  1. Inverness were dealt a blow when an own goal from Brad Mckay was enough to give Rangers all three points despite the hosts being played off the park by a lively Inverness. Martyn Waghorn cut along the byeline and prodded the ball into the box, unfortunately it cannoned off Mckay for the only goal of the game. The goal came seconds after Lonsana Doumbouya spurned a great chance to score at the other end, Foderingham stopping the ball on the line as the big striker looked to be impeded before poking the ball goalwards. Larnell Cole almost benefited from slack play across the Rangers back line but Foderingham saved well again. Greg Tansey saw another effort saved by the keeper and Carl Tremarco almost got on the end of a deep cross that was just missed by Doumbouya as the visitors dominated in everything but the scoreline.. The best chance before the break fell to Liam Polworth after another cock-up in the home defence, alas he side footed the ball just the wrong side of the post. It was more of the same after the break but Rangers did break forward occasionally only for players to squander the chances. Owain Fon Williams was a virtual spectator as Inverness searched for the goal their slick play deserved, but he was eventually called into action to deny Jason Holt an undeserved second for the hosts. The last major action saw Foderingham deny sub Alex Fisher who spun and fired a superb volley towards the top of the goal, unfortunately the keeper was alert enough to tip it over for a corner. Full Time 1-0 So, bottom of the table as expected, but that was as good a performance as we have had all season and deserving of so much more. I'm not sure the goal will stick with Waghorn as it was going across the face of the goal before striking Mckay, but we will have to wait and see on that one. As I said, great performance, but wrong result. Motherwell next, a win would be nice. Alternative Maryhill was slightly more restrained in his summary. Really frustrating to come away without anything there. We looked stronger at the back than we have in ages - Meekings was superb and Mckay again showed that he has been an excellent signing - and we pressed the ball really well further up the park; Tansey and Doumbouya deserve particular praise in this regard. Cole also had probably his best game for us to date - nominally starting on the left of a three behind Doumbouya, he actually played a bit of a free role and looked far more willing take players on than he has in previous games. The drawback of the line-up and tactics we adopted was that we were very short of pace up front, and, especially with Doumbouya dropping back to support so much, we lacked anyone overlapping or taking the ball on. The chances we created - and there were more than there have have been for a while - were mostly created through sheer hard graft, forcing Rangers back by degrees. The fact that we weren't able to take any of them points to a fundamental weakness in the current squad that will probably see us struggling all season, even if we can turn in performances as impressive as this on a consistent basis. Then again, six points against Motherwell and County and we could be back in the top six for the start of 2017. Funny league this year. Merry Christmas btw, CTO folks. Richie Foran was quoted on BBC Sport as saying "I think the fact Rangers struggled is all down to us. I thought we controlled the game and absolutely dominated the first half. We cut them open on numerous occasions and were solid at the back. I can't ask for much more than that We were just lacking that wee bit of magic. Unfortunately we were up against a goalkeeper in unbelievable form. It's soul-destroying how we don't come away with more than a point today." 2. Ho Ho Ho It's Xmas Eve and we have to get on our sleigh and head to the home of the bad Santa's at Ibrox to deliver our Xmas presents. Wrapped up nicely ready for delivery are no clean sheets, loads of injuries, gift goals and Richie Foran's beard, bless him. And to make matters worse, Barbara is on her way and we kick off at 12:30, yes, you read that right, 12:30 (in the afternoon). It's a daunting task at any time of the year, but the powers that be think it's no problem to go to Govan on Christmas Eve for a wee kick about with the bears. Maybe someone should send them a calendar and a map for New Year so they can get the fixture list sorted. Anyway, the bears den it is and we just have to get on with it. The Rangers have done as well as could be expected after their meteoric rise through the divisions, lurking