  1. definitely interesting ..... Whilst the backbone of the team will undoubtedly remain primarily Scottish and probably 'Highland' for years to come due to the club's current size and the often used 'geography' excuse it is refreshing to think that there are no barriers (other than wages) to signing any player who might be willing to come to us. I also thought the signing of Juanjo was significant as it went outwith the bounds of parochialism that we seemed to have in years gone by .....
  2. HC - i think the politically correct term has reverted to 'black' as opposed to 'coloured' ... at least it has over here. Leaving semantics aside, to answer your question, I believe he would be the first black player to pull on an ICT shirt, certainly in the first team for sure. At the end of the day, if a player is good enough thats all that matters and his background, religion, ethnicity, nationality or anything else thats not directly related to his football skills matters not a jot. (not that I am saying you are suggesting otherwise).
  3. This even made it to 'Talk Radio' over here .... was listening to the story as I drove home last night. Most callers to the program thought that both the child and mother needed help and there was an even split between those who thought the child should be removed and those who thought it would be counter productive. The way it was worded over here was ... "Is it child abuse ?"
  4. .... funnily enough, I actually visited the Bovine quite a few times before I moved here as the hotel i stayed in on my visits here was reasonably closeby. I havent been in there in about 2 years though. Its a great place, very strange and eclectic, punk rock music some nights, country and western on other nights and some very strange but funny events are always being organised. Its definitely a 'cult' clientele and the owner told me he added 'sex club' to the name of the place when he bought it so he could draw a crowd .... it worked !!! Queen Street is a very strange place ... lots of 'hippy' like shops selling hemp products, bongs, and such like mixed in with swanky bars and outright dives. One of the things i remember about the place is that it has hundreds of (empty) bottles of Jagermeister lining the walls .... if the owner buys you a drink its always a shot of Jagermeister. If you have never had it, it tastes like cough syrup except that it blows your head off !!!! Daryl - the owner [attach=1] Busy Bar with all sorts of strange things hanging from the ceiling [attach=2] Daryl wearing one of my T-Shirts ... His surname is 'Fine' and my T-Shirt said 'really I'm Fine' with a picture of a dead (or drunk !!) cow (Bovine) on it .... appropriate for the place. .... If you notice the t-shirt hanging behind him, you might recognise it in the next pic. [attach=3] Safe and sound back in Inverness after adventures in the Bovine [attach=4]
  5. how far we have come ........ At the risk of being accused of having a 'small team mentality' I find it somewhat unbelievable (although understandable) that we are all so down talking about losing 1-2 to the league champions 'elect', a team full of multi million pound 'stars' where one player costs and is paid more than our entire squad and a team which held the mighty European giants AC Milan to a 0-0 draw in their last game. It was very similar to the last time we played Celtic in the cup at the TCS, Celtic faced ICT sandwiched in between domestic games against Rangers and European games against Liverpool. ICT were the only one of these sides who managed to knock them off their game (and out of the cup). No matter how close we came we simply cannot win every time and sadly this is what happened yesterday. As a famous pundit once said "Its a funny old game ..." even when we are trying desperately to hold back the tears of disappointment. However - don't get me wrong, I share the pain and feel just as downhearted as those who were actually there yesterday. I got up at 6:30AM and after being really peeved that the website was down, I scouted around the rest of the web and Canadian cable TV to try and find any method of watching or listening to the game. This of course met with no success (but thats another subject) so I was forced to use the BBC and SKY live (text) update services and just about woke up the whole neighbourhood when Graham Bayne scored. Without the benefit of TV pictures or audio I was also bemused at the substitutions but thought 'OK, CC and DP have a game plan'. As i was making a coffee just minutes before the end (in my nice ICT mug) I mumbled to myself that when i refreshed the BBC page it would probably show a late goal for Celtic as we seem prone to losing late goals and they have a habit of scoring them. Sure enough, when i got back in front of the PC, the next screen refresh confirmed my worst fears ... and a subsequent refresh left my weekend in tatters. I did not function well for the rest of the day yesterday and still find it hard to believe we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. From what I have read, it seems that the players gave their all - the scoreline up until the last few minutes seems to confirm this - but in the end, Celtic's 90 minute football was better than our 85 minute version. Mistakes were obviously made, and these mistakes were not only expensive emotionally (for players and fans alike) but also financially and I hope that lessons have and will be learned. I salute the team for the first 85 but please, please, please work on defending a lead in the last 5 as the game is not over until the final whistle blows. For all his faults, Craig Brewster did have us playing for the full 90 and we need to get back to that.

