  1. On my way home from the match, an old Millicent Martin song , from TW3 came to mind. In essence she would sing " That was the week that was, its over, let it go ", I translated that into " That was the match that was, its over let it go. I think reading what everybody else thinks not far off the general consensus of opinion on this web forum. Personally I wish to forget it and let it go. If some of you have never heard of "That was the week that was". ? known as TW3 I have posted a link in "general nonsense" seeing as it happened well over 50 years ago when I was in my prime
  2. Well I really don't know why you ask, unless its to make fun of me, but I will tell you, I am now 75 years of age, I grew up in a time when if you lived in England, people loved Scotland and would go there on holiday whenever they could, my dad was a mill manager, one of the best engineers of working cotton mill machinery there was. He often came up to Paisley to help in maintaining the mules there. He sometimes brought as well me when I was quite small. We had a car and would pull a caravan, up from Lancashire, and at the age of 10 would visit Inverness. When I was around 17, years of I drove my motor bike all round Scotland, I just loved the place. Later on when I got married and had a young child , I visited Scotland and camped . As I grew into my adult years, we often visited Scotland, and my son rented a cottage in Aberfeldy,, we visited him on many occasions, He wanted us to move north. On top of that at the end of the last century, having retired from the Fire Service, and was later, privatised by good old John Major, I'rn a bookshop in Sussex, I realised that was just the Internet was now the way to sell books, I was selling more on the Internet than I was selling in the shop. I gave up the lease, and took the books home. I noticed on the Internet that a large property was for sale in Inverness-shire , I bought it because it had a large storage area. I brought from Sussex 12 thousand books which I have since increased to 34,000 , I gave another 5000 to my son to start his own business . I am well suited to life in the Scottish village, I Live in, and there is no way at my age am I going to leave, and be driven out by rampant Nationalists who have no idea the harm they will cause to this beautiful place.

    Hearts Game

Just a point the Hearts goalie was outstanding two world class saves didn't help our cause one iota.

    Hearts Game

The best team won who can argue with that. The 5 goal margin was a true reflection of the play . numbers for the draw are I am told are based on the alphabet, so as the letter P is well away from the letter I , I think to suppose ICT would draw Celtic is probably incorrect. I think that Caley would have learned a lot from the defeat . The manager and coaches will know which aspects of the team's tactics we have to improve on . The commentators on BT sport picked up on centre backs getting in too close to the striker, good stickers especially big ones make a point of backing up into the centre back, it cuts down the backs room to manoeuvre. To mix completely a well known metaphor "every silver lining has a cloud". The real season is ahead of us, as Charles Dickens once wrote, " The best steels have been through the fire ", Caley certainly went through the fire on Sunday, lets see if they are stronger for the future league battles.
  5. A lot of promise for the future is coming home , me thinks
  6. Romantic drivel - If we have a border issue between the Republic and Northern Ireland that would be nothing compared to the issues thrown up by a Brexit border I mentioned , . Only time will tell what the issues will be between England and Scotland's border - All imports will have to be paid for, Scotland will have a balance of payments problem from day one. Stand at the side of the road, Count how many cars are built in Scotland. Go in Argus, Tesco, Asda, or any major store, find goods made in Scotland. Remember separate from England , Scotland will have to pay its own bills. No British treasury to bail out Scotland, - Berlin won't want another Greece ? No way will England let Scotland have the pound, they are not daft enough to underwrite Scotland's import bill.
  7. It all brings a bit of jazz to a lot of people with , Hum Drum, lives. Keep going Charles keep us entertained,
  8. Que será, será What will be, will be
  9. Que será, será What will be, will be and Lets not be negative before the season even starts
  10. No more nightmares then ?
  11. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SepdQNv_Bs Or to play when we score I know there are (c) problems but maybe that can be sorted
  12. I suppose some people will never be happy until we get the banana Peoples Republic of Caledonia, and have an hard Brexit border stretching from Berwick to Carlisle. Because that's whets coming
  13. I should think there will be quite a few clubs interested in his services ,I think he is still a good player , Too many of our past stalwarts are lining up against us. Down south teams like Accrington or my own favourite Bury I am sure would be delighted to sign him. Useful centre backs don't grow on trees. I suspect his injury situation may not help.
  14. The crowds obviously enjoyed it, Nice weather a day out, A lot of church going for people who have never been in a church for years, An American hell fire preacher, I didn't care much for. Apparently worth scores of millions in tourism for the treasury. What more can you ask. Basically two nice people getting hitched , hope it lasts. As Homer Simpson said " Marriage is a three year commitment ", Mine has lasted 49 years , with at least several rows a week to make it interesting. When the groom says " better or worse ", I always feel the bride is thinking " how much worse",?
  15. Looking at the balance, Alloa Athletic and Ayr United are probably and certainly look better than Brechin and Dumbarton, although Dumbarton on a good day can get a result. The relegated teams from the Premiership, I wonder, neither I think are as good as St. Mirren , Livingston, I wish all the best too of course, where not really any better than us. Hopefully we can enjoy a good season I see no reason not to fear anybody, the extra revenue from hopefully two gates against Ross County will be useful. Partick I have a lot of time for, but I don't think they are as good as St. Mirren Lets go and win the league. Also let us learn to run the clock down when winning with minutes to go. Coaches should be teaching short corners and short passes from free kicks, No need to go gung ho when you are winning.
  16. I take it then that the team now playing as "Rangers" , is a new Limited Company, and as no connection with the team, formerly known as " Rangers", . If so can the media stop referring to past matches and records of the former " Rangers ". If it is a new club as we all believe including the Rangers board,. Then all previous records etc. of the old club should not be referred too i.e. Talking of the number of cups won, or wins against Celtic. Maybe it is the media who need to wake up to the fact that old club playing as "Rangers", is gone.
  17. The old Wimbledon, now MK Dons have returned the FA cup trophy and the Amateur cup trophies they won as the previous franchise to the Merton District Town Hall ( which takes in Wimbledon ) as they feel it was inappropriate to keep them. I do wonder, Charles will know ?, Are the trophies won by our two former clubs, residing in The Inverness museum, or similar place - If the example to be followed by Wimbledon, is the correct approach or not ?
  18. Thanks to all - I am a fan of the TV programme " The Chase " - about a week ago it was a question, The contestant got it wrong - " The Beast " , got it right. That was how I came to know the information. By the way picking holes in a 74 years old spelling mistakes smacks of someone with nothing better to do with his time.- You should note Ian Callaghan has two LLs in his name I will be taking time out from this Forum as my wife says I waste too much time on it, When I should be drinking sherry and bookselling and gardening I am off to Aintree tomorrow I will be there at the Grand National in The Tattersalls ring . See, you all next season. God Bless !
  19. I apologise if this has been mentioned before, but I have only just found out. That the headline " Going Ballistic etc. " in respect of Calley's defeat of Celtic , was not original. ) Apparently, it was based on a lesser known headline from the 1970s, also football related. That version relates to Liverpool’s Ian Callaghan playing a blinder in a victory over QPR: ‘ "Super Cally Goes Ballistic, QPR Atrocious’." note. Ian Callaghan played more times for Liverpool than anyone else Source http://www.wordsworks.co.uk/best-headline-ever/
  20. The extremely popular Sky Sports presenter Natalie Sawyer has had her contract I believe terminated by Sky. Is it because she is now 38 and passed her sell by date? No reason given , Shame on you Sky
  21. e We could rid ourselves of devolution, and save that money pit drain in Edinburgh. We could send equivalent of the Barnet formula to the local authorities throughout Scotland , and go back to being a proper Union.