in the top quarter of the Premiership. With Aberdeen fluffing their lines at Dingwall and Hearts stuttering under new boss Ian Cathro, the Gers find themselves a distant second behind Champions elect Celtic and look like being the best bet for the second spot and the Euro place that goes along with it. It's all happening below them though as seven or eight teams vie for the right to enter the Championship. Unfortunately, one of the front runners at the moment are Inverness Caledonian Thistle. However, this can all change at the drop of a Santa hat, noticeable last weekend as County displaced Kilmarnock in the top-six for now, being the only winners from the bottom half. Last time out the Rangers held on to beat Hamilton Accies at the Superseal Stadium thanks to a brace from Martyn Waghorn. Dougie Imrie made their keekie winkers twitch with a late strike but it was the Blues that took all three points to tuck in behind Celtic. Our last game saw us score late again to earn a point at Rugby Park. Souleymane Coulibaly scored a contentious stunner only for Gary Warren to level matters to get us what looked like a distant point at times during the game. Credit to us for keeping the energy levels high despite suffering more injury blows with Lonsana Doumbouya, Brad Mckay and Lewis Horner all being replaced because of injury. The Ibrox club are on a great run of results in their last nine games since losing to Celtic. Their only defeat was 2-0 at Tynecastle, but they rectified that a couple of games later by beating the Jambos at Ibrox by the same score. Three wins on the trot and five games without defeat at Ibrox sends out a grim message to Inverness that this is not going to be an enjoyable festive frolic. We have scored only two goals less than the Rangers but it's in defence where the difference is obvious as we have conceded almost twice as many as them (34 to 18). Our last result at Ibrox was a 3-0 League Cup win in October 2012. Goals from Andy Shinnie and Gary Warren were added to by a Graeme Shinnie penalty. The first encounter this season was won by a stunning Kenny Miller volley as Inverness offered their visitors the freedom of the park. Our generosity knows no bounds. It looks as though we withdraw our attacking intent when we go on the road and remove Mulraney, Doran, and King looking to fill the midfield with more bodies instead. Problem with this is that we can't buy a clean sheet either and once we start chasing the game it's difficult to see where the goals are going to come from. Our one paced midfield has to work harder and will need to get up to speed quickly at Ibrox or they will be overrun. Injuries are rearing their ugly head once more with three players limping out of Rugby Park. Lewis Horner took a more than robust challenge and will be out for a couple of months with knee damage. Brad Mckay suffered a bleeding nose on top of his sore shins courtesy of Graeme Shinnie against Aberdeen and Lonsana Doumbouya was singled out for some rough treatment. It was good to have Liam Polworth back though, and sooner than expected as well, so that's a bonus. Keeper crisis is ongoing with both still suffering in silence. Kev McNaughton will be out for months and David Raven till at least the end of January. Scott Boden and Alex Fisher are ready for action. Mark Warburton can look forward to this one with less pessimism. The Joey Barton revolution looks like it's over. Apparently he likes a bet and he is set to join Burnley again. Jordan Rossiter and Nico Krancjar will miss out but Matt Crooks, and Josh Windas should be available for selection. tm4tj prediction:- I'm expecting the worst to be honest and fully expect us to be propping up the league by the time 2017 comes along. We are dangerous when the chips are down but if our heads go down as well we could be on a steep learning curve here. We have taken points from Ibrox before but will need to be at our best and cut out the slackness. I'll happily take a point now although I fear that is more a wish than a prediction. Interesting times ahead and we could do with more attacking intent, drive in midfield and a no nonsense defender. The Xmas wish list will be sent to Santa, I hope he has the presents that Richie requires, although we will maybe have to wait until the January sales to get our bargains. I'm not sure it will be a Whyte Christmas at Ibrox, but it could be a white Christmas in the Highlands. Rock Star Rod, AKA Naelifts has this Xmas message for everyone................ And finally, Richie looks ahead to the challenge at the bears den.................. Merry Christmas
