she lived next door to him on Skye .. And , hearing much of this I keep thinking..."My goodennes Gracious, what co-incidences are there to be uncovered and sometimes it's kinda weird too since you can hardly believe such co-incidences can exist. She and I are not romantically connected but she is so clever I can't let go of her apron strings because my memory is now fading and being replaced by dementia. So her younger mind and overall knowledge of everything around me it seems is amazing and helpful to me. I have a feeling that she probably was high up on the list of school duxes on Skye and this would have been her best fit I think as a student and a person but, I think she does come from a different era than old Rodders. But ,Heh! You just never know who or what you are going to be confronted with in life and being a Boy Scout instead of a Life Boy would have been just as interesting for me I feel. Anyway that's only a little bit of back-talk from the worker's condensation board as I see it and thank you Scotty for allowing me to go off topic a wee bit. Very cold and wet, plus snow, here in British Columbia for the last couple of days and more to come as I hear. A lot of potential, additional, flooding in this area is forecast also so I will need my toddy the nicht! I have been coming back on this site more frequently these last few months and I intend to continue since it is so interesting and I have been starved of all soccer (oops football) matches where I live. And when I again see the names of our supporters on here I am really delighted as well. Cheers to all from VERY cold Maple Ridge in the fine Province of British Columbia, Canada......Roderick Rhodes
  2. Ladies and gentlemen/ It 's wonderful to be be back in touch with Caley and the great fans. I have had a very hard time of it over the past few years. Yes, i am retired and just stumbled upon this site by chance (or the Good lord obliged me to do it) but I sure am glad that I have come back, it's just like a homecoming.Memories of yesteryear bring  back so many  nostalgic thoughts.

My wife  Liliya from Ukraine got cancer badly. They say it came from Chernoble just up the road a few hundred miles from the most southern port of Odessa (where she had lived)but I have my doubts and think that It may have run in the family. However she passed away in the very beginning of last year after she and I travelled all over British Columbia to visit several different hospitals but this awful disease never turned a hair and continued to grow. My wife Liliya had fitted in very well into Canada and was well liked. If any of our good punters would like to read her novel, "Destinies in Motion",  I think that you will enjoy it thoroughly since I did and that convinced me to do the editing of the book since I was so impressed by the content and illustrations. Unfortunately Liliya did not live to enjoy the acceptance of her wonderful book which for me was a very sad situation but I did my best to ensure that her wishes were taken into account as I completed this task.Frankly, it's a wonderful book and contains many illustrations all done by herself as well.  And I want to take this opportunity to thank Scotty for his assistance and encouragement and support .

As for my love of Caley and the fans that never wavers and I will try very hard to keep in touch as I used to and I wish all our supporters the very best of times and joy as we continue on our always exciting  journey with Caley.

May I also just wish you all in  Inverness  the very kindest thoughts for the coming season and hope and pray that Caley will achieve what thy deserve finally and win the league. Cheers guys and don't forget to look me up if you ever want to come to Western Canada for a holiday. It's a great country and where we live is also very beautiful.  Roderick Rhodes

  3. The only thought that comes to mind is that it's not the club's responsibility for the individual players to keep fit. It's theirs and a good, honest player knows this and works with his trainer on moves and actions to achieve this. Basically it's called ambition and self respect. Sooo…. midweek games should not be a huge impediment to achieving a high level of fitness. Surely not at this crucial and advanced juncture of the season. True professionals and semi pros are not the same thing. The honest and really ambition and responsible athlete works this out.
  4. Ach! Doesn't Mr. Robertosn have enough worries on his plate the noo?
  5. And Alan Simpson is now ending his sentences with the inimitable way in which Canadians end theirs…..EH? Good for you Alan. it's often the only way in which you can get a real response ----- i.e unless, maybe, you are talking about the Vancouver Canucks hockey team when you may be bowled over by the ferocity of the language used. eh?
