  1. Top man, Dave the Rave - thanks for the outstanding memories! You have a right to question the finacial chaos that has ensued since the cup win - the management has been shambolic. Unfortunately, in football, mistakes tend to be compounded financially - in this case, the necessity to pay Hughes for garden leave impacted on the choice of the next manager (on account of cost), which got us relegated with falling attendances, leading to poor morale, even more player departures, poor form, early cup exits and falling attendances (repeat). I think the answer to the question "where has all the money gone?", while fair, is answered simply by the fact that the club has consistently run at a loss of ~£300k per annum for years and the books have been balanced by the various windfalls during that time (league and Scottish cup runs, Butcher compensation, Christie sale). That is a precarious existence, which will go wrong at some point. How wrong will be determined by the shrewdness of the board...ours failed that test spectacularly. The real issue is, and always will be, how do we get more people through the gate? If you look art the Scottish Prem this year, the league table almost exactly mirrors the average home attendances. The surprise should perhaps not be how far we have slid but just how outstanding our achievments were over those years when The Rave was with us. Apologies for the negative tone here - after hte game on Tuesday, I'm really quite upbeat about our prospects for this season, but I think we'll need to get used to the constant churn of players, as attendances are not going to recover significantly any time soon.
  2. I can see why Vigurs got the yellow, although it was purely accidental and Vigurs must have made contact because he went over to apologise - the Livi player just put his head in where most don't. It was the first yellow that was either a shocking decision by the ref or daft from Vigurs (dissent). Worst of all was the Livi player leading with his arm just before the sending off - not even given as a free kick. Definite yellow and possibly a red.
  3. Don’t really know what to make of that. The guys were really comfortable in the first half - playing some decent football without creating much. Doran was a breath of fresh air. Then the red card - first one for Vigurs was either for trying to trip the boy who Polworth eventually nailed (also for a yellow) or for dissent. The second was for a high boot, which was harsh. 2nd half was a bit backs to the wall without Livi really producing much. Austin was excellent when he came on and created a couple of good chances. Oakley worked hard, but was persistently fouled and got nothing from the ref at all. Glad that Raven got his moment with the fans at the end, but two points wasted because of a combination of shabby reffing and Vigurs’ indiscipline. Still in touch and, if that’s the standard, we can definitely get to the play-offs....but we need to keep 11 on the pitch!
  4. It’s results like these that make a season. Looked like we’d drop points after Tremarco was sent off, so an outstanding turnaround. HOWEVER, our discipline is going to take its toll: it has already taken Raven from us, now Tremarco will miss a game - add in the accumulated yellows for the likes of Vigurs and we might struggle to field a team towards the end of Jan! For now, however, we can rejoice in the fact that QoS, Livi, Dunfermline, Morton will be looking over their shoulders....watch out - the Highlanders are coming!
  5. Great seeing Doran back: like having a new signing! A fairly uninspiring performance, BUT a win AND another clean sheet! What a run the guys are putting together - those dark days of September seem a lifetime away now....thank God.
  6. Loving this impenetrable defence: where did that come from and what happened to the shambles of just a few games ago. You’ve got to hand it to Robbo - it is not easy to stop the rot, but he’s managed it!
  7. The irony is that those 2 scrapping effectively relegated us by gifting Hamilton an undeserved win against St J.
  8. Don't you love the guys who shout "shoot" every time we cross the halfway line. Honestly, sometimes the ball is about 40 yards out and you hear some clown shout "shoot!" What's worse - when one of the players gets impatient and fires one over the stand from 35yards, the very same fans are screaming blue murder! Unbelievable!
  9. This is really unravelling. Fans having a go at players, players having a go at coaches, players having a go at other players. Disharmony reigns. I wasn’t at the game today, so can’t comment on Polworth’s performance, but his effort for the cause this year has generally been above most if not all of his teammates. The abuse is unwarranted, misguided and counter-productive. His only sin is that he gives a damn. Many of the others don’t. The club is rotting at its core and staring down the barrel.
  10. Think we're going to play the boys against Peterhead. Ordinarily, that would constitute playing a weakened team, but on this occasion I think it's the opposite! If some of U17s get a run out, they have deserved it and the "first" team should have it made clear that their places are on the line. Any decent performances should be rewarded with replacing the duds without a second thought.
  11. Nobody should underestimate the depth of our problems right now. Relegation would be irreversible: ICT would return to part-time football. Even if we stay up, the word is that we'd have one more year to get back up, otherwise the result is the same. The core problem is that the support is evaporating with every passing game: even the die-hard support is collapsing. Why? The players show no heart, the management continues to flounder and the Board continue to stumble from one shambles to another. What's to like? It is really, really hard to find a reason to go to the games - they are not entertaining and you leave with the feeling of being cheated out of the entrance money. My concern is that there are zero signs at any level in the club for the decisive action necessary to turn this round and to bring the support back on side. I confess that I'm genuinely terrified about our future and each week that passes is another nail in the coffin.
  12. So, the list of positives from that reads: 1. Clean sheet 2. ......nope, that's it.