  3. A Kris Boyd goal within 30 seconds of kick-off and a second half Carlos Cuellar goal was enough for Rangers to see off the Caley Thistle challenge. After taking 7 of a possible 9 points from the Gers last season, this seasons numbers are a little less pleasing... 0 out of a possible 6! 03/11/07 Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow Rangers 2 Boyd (1), Cuellar (63) Team: McGregor, Hutton, Cuellar, Weir, Papac, Beasley, Ferguson, Hemdani, McCulloch, Novo (Cousin 60), Boyd (Darcheville 61) Subs: Naismith, Furman, Lennon, Faye, Carroll INVERNESS CT 0 Team: Fraser, Tokely, Munro, McCaffrey, Hastings, Proctor (Morgan 86), Duncan, Black (Cowie 87), McBain, Bayne, Wyness (Niculae 84) Subs: D. McDonald, Vigurs, Kerr, Malkowski Referee William Collum Attendance 48868 A smaller than usual army of Caley Jags fans turned up for this weeks SPL fixture against Rangers at Ibrox. Hardly surprising given the price of tickets to see any of the teams in the SPL these days and with away trips to play Gretna last weekend and Aberdeen midweek then wallets will have already taken a pounding. It’s been a strange week though. After a convincing performance against Gretna where we never looked to be in danger we were taken back down to earth with a bump in our CIS Cup fixture against Aberdeen despite playing some decent football. One never expects to go to Ibrox and come away with the points but given the fact that that our only loss there had been over 3 years ago, then we had reason enough to be upbeat. We were down in good time on the minibus and nosiness had gotten the better of me and I wanted to check up on the rumours that Barry Wilson had been dropped from the squad and would not be making the trip south with the team, so we headed round to meet the team bus….low and behold there was no sign of him. However, this didn’t stop the ladies battling to the front of the crowd to drool over the lads and offer some encouragement ahead of the game. The Wilson question had been answered, but curiosity remains as to the reasons!!! Best place to ponder over such things is in the pub, so off we went for a couple of lemonades before heading in to the game. Listening to the squad being announced things started to get strangerer and strangerer. Not only had Wilson not been included in the squad, but the on form Cowie who has performed consistently for us all season had been relegated to the bench with Proctor getting a start. I’d barely reached my seat when I glanced up to see the ball in the back of the ICT net. Only 34 seconds in to the game and a goal down…from memory that is the quickest goal we have ever conceded and actually quite fascinating when you consider we’d had the kick-off and the play leading up to the goal had resulted from McCaffery bringing Novo down from a free-kick just inside our own half. Ferguson took it quickly, passing to Novo who caught us napping - feeding the ball through a gap big enough for a 747 for Boyd to latch on to leaving only the keeper to beat. Oh Horlicks!!! Was this going to be a repeat of Wednesday night? Wyness was first to give the ICT fans something to shout about when only moments after losing the goal he was up the other end and testing McGregor…well, making him aware we had turned up at least, as he had little to do but catch the long range effort…still promising signs that we had some idea on the direction of the goal. Beasley was next to get the ball in the net, but fortunately for us he’d been flagged offside before he’d even touched it. 5 minutes in, and already Rangers are looking to run the clock down with wasted efforts after the whistle had been blown....lol. It wasn’t all one way traffic and although Rangers looked like they may pose a threat on a couple of occasions our defence, in large, seemed to be dealing with most of what they had to throw at us. Meanwhile at the other end Bayne had been given a couple of opportunities to open the scoring…going narrowly over with his first effort and having his second blocked by Cuellar. Munro also had a half chance with a long ranged left foot effort which went wide of the mark. Novo was next to notch up a conversion putting on over the bar and Duncan did the same for us at the other end. Had this been a game of Rugby we might actually have had our noses in front based on drop goals!!! Much of the action was taking place in the middle of the park with both teams making the odd toothless foray into the oppositions third which wasn’t causing either keeper too many problems. Rangers had a couple