  2. Did anyone see Stokes second pen' against Spurs yesterday? The pen' hit the goalies left hand post, ran across the line to hit the other post and rebounded back to the penalty taker who then hit the bar. Amazing bad luck.

  5. The thing that bothers me JV (and one or two others) is, what appears to be, Brewster's dropping and hooking of players for personal rather tactical reasons. Ian Black is a prime example. I forget which game is was but Ian had a great first half and was hooked for the second..why? Maybe CB would be the 'half decent' manager we are looking for if made changes to benifit the team rather than his ego. And yes, I agree with you, we are not big enough to attract better managers.
  6. I think as football supporters we are treated very badly by the authorities. The amount of money we pay to get into games should lead to a greater respect. This doesn't happen at football grounds. Once inside the turnstiles we are almost always treated like little school boys (and girls) and told to sit down and shut up. If we were treated like that in, say, a large store, there would be uproar. I guess as football fans we tend to accept the treatment that is handed out to us. I agree we should all make complaints on a regular basis every time we get treated like dirt, but we don't.
  7. Back in those days I only a tape deck (no vinyl) and I played Seventh Sojourn to death. A few others went the same way too. It was Hakwinds Silver Machine that inspired me to buy the In Search of Space album. Silver Machine was the groups only hit single I believe although they never released many. I loved that single so much I even painted my push bike silver...including the tyre's...
  8. Baring in mind we haven't played the (so called) big two yet, after eight games we are only four points better off than at this stage last season. The better judgement may come after 11. Having said that, from what I've seen on the park, I believe the team are better than last season but only slightly. I had grave fears for us this season and these fears, although allayed at the moment, may still return. Are next three game are against Celtic (h) Motherwell (h) and Rangers (a) and I think we'd be lucky to come away with a point. Brewsters tactics and his hooking of players for personal reasons is a big worry. I,m with IHE on this one were he say's "If we had a half decent manager we would be up at the top in a season where the standards have really fallen"

  10. Not so long back I would have agreed with you on that but Old Speckled Hen has now been 'vandalised' by the Greene King emporium. It took over the Moorlands brewery, which brewed OSH, and reduced its ABV from 5.2% (or thereabouts) the a measley 4.5% This was in an effort to sell more of it, apparently.
  11. Shamefully knicked from another forum...... Best current investment advice If you had purchased ?1000 of Northern Rock shares one year ago they would now be worth ?4.95. With HBOS, earlier last week, your ?1000 would have been worth ?16.50. ?1000 invested in XL Leisure would now be worth less than ?5. But, if you had bought ?1000 worth of canned Beer one year ago, drunk it all, then taken the empty cans to an aluminium re-cycling plant, you would now get ?214. So, based on the above statistics, the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and re-cycle. Right...I'm off to Aldi's
  12. Real Ale isn't to everyone's taste and it was only in recent years (around 1989) when I was weened off lager. Down here it is was Carling Black Label which is all over the place now. We also have the rancid Brew XI. Other poor one's in my distant past would include icons such as Watney's Red Barrel and Worthington E. Real Ale showed me the way forward. There are thousands of differant ale's out there, some weak, some very strong. I know most folk enjoy their Tennants et al but its worth trying a differant real ale now again. A good barman will let you have a wee taste of an ale before you commit yourself to something you don't like. If he doesn't allow you a sample then take your money elsewhere. Best one's for me are Caledonian Deuchars IPA, Orkney Dark Island, Cairngorm Trade Winds, Skye Red Cuillin and Fullers London Pride. And the worst...any 'nitro keg' such as the cream flow and cold beers. Youngers Tartan is also vomit inducing to me. I always cringe when folk ask for Stella. Don't get me wrong here, I used to drink this stuff when it was imported. Unfortunately it became so popular that they started to brew it in England......in Luton FFS. It doesn't taste the same anymore, honestly. With referance to a cold beer in hot weather then I like nothing better than cooling pint of Cider.