  11. According to poltran.com it means this :010: :010: "Though both (both of) matches of cups of premier league will give arthur Boruc only though partial answer on it, as it is prepared team feckin Cellic tawts, it is necessary to remember it, that next matches were as (serve) selection check also Zurawski tosser. So, it is proper to observe , that ( jedenastkę if bad nothing in matches with (from) ŁKS and plotsk in first league match with (from) vistula not happen ) see most probably Tattie Muncher Cracovią. "
  12. Interesting to note that the Highland News thinks Richard is going to change sports by signing for the Maple Leafs (Ice Hockey) as opposed to Toronto FC (football ... a.k.a. 'soccer') ........ * Christie denied that full-back Richard Hastings is set for a possible return to Canada. Reports suggested on Monday that Toronto Maple Leaf were keen to take the ICT ace back to his native country, but the club insists he will continue contract talks with director of football Graeme Bennett next week. 13. This is for information only (hence the reason it is locked from replies). There is already a thread discussing ticket prices etc elsewhere on the main board.... It seems that this weekend's match is not yet a sellout. There are still a few tickets available in the Main stand (mostly in uncovered section) and also in the North stand. Prices: North and Main Stand uncovered Adult £22, Concession £17. Main stand £27 and £22.
  14. The scary thing is that there was a regular TV show over here featuring a comedian called Rick Mercer called 'this hour has 22 minutes' and it had a segment on it called "Talking to Americans" where he does the same as you see in that clip ....... His biggest 'coup' was getting to talk to then presidential candidate George Bush on the campaign trail where he said that "Prime Minister Jean Poutine" had endorsed him for president. Dubya showed off his knowledge of the world and thanked "Prime Minister Poutine" on camera. For the record, the Prime Minister was called Jean Chretien and Poutine is a popular food which is best described as chips with gravy and melted cheese ...... Some more dumb things from the show http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talking_to_Americans
  15. The original story came off the newswires from the Daily Express as a final paragraph to another article. I havent been able to find the article online as the Scottish Express doesnt seem to have an online presence but the article itself is genuine. The content of course could very well be newspaper speculation hence the posting in the 'rumour mill'.
  16. To be honest, no-one really knows (yet) .... Toronto last had an MLS team more than 25 years ago (the Toronto Blizzard) and many users on that site are harking back to the good old days !!! .... A fair proportion were also Toronto Lynx fans and that is more on a par with the Highland League. Without having seen a game, from what I hear, I think the MLS would be on a par with the SPL ..... the season starts in about 9-10 weeks so ask me again in 3-4 months and i can give you an honest answer :004: I must admit though, I am looking forward to it ... a decent level of football in an accessible location with all the games being played either in the evening or on saturdays/sundays ...... the few times I went to see the Lynx it was a major expedition as they were based in the middle of nowhere and were not only rank rotten but also had really weird kick-off times ... like 12:45pm on a tuesday and stuff like that
  17. Not guilty :015: :015: The newsfeed that the Toronto guy quoted came from the UK Daily express - its not in the papers here (yet). I am not sure of the exact rules as they are pretty complicated but bottom line is that Toronto have to have a certain number of Canadians in their team/squad and a decent player who is Canadian, out of contract soon, and playing in the team manager's (Mo Johnston) home country is always going to be linked to the club. I have two things I see as a barrier to him coming here (other than the thought of me in the stands) .... firstly, Richard was born in British Columbia which is about the same distance west of Toronto as Toronto is from Inverness so its not exactly "coming home" !!! and secondly, although he is "Canadian" we all know he is only Canadian by birth and in reality is far more Scottish/Invernessian than he is Canadian. The biggest draw for Richard may be if he wants a final crack at getting into the Canadian International squad ? Its far more likely that a Canadian playing for Toronto will be selected than one who is playing in the SPL. The buzz about the new team is pretty big over here - partly because the team is owned by a company who also own other sports teams in the city and know how to do their marketing and also because of the whole Beckham to L.A. Galaxy and potentially making his debut in Toronto scenario. Whatever he decides, I hope it is the right decision. I will cheer him from afar if he continues to play for ICT and I will support him from the stands if he makes Toronto his home.