of half decent chances just before the break when Fraser got a string hand to a shot from Beasley to parry it for the corner and McCulloch went wide with a header. HT – Rangers 1 v 0 Inverness CT We were a goal down, but we certainly didn’t look out of it. It was hard to tell if Rangers were just “doing enough” and had it in them to step up the pressure if needed, but we had been knocking the ball about well and only seemed to be lacking a bit of creativity in order to open up some better chances at the front. The defence who have come under a lot of criticism this season seemed to be performing a little better, partly down to the presence of Proctor who was dropping back to cover for Tokely when he was making charges forward…although this did leave us a bit lacking in the middle on occasion. This seemed to have been the reason for replacing Cowie, but with us being a goal down and it getting to the stage where we might need to chase the game then thoughts during the HT chat among fans surrounded substitutes and whether we may see them before the magic 79 minute mark. Caley Thistle appeared to have the majority of possession at the start of the second half but it was 10 minutes in before we saw the first effort from any team go near the goalmouth when Bayne popped the ball over the bar from the edge of the area. Fraser gathered a shot from Beasley without much effort and Tokely picked up the first yellow card of the game following a slack tackle on same. Caley Thistle looked to have been handed a golden opportunity when a Weir, attempting to head back to McGregor, succeeded in putting it over the keeper and into the front of the goal…a yard quicker off the mark and we would have equalised, but McGregor recovered and eventually managed to smother the ball. Not surprisingly, Rangers were the first to make some changes when Novo and Boyd were replaced by Cousin and Darcheville on the 60 minute mark. Rangers started to turn the screw at this point and it wasn’t long before substitute Darcheville left his mark on the game. His clever ball from the middle of the area was met by Cuellar who scored into the bottom right of the net, leaving Fraser with no chance at a save. Frustration seemed to be setting in and Hastings was next to pick up a yellow card for a tackle on Hutton. The game was crying out for a tactical change on the part of Inverness, especially now that we had gone 2 down. We needed to bring on players to give us more of an attacking threat, be that someone with pace coming in to the midfield or us sacrificing a man at the back to put a third forward on the park, who knows, but the change was needed. We had been creating chances the whole game, but they were mostly long(ish) range efforts and we weren’t doing anything to carve our way through the back line of Rangers. Our long balls in to the box were being crowded out and it was only from set pieces we were getting any penetration. McBain and Duncan had both had chances and Proctor was caught offside when it looked like he may have stolen a chance to go through one on one with the keeper but the only keeper being tested to any degree was Fraser. If we weren’t putting it over the bar then we were playing it straight in to the hands of McGregor. The “Magic 79 Minute Mark” had come and gone with still no sign of any changes for ICT, this was all getting rather frustrating. Then finally on 84 minutes we made a change with Niculae coming on to replace Wyness. Again a baffling decision, what we needed was more of a threat, so why take of our top scoring Striker!!! 2 minutes later we made a double substitution. Black and Proctor coming off to be replaced by Cowie and Morgan. 4 minutes left in the game and we’re looking for miracles. In truth, other than a late shot by Cowie we rarely saw the ball again. Full Time: 2-0 Yet again the lads on the pitch had, for the most part, done what had been asked of them by the manager. I remain perplexed by the late use of substitutes in games where they are crying out for changes earlier on, and this “like for like” change of players on the pitch is doing little to change the tactics even when subs are made. Early in the season some of the players looked like they needed a good kick up the jacksie to get them going but things changed around when Brewster arrived…now it’s Brewster that looks like he needs the kick to get him going so as to prove that he has more about him as a manager than just getting the squad fit.
