  2. Mantis--**** of the North because he eats a lot of ****-a-leekie soup which makes him look like a tartan Army type, all brawn and some brains and a pair of great hairy legs..
  3. Ach Scotty, I didnae ken that, mun. Were you one of them perchance?
  4. Go for it Itchy. I have pleaded with you long enough to get the fair ship out of drydock again and back on the glorious main in the quest for victory. The Nelson of the North , never missing a beat, nattily-dressed sailors of both genders in their blue and red pantaloons and shirts climbing with alacrity to the yardarm to set the flag of ICT flying bravely. Canons ablazing, dealing negativety in spades to the doughty enemies of the Northern marauders. And winning handily to boot. And, when on the odd occasion they came up against a hard-nosed team of sailors of equal determination, and paid a heavy price for their courage and passion, they always limped back into port unbeaten and unbowed to the cheers of thousands of delirious Northern Footie fans all hell-bent on lending a hand to repair the damage to the bulwarks, the scuppers and the gunwales not to mention the reputation of the always positive Captain , Only the talented Itchy can produce such funny drivel and have us all in stitches. Lang may yer lum reek and yer right arm be able to splice the main-brace, me hearty **** o' the north..
  5. OCH! Well, just purchase a copy of www.destiniesinmotion.com or download the ebook, now at $2.99 --- it could never be cheaper ... a fairytale containing all the fantasy that you will ever need, a cast of thousands, witches, wizards, monsters, romance for the young at heart, portals into other dimensions and derring-do till the cows come home. Sigh, one day I will just have to tell you about it.... e.g. did you know that you can download a free Kindle or, better still, use the link on the "Purchase" page of the website to go to Amazon and use their "SEE INSIDE" feature which is brilliant because it allows you to browse substantial parts of the book all free of charge. Enjoy.. Enjoy
  6. http://www.whitecapsfc.com/video/2013/06/08/highlights-sounders-3-2-caps This recent match persuaded 54,000 fans to show up in Vancouver's sister Port city of Seattle (Sea-attle) U.S.A., to welcome their northern Rivals, Vancouver, from 100 miles over the northern Border with Canada. The fans make a serious racket in the MLS League and this was a very good game for them to cheer about. But even I was surprised at the number of enthusiasts who came to see and conquer. Amongst whom were at least a thousand Vancouver fans who think nothing of travelling to support the ever-improving 'Caps. The tension and atmosphere,in what really was a derby game, and some of the footie was great. Kenny Miller has been coming on to a storming run of form lately and has scored some cracking goals now demonstrating his latent skill and I think he has improved his own fitness level. When not scoring he has been putting in some wonderful fast-action passes for the Vancouver forwards to score too. Enjoy folks.
  7. There you go, that's the spirit.
  8. You've gotta go and gear up for a good time . It'll be great, mun. Golly, gosh, have you seen that lovely picture of our ground on the main site. Will get your galoshes galloping so it will . But stop just before you enter the Moray Firth just by the entrance to the park because it could be cold at that time of year. Chilly for June , like. Heh! And this may be your only chance to wear a kilt 'afore ye die. So....make the most of it and ,,,,,ENJOY the RIDE. S.P.
  9. I like Buckett because he turned out all right . I like IHE because he's different. I like coming on here because it helps me to relax and keeps me sane. In an adult world, like, where I can post drivel if I like and still be appreciated. I like www.destiniesinmotion.com because it transports me to a world of fantasy. Which we all need in trying times and often therein find reminders of what is really important in our life's journey. And I love My Caley Thistle fix which I hope I will continue to enjoy for a very long time to come , even into IHE's dotage which. methinks, is just around the coroner...oops! sorry, corner.
  10. I agree Laurence. The boy is so controlled that you don't even see him. And Katherine, what balance and muscle control control ; Just perfection.
  11. Yes Renegade and on that night , at which I was in attendance, ICT thrashed these youngsters. Although....maybe it was put -up job for the occasion. Their Manager was supposed to be livid and was telling the press that he was going t fine each of the players 500 or 300 quid each. Meanwhile, back at the ranch Terry and the Guy were enjoying a whisky and soda together perhaps.