  19. If Hart is free of injury, then at worst he should perhaps be on the bench as he is undoubtedly not match fit and this is not a game where you put players in the starting lineup to increase their match fitness !!! I will defer to those who have seen him play this season, but listening on the radio when he has made appearances from the bench he has certainly been in the thick of the action and commentators have said his contributions have been excellent. Much like Ian Black gave the side a lift on Saturday when he came on, Richie seemed to do the same in at least a couple of games earlier in the season. At the end of the day, CC will pick a side that he thinks will win the game, regardless of what we think or say. I think we are likely to see only 1 change with Black coming in at the expense of Duncan and the forward line remaining unchanged. However, I would prefer to see HC's 4-5-1 with Duncan remaining in the side, or if we must play 4-4-2 then swap Rory for McSwegan. I dont feel particularly happy slagging off Rory but a striker's job is to score goals and 2 in 18 appearances this season or 3 in 36 all time is not a happy stat.
  20. maybe not injured, but fighting his way back to fitness after injury is he not ?
  21. OK - Chibber is going to need the emergency gates opened so he can get in on Sunday - I agree with his selection too. We are somewhat limited in our selection options because of injuries but a 4-5-1 formation would allow Black to get back in at the expense of Rory and hopefully make the midfield solid and creative. It would mean that Bayne would have to do a lot of work, but he does that every week anyway. I think Black has paid the penalty for his petulance. He has come on as a sub in each of his last three appearances without picking up any bookings. He has even shown restraint when the opposition tried to get a reaction out of him in two of these games so perhaps the penny may be dropping. I think we would all agree that a creative Ian Black showing controlled aggression on the park is a tremendous asset. Its a shame that Hart is still injured, McSwegan isnt fully fit and Paatelainen is cup-tied or I might have made a slightly different suggestion .... and if both Dargs and Denzil were fit I think most of us would have them in for Sunday
  22. Absolutely agree, there is nothing like being there - however, when the same player is mentioned in commentary half a dozen times as missing a shot or misplacing a pass, then you dont have to be Einstein to work out he his having a stinker .......
  23. Agree with several comments in this thread ...... from listening to the full game on radio yesterday, here are my comments on what Kheredine Idessane and Willie Young had to say. Goalkeeping: Mike seemed to do pretty well - commentators gave him several :021: Defence: The whole defence was pretty anonymous. I dont think Dods or Munro were mentioned during the game (so therefore didnt do too much wrong either), but Tokely took a bit of stick for falling over like a sack of spuds a couple of times and the 'hoarding challenge' which Willie Young did say was fair. Only Hastings was commented on positively a few times. Midfield: Duncan was the main man singled out - how many times was it mentioned that he ****ed up a pass !!! Rankin was also mentioned negatively (not as good as normal) and both Royston and Barry were anonymous in the coverage. Attack: It was said that Bayne works hard but my own feeling is that he needs someone more experienced to play alongside. McAllister was gash and the commentary team wasted no time in highlighting several blown opportunities where he could and should have scored. On the plus side, the commentary team were very positive about both Markus and Blackie when they came on as they did seem to have a huge positive effect on how we were playing. As an "armchair manager" I would say that Black needs to come back into the side and that Paatelainen has also shown enough in the short spells he has had, to be given a run-out. Its unfortunate that he is cup-tied for next weeks game as I would have had him on from the start. I would also say that Rory needs to take a step back down for now .... he showed against Celtic that he can do it, but both before and since then he has looked disinterested or incapable. Whether that means we go with McSwegan up front or maybe use Morgan / Paatelainen / Zander on the wings and shove Barry up front who knows, but I am afraid that Rory just cannot cut it at the moment and we would be as well playing 4-5-1 than 4-4-1 + Rory.
  24. can we get back on topic on here please. if you want to wind each other up or take the piss do it somewhere else - like on private messaging or the AG forum.