  4. Craig Dargo made a welcome return to the starting lineup and scored the late equaliser that ensured the Caley Jags will finish the season undefeated against Rangers. It all looked so different in the early stages when Darren Dods was sent off for a 'last man' challenge and Charlie Adam scored from the resultant free kick, but the team regrouped and came away with a point after the late equaliser. Club Historian Ian Broadfoot reports from Ibrox. RANGERS 1-1 ICT 31st March 2007 Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow RANGERS 1 (Adam 14) Team: McGregor, Hutton, Weir, Papac, Murray, Novo (Burke 67), Ferguson, Hemdani, Adam, , Boyd, Prso (Sebo 81) Subs: Robinson, Thomson, Ehiogu , McMillan & Shinnie INVERNESS CALEDONIAN THISTLE FC 1 (Dargo 81) Team: Fraser, Tokely, Dods, Munro, Hastings, Duncan, Rankin, Hart (Wilson 72), Paatelainen (McCaffrey 20), Dargo (McSwegan 90), Bayne Subs: Soane, Sutherland, McAllister & Ridgers Referee William Collum Attendance 50278 With two wins already over Rangers this season Caley Thistle were looking for the hat-trick. They did not quite make it but a 1-1 draw at Ibrox with ten men was about as close as it gets. The Caley Thistle side was shuffled as Grant Munro returned from suspension and Ian Black started a three-game ban. Richie Hart came in for Barry Wilson, Craig Dargo and John Rankin returned to the starting line-up and it was back to the bench for Stuart McCaffrey and Gary McSwegan – in McCaffrey’s case for just 20 minutes. Not surprisingly Rangers came at the visitors from the start and Dado Prso sent Barry Ferguson through in six minutes - Michael Fraser was up to the task and he blocked well. Prso then went down in the box but penalty claims were ignored by the referee. In 13 minutes Darren Dods departed early for a last-man foul on Kris Boyd and Charlie Adam netted the resultant free kick from 25 yards. Ross Tokely temporarily moved into the middle of the back four but in 20 minutes Markus Paatelainen was sacrificed for Stuart McCaffrey and there was to be a successful rehearsal of the likely defensive line-up after Dods heads for Tannadice in the summer. Ian Murray took a high ball into the box in 25 minutes but his curling shot went over the bar. As half time approached, Grant Munro headed wide of the Rangers’ goal and a Prso volley went wide at the other end. Half Time: 1-0 Rangers had chances to extend their lead after the break but an Alan Hutton cross was headed wide by Prso then in 62 minutes Fraser blocked a Boyd effort. Boyd blasted over from eight yards in 74 minutes and the visitors began to create chances at the Rangers’ end. Alan McGregor tipped over a Russell Duncan effort, a curling ball from substitute Barry Wilson went over the bar then the home fans were stunned nine minutes from time when ICT equalised. Richard Hastings crossed from the left, Graham Bayne played it from the back post across goal and Craig Dargo knocked it over the line from a few yards out. Ibrox began to empty of Rangers’ fans as the reality of two dropped points hit home. Full Time: 1-1 The whistle went and a happy band of away supporters headed back up the A9. With one game left before the split ICT remain tenth but there is a clear gap between them and bottom clubs St Mirren and Dunfermline.
  5. RANGERS 0-1 ICT A Graham Bayne goal in the 71st minute was enough to earn Caley Thistle all three points against Rangers. This was Caley Thistle's first win against the Glasgow side in eight attempts. Caley Thistle Historian Ian Broadfoot supplies the official report from Ibrox. 14th October 2006 Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow RANGERS 0 Team: Letizi, Bardsley, Rodriguez (Novo 73), Papac, Smith, Hemdani, Ferguson, Adam, Buffel, Prso (Boyd 59), Sebo Subs – Rae, Svensson, Hutton, N'Diaye & McGregor INVERNESS CALEDONIAN THISTLE FC 1 (Bayne 71) Team: Brown, Tokely, Dods, Munro, Hastings, Wilson (Hart 87), Black, McBain, Rankin, Dargo (Duncan 83), Bayne Subs – McCaffrey, Wyness, Sutherland, McAllister & Fraser Referee Ian Brines Attendance 49494 Man of the Match Grant Munro (ICT) A dramatic first ever win over Rangers for Caley Thistle after a tremendous defensive performance and a Graham Bayne goal on the counter attack. The Scottish Cup victories over Celtic and Hearts may be the pick of the club’s history but this is right up there with the best – most certainly the club’s best SPL result. The final whistle was greeted with loud cheers from the small away support and boos from those Rangers’ fans who had not left early. Rangers’ stand-in goalkeeper Allan McGregor was the SPL ‘Player of the Month’ for September but he was still dropped in favour