    Robertson Out

Agree, Kingsmills. Surprised at Falkirk's start to the season; they gubbed us in the league cup and threatened to upset the big boys for promotion last year. He doesn't become a bad manager overnight, so he could do a job here. The question is: Would he want it? Would anybody? Unlike a year ago, this job is a poisoned chalice, with a poor squad, dysfunctional board, empty coffers and collapsing support. Not a very attractive prospect for somebody to take over.

In hindsight, IBM, you are right, but I can't believe that Foran's wage was as high as an experienced manager might have been. The problem was the 4 years: Who's bright spark idea was that?! A 6 month probation like in any other job would have been sufficient to establish that he didn't have a scooby.

    Robertson Out

Decisions around management and coaching staff have been shambolic since October 2015. Hughes wanted away to United - let him go, take the cash and let Rice go with him. Instead, we end up paying him and going for the cheap option of Foran. Nightmare. Then too late on sacking him, not only to avoid relegation, but also to bring in somebody new to have a chance of recruiting before the best have gone. Finally (too late), we opt for a man who didn't want the job and was left with the dregs to bring in to replace quality leaving the house. You really couldn't write this sh!te: It's known as compound errors; laughable, except that our cup winning club will soon be condemned to part -time football. Robbo is and never was the answer, but right now, the Club doesn't even seem to know the question.
  16. Unacceptable. But what to do? We have 2 or 3 decent players and a bunch of dead-beats who care not whether ICT drift into oblivion. We have 2 seasons (max) to stay a full time outfit IMO and somebody who cares needs to grow a pair and make that clear to the manager and playing staff. Staying up will be a challenge: Best get used to that reality.
  17. Vigurs played really well in the first half hour. As well as the ball for the goal, he also played a bute in for Baird in the first minute - these are the kind of killer passes that should win games - and this praise from Vigurs biggest critic last year (when he was truly mince, except for the last few games). Polworth at least shows some heart: With about 10 minutes left, he charged back from an attacking pisition to put in a challenge on the edge of our box, while everybody else gave Livi the freedom of the park. Trafford, Vigurs and Polworth would be my first picks on the teamsheet. The rest are the problem...
  18. First league game I've seen. Verdict: We're going to be battling at the wrong end of the league. The heart of midfield is fine (Trafford, Vigurs, Polworth) and Bell is lively, but the rest are poor and the centre halves are a shambles. We had a lot of possession and transition was good, but tried to walk it in from 18 yards. Played some decent stuff in the first half but fell apart in the 2nd and barely threatened. All 3 goals involved missed headers at the heart of the defence: Not good enough. After we went 3-1 down, Livi were first to every ball. Weak.
  19. Who knows what the hell is going on with OFW. I only see that everybody loses from this. Fon Williams is not playing and his hopes of international recognition goes down the pan. The Club has yet another PR disaster, is paying for a player who won't be played and have a calamity in goal who has been a contributing factor in more than one defeat this season. In fairness, OFW made his own fair share of ****-ups last season (near post free kicks were a particular shambles), but I sense that Ridgers is in his own class ewhen it comes to goalkeeping talents.
  20. Chris Froome appears to endorse pizza eating recovery - if it works for him.... PS - cycling is at the forefront of sports science.
  21. Tiny study, but the evidence is indeed turning on this. We need protein, carbs and -yes - fat to recover and repair, so is it surprising that foods that contain these groups do the biz? Recovery is half of the equation: preparation is the other, and there is much stronger evidence surrounding what to eat and when before matches. IHE will be disappointed that 8 pints and a few pies are not top of the Friday night menu for a superb performance at 3pm on Saturday! ?Again, it isn't rocket science, but marginal gains might just make the difference on the day.
  22. Sports science is absent at ICT. It might be about marginal gains, but we need every bit of help we can get. You don't need to invest in anybody to tell pros what they should eating. The occasional pizza after a game is not a problem, but what do they have before a game? Does anybody care?
  23. So, we've lost to Falkirk, Dunfermline, DU and St Mirren so far this season....I know Falkirk was in the cup, but the point stands. These were the top competitors for honours this season and we've lost to the lot, sometimes heavily. I think we all have to wake up. This season is about rebuilding. OFW is a smokescreen- yes, he's tying up funds, but remind me when the transfer window closed and how many really good players are out there wanting to play for a club in turmoil? That horse bolted in July. We need to accept this is what we have and get some team spirit going with Board, players, manager and fans. It's time for siege mentality, fighting together and stop looking for scapegoats. If we don't, we'll be relegated.