  6. Well that was some thread. Personally I see no reason to suggest that Scotland should not try to regain their independence and quit the Brexit hairbrain train. Devolution could open a very good Pandora's box for Scotland. Independence is dynamically special provided the Gross revenue is sufficient in the short term to initially support a devolution. I left so many years ago that I have little idea as to what the gross income of the country is but the last thing I would care to see and experience is to see Scotland going down in initial flames leading to deprivation and possibly economic disaster. BUT,,,,,, nothing ventured, nothing gained,,,,,, and Scottish inventiveness, brains, education and intuition has always been her primary and outstanding asset s-o-o-o-o...……. GO FOR IT, I SAY.
  7. Gaelic is a cute, but outdated, language of communication now. And indicating that one thinks of it as being more of a hindrance to "outsiders" ( e.g. tourists) may mean that the person saying this may not be too far off the mark. Display Gaelic by all means but little explanations in English alongside will not go amiss either. In Canada we have Indigenous(I.e. native Indians) languages, then French and English and , in the areas of our large cities where large congregations of immigrants of the same origin live (e.g. East Indians), then many of them will speak their own native language in their Canadian districts one to another on a daily basis.....except that their kids going to school will use English as a FIRST language whereas the original immigrants will often see it, think it and speak it as a second language only. That's part of the reason why immigrants to Canada often populate just one area of a city with little or no spread-out to other districts. Example: In the Vancouver South area we have a city named Richmond where I bought my first Canadian home. At that time the population of Richmond was only about 8,000, if that, and houses were dirt cheap. . Now there are over 100,000 residents and most of them are East Indian and house prices are extremely high indeed. However, almost everyone who is not yet an old fogie will also either speak English fluently enough, or will have children who do together with the latter seeing it increasingly as their first language....mostly because their friends at school will always speak English and will perhaps laugh at them if they fail to master it too. But, of course, the kids pick up the language very quickly and that will definitely be their preferred first language not the other language as preferred by their parents. Have you ever noticed , too, that almost every reasonably bright and/or educated foreigner whom you come across speaks good English and has no problem communicating with anyone because English is now the distinctly universal inter-continental language of the world - at least by people who have had any kind of an education. Don't look for it from the Onion Johnnies though 'cos I think they are a lost race now are they not?
  8. Right enuff IHE. A junior Moose (very soft fur) I think, But they sure grow to a really large size . A little bit of Canadian back talk from Western La La Land. Dick Whittington didn't make it to Canada but his spirit is what made the pioneers succeed against all odds. Some of the "odds" were tough though and resulted in death for the crews of the covered wagons. So, overall, life was precarious. If you want to read a heartbreaking story perhaps you may want to Google the "Donner Party" deaths in the Wild West. The pioneers had tenacity and tremendous courage but occasionally fate dealt even the most doughty a very cruel blow...………..
  9. Smile ! The Taylor was a sailor and the Copper came a cropper When he tried to arrest the hoodlum Even if he was bigger and really strapping too He knew he had the edge 'cos he knew he could escape on a sledge as the snowflakes drifted down. Would this be a true Canadian "cop" or merely another of his flop(s) Only the one named IHE could call the game as he mused upon buying his ticket to Vancouver in beautiful British Columbia …………….. what will he do to become the hero of the piece...….?
  10. Well, Alan, you certainly are a different kettle of fish my man! Smile. But, personally speaking I, do feel that you have a way of brightening up a punter's day. At least you are refreshingly different and no doubt have made several points that have turned heads and been close to the truth, etc. So..keep on truckin, and buckin ….the trend. And one day you may be the top …. with maybe Dougal as your sidekick......eh?
  11. Loyalty--what is that then ? Players have long ago determined that their best interests are served by playing for a club with a future, money in the bank, and a decent raise at season's end for the next year's performance. Assuming, of course, that their striving and performance during the season about to end has been notable rather than just naughty play-acting. No use at all crying the blues and pointing fingers at this player and that player since that is the modern reality, dearies,---- at least IMHO. And if the selling club does not have the money to boost a good player's paycheque then well..." I really liked playing for ICT but ". will be the tune they play on their imaginary fiddles. It's not about blame ! It's about the reality of modern day pressures and the costs of living.....and, of course, that player's ambition too relating to his future and that of his family.