  12. O K, IHE, may I stick to Heckling from now on?
  13. In any business paying out 43% of gross revenue would be regarded as high and uneconomic. Prior to retirement from my service industry business here in Canada, which I ran for 29 years doing all the work myself for many prior years, I set an upper limit of 33% of gross income for wages to which has to be added the taxes applicable (employers did pay a portion of what the employee paid by way of Canada Pension Plan and Employment Insurance premiums and for himself, as the owner, 100% of both deductions applicable to his wage even if employers were not allowed to claim E.I.!) I did have one past employee who was very faithful and very conscientious so I did pay him 38% to39% of the gross income per annum of the work he actually did and he lasted 4 years until his interest and performance fell off when we parted company on mutual good terms. But this was a low-income-per-job business so he did very well. What that figure does indicate for ICT is that they are in a business where the normal rules relating to control of expenditures for total year expenses do not apply because it's entertainment. It's a high salary business because the control the club has over the distribution of their wealth is much less due to the fact that players have much more power to bargain, think much more highly of their worth and have a shorter working life in which to build up a nest egg for retirement. But, compared to the other clubs, this low figure is remarkable and very praiseworthy indeed. Which is enhanced therefore in terms of praise because of the terrific success they achieved this last season. Meaning that someone, somewhere, within the ranks of the employed have done a very shrewd job of player selection, training and motivation.
  14. Yeah, but for quite a higher entry fee though? The sport of soccer at the higher level is a relatively new phenomenon over here and when the maestros of the buck decide to move they know that to spend money they have to spend it . So they build huge stadiums and get expert advice on the state of the game and how successful they are likely to be, Make no mistake about it they are spending money to make money and that is why, IMHO, that the likes of a good coach such as Alain Vigneault of the Vancouver Canucks ice hockey team got the boot after 7 successful years here just because the hockey team did not progress this year in the playoffs--hence the owners lost millions of dollars in lost revenue. One year they can overlook, yes, but two in succession that's just not good enough for these businessmen first and fans second. In Vancouver, for example, in one area of the city over the past few years some 5000 boys played soccer regularly on weekends and that has been the trend for years. So there definitely has been an active interest in the game over here and since virtually all citizens are immigrants or sons or daughters of past immigrants then you can see where the interest readily comes from. The development of T V and the internet has also glorified the sport and people can easily see now that it is THE game to be involved in because the networks are becoming more global by the day and the youngsters can see with their own eyes how popular and exciting this game is all over the world. In England you have some 55 million people don't y, more or less and in Scotland the population has shrunk from what?--8 million to five. Compare that with 33 million in Canada and some 240 million folks in the U.S. and you can see it's a no-contest situation. At the games it's razz-ma-tazz and constant singing and cheering whereas that's just not really the case in Scotland is it. People go for a good time here but not necessarily to cry their hearts out for days if they lose. And there is a lot more money to invest in the game over here in North America, compared to Scotland I mean.
  15. All a bit mesmerizing for me the noo. Will wait a bit until it is all sorted out then the picture will be clearer. It probably will find it's own level and if small teams are obliged to travel great distances then the league may have to subsidize their travel expenses otherwise it simply will not work financially. It's all very well saying what was commented about Exeter going North but there are no freeways (motorways) in Scotland leading up to the north of the country. So time and stress for the drivers will have a negative effect ion the players At least, yes, a major step in the right direction though..
  16. Well, who would have thunk it Scotty? I didn't know all that interesting stuff. All I know is that Martin Rennie, manager of the Vancouver Whitecaps, comes from Golspie where his Dad was, supposedly, a preacher. Come to think of ,I have never seen his lips say a swear on the touchline. Jumps around a bit maybe and gets agitated a little from time to time but curses? I don't think so. I know , like all of us, he was very disappointed at that loss to Seattle in that city recently--the 'Caps had played very well and had the momentum for most of the match so ,yes, it is a bitter blow to be beaten in the last moments of the game. But he accepted it with good grace but, like his very disappointed players, he did look a bit down in the mouth. The North American scene is livening up though with some faster action on the parks and some neat football on show so keep an eye on North America for the future. The 'Caps get a steady 20,000 to 23,000 fans in the door at home every time they play and the fans are raucous lot--which is great ..