  12. As far as County are concerned you can hardly blame them now can you! ? It's just all about money and opportunism and I think that County are trying to do what any other club would do also and that is get access to the best players to purchase at a price that they can afford. Caley is close and active so.....we had better get much larger crowds showing up for every game or things COULD just get worse. That or find some alternative source of income......e.g a lottery; or winner take all at Monopoly; or dancing girls from the USA + half-time entertainment.Whatever! …….. we can at least TRY IT can't we? So long as it gives the punters something to stimulate their pulses and earns the club some extra money it can at least be tried in MHO. That means that we must face up to the reality that money must also be spent to bring in half-time entertainment. Please.....remember try , try and try again and you will succeed. Don't try and you may be doomed ..or consumed.
  13. Jock, old Fruit, Surprised to see you are still in top form despite the intensity and fire and death destruction wreaked upon you and your suffering citizens. Fancy a wee trip over the pond and then the other very large pond to visit another devoted fan here in the Wild West of Canada ? Lots of snow in the forecast so the mountains will look beautiful. Cheers Jock, Lang may Yer Lum Reek...…. of guid Scotch whusky. Scarlet.
  14. I have finally noticed Todorov's name appearing as a potential choice for the team in the near future. About time as far as I can judge from a country far-away...why has he been sidelined in recent times? He can't be worse than some of the already-chosen players judging by fan's reactions to date. Someone referred to Storey as a headless chicken, for example. But, regardless of his name, surely his past contributions have indicated that his heart is in the right place and surely he deserves a shout....?
  15. WOW! What a shock to read the result and these few remarks! Stunning actually. Truly, one would think that an all-out effort today from both the players and the Management was not only called for but mandatory. If it's the fault of the players is it poor preparation before the match (to include the Manager's instructions) or just ennui at the end of the season? Are the players tired of the club, or has Mr. J. Robertson actually lost the place or lost the players who are supposed to play all-out for him? The bottom line may be : do this group of players have a really professional approach to business.? OR.... would a change of Manager have any effect? With a set of new Directors in place then finding the right answer is imperative in order to expect them to stay in a longer term position or, indeed, the whole future of the club may be on the line. Comments please.!!!! 'cos I am now very concerned..!!
  16. That badge is a very stylish and balanced reflection of our team in the Highlands...yes? The eagle looks really fine and the thistle is never ever going to be anything more for me than the Highlands plus memories.
  17. Watching that photo of Scotty Junior walking out onto the pitch hand in hand with D Raven struck a chord with me. I am sure his little heart was beating fast. And...he will probably never forget it.
  18. Oh My! These ferries are so much larger than the Kessock Ferryboats I used to know when I was a boy in my early teens. I suppose that's progress...and more money in the pockets of the shipping lines. They sure look good though and probably much more comfortable also! Good thread, chums.
  19. The day we won the Scottish Cup Final will live in my memory even after I lose it. I was watching on a stream from the DEEP SOUTH in America . I got an employee of Shaw Cable network, which company supplies our TV etc, to find one and he found that channel and I was jumping up and down the whole match. A friend of mine was also in the same mood and we really enjoyed the game and the atmosphere. Hysterics in my house when the final whistle blew.. My oh my! what joy. I was so dumbfounded and in disbelief that I tried to speak and could only...….. utter a stutter.
  20. So, for them, then, it was pie in the sky like?
  21. Och! I'm black-affronted and hurt to the quick . Sherry? Never... A wee dram , maybe. Anyway, some of our players apparently have been playing below par so...………………………….. Taking on Willie seems rather silly, just because he's a has-been hilly Billy.? EH? Onyhoo…: Scarlet 0, Posters 2. Real jammy score !. Where is IHE when you need him ? NO rest for the wicked and wild? GRRRR!