  17. Right on. It was Thistle F.C.
  18. Vancouver Whitecaps travelled 100 K South to Seattle in the U S last weekend and narrowly lost 3-2. Kenny miller had a very good game , which he has upped from previous weeks, and put in a delightful cross for one of the Vancouver goals. Wait for it--the crowd at this game was.....54,000. Vancouver had brought over 1,000 fans with them too. That is an incredible number with the average ticket costing about 20 bucks, say 13 pounds. So these MLS teams can play and pay and no wonder players from all over the world are coming to the MLS to ply their trade. Local players are coming through also of course but no one here complains about the foreign element--all that matters for the fans here is that they put in a good effort and they get a few thrills and spills. This game was electric and the atmosphere was very, very noisy and exciting! The North American fans never stop cheering..
  19. Er..I hear that Barry Robson was a head- ringing tearaway when he was a starting-out youngster at Caledonian F.C. frae Aberdeen too. But Vigurs seems to carry an icy edge when it comes to stimulating the love juices of the fans on here?
  20. OOOOH! There's a Moose loose aboot this hoose. And, boy, are they big beasties. As Dougie Danger has eloquently depicted with his smilie pictures which are worth a thousand words. What a brilliant post. OOPS! I can't find a Smilie left in the house.
  21. If these youngsters turn it on and develop strongly into very effective playerthen we can thank Terry's presence at the club as much as anything. As the ex captain of England these youngsters will still be slightly in awe of him and will see his influence and methods as a help to their career. Amnd who can say that his influence on the club in general has not been significant to oput it mildly. Cheers and forward.
  22. Charles B. why do you hate Dougal so much? He's different perhaps, but so are a few others, including Scarlet who is so different when he is on form that even his Daddy Pimpernel can't cope with him, so he shakes his bright and breezy head and just walks away carrying an "I surrender" flag in his right hand hoisted high. What would happen to this site if everybody who had a different opinion than yourself was thrown out at the first statement? I welcome different opinions than my own because that's why I come on here and furthermore, if I can't justify mine without descending to acidic, viperish, vituperative put-downs, then Scarlet is in real trouble. And what difference does it make whether a poster comes from Inverness and does not understand the local vernacular that well or from Germany where, incidentally, I note that at least one intelligent poster comes from and does tune-in to this site very well indeed? Why do you have to go "joupeen over the gate" instead of simply jumping over it ? Is this some rite of passage from intellectualism to common-manism that you feel is necessary to convince other posters that you are just another ordinary guy in the street thus justifying your opinions and language and getting their tacit support. Forgive me Charles, but I get the impression that you only go after those in this way whom you consider to be vulnerable and perhaps not the favorite posters on the site but when up against a stronger opponent you tend to backtrack and joke your way out of the morass that is forming around you that frankly is of your own making. No doubt in your profession, being an icon of admiration from the students, you have a hard time adjusting to the real world in which the average man or woman has to grit it out facing challenges from adults, not children, which tests their will and attitudes to the limit. I have always yearned for a place in cloistered academe as my glorious fantasy but, alas, alack , it has always been Scarlet's fate to have to face the rough and tumble of life's brutal realities and never wear a mortar board and gown to earn respect. As for Dougal I don't know how he has lasted so long on this site in the face of such unfeeling rejections of his views and frankly I admire his persistence and his spirit. And if you study his remarks carefully enough, without allowing your emotions to get the better of you, then there are some interesting references and views expressed by same, de temps en temp. Dougal is a burr under your saddle, Charles, and long may it continue and you should just hope that he doesn't one day come after you with such intense sarcasm and ill-considered remarks by way of riposte or we shall see at that point how long you stay in the field of battle to suffer the slings and arrows....
  23. Put him on a tight reign Terry and don't try to force the plant to grow quicker than is natural. Maybe a game against the likes of Tade will bring him down to earth a wee bit if his natural exuberance makes him have his head in the clouds. No disrespect to Ben but he remains to be tested in the CRUCIBLE OF FIRE...AAARGHHHHHH!
  24. Can't be a Mod, Renegade? No! Surely you aren't Ben Battle are you? Ben Battle was a soldier bold, Who went to war's alarums A cannonball shot off his legs And now he's got no arums.
  25. What Scotty said.