of fit-again Lionel Letizi. The media criticised this change in advance and Rangers’ manager Paul Le Guen must have regretted the decision when Letizi gave away the goal that cost them the points. For Caley Thistle Ian Black came back into the side at the expense of Richie Hart and Liam Keogh missed out through suspension. With Dennis Wyness now fully recovered from his shoulder injury he took a bench spot. Rangers started at pace and in the first five minutes they had three corners. They rarely found the route to Mark Brown thanks mainly to sterling defending by the back four. Grant Munro in particular was praised by all the media for his fine performance. Caley Thistle did press towards the Rangers’ goal but mainly on the break. On the half hour mark Caley Thistle were awarded a free kick when Dado Prso fouled Barry Wilson on the right. Wilson played it short to John Rankin and he forced a punch save from Letizi – it fell to Roy McBain’s ‘wrong’ foot and he hit over the bar. With three minutes of the first half remaining Rangers finally found a way through to Brown but he kept the Inverness side in the game when Thomas Buffel turned, shot on target and Brown saved it with his legs on the six yard line. A minute later Ian Black was shown a rather soft yellow card which means he has earned a one game suspension. Half Time: 0-0 The second half was much like the first with the Caley Thistle defence repelling all that Rangers could throw at them. In 58 minutes Buffel nearly managed a shot from a Prso pass but Richard Hastings managed to block it. Buffel hit over the bar in 62 minutes then in 71 minutes came the defining moment of the game. A break from defence led to Craig Dargo racing through the middle and shooting from 20 yards. It looked a safe catch for Letizi but the reinstated ‘keeper spilled it and Graham Bayne was there to knock it in. Rangers were shocked but continued to press. Steven Smith hit wide in 79 minutes then captain Barry Ferguson shot over. The home crowd started to leave as they saw no way back for their side. Rangers had a strong penalty claim when Nacho Novo was seemingly fouled with a minute of normal time left – he regained his balance, shot wide and nothing came out of it. Full Time: 0-1 The final whistle went and Caley Thistle had once more ‘Gone Ballistic’. The fantastic result led to a three-place climb to fifth in the league. A day to savour and another chapter in the remarkable history of the club.
  6. Ian Broadfoot reporting from Ibrox as the pressure lifts off Craig Dargo as he gets his first goal for the club in this 1-1 draw with reigning SPL champions Rangers at Ibrox, and he did it in style with a spectacular effort. Saturday 29th October 2005 Ibrox Park, Glasgow RANGERS (Alex McLeish) 1 (Thomson 54) Team: Waterreus, Hutton, Malcolm, Andrews, Bernard, Burke (Thompson 46), Ricksen, Hemdani, Ferguson, Lovenkrands, Prso Subs - Rae, Murray, Namouchi, Smith, McCormack & Klos INVERNESS CALEDONIAN THISTLE 1 (Dargo 26) Team: Brown, Tokely, Dods, Munro, Hastings, Proctor, Black, Duncan, Morgan, Bayne, Dargo (Wyness 85) Subs - McCaffrey, Hart, Juanjo, Parratt, Fox & Fraser Referee I Brines Attendance 47867 Man of the Match Ian Black (ICT) If Wednesday was a night to forget then this most certainly was a day to remember. For the third time in five SPL meetings Caley Thistle held Rangers to a 1-1 draw. It was also the second time that this has been achieved at Ibrox. For Craig Dargo it was also a special day as he scored what Rangers' manager Alex McLeish called a 'wonder goal' in 26 minutes - the striker's first top team goal since his summer arrival. Graham Bayne may see the day rather differently as he received a second yellow card in 82 minutes following a foul on Peter Lovenkrands. Craig Brewster made many changes following the Falkirk defeat including resting himself. An injury to Barry Wilson created an opening for Richard Hastings in the revamped starting line-up and Richie Hart made way for David Proctor. Ian Black, Craig Dargo and Graham Bayne returned and Dennis Wyness started on the bench. Long-term injury victims Stuart McCaffrey and Juanjo made the bench for the first time this season. Rangers most high-profile absentee was Jose-Karl Pierre-Fanfan with Bob Malcolm taking his place. Alan Hutton came back into the Rangers defence for the first time following a leg-break. Rangers pressurised the Caley Thistle defence from the start with Lovenkrands shooting across the face of the goal and Alan Hutton heading over the bar. The home fans were stunned in 26 minutes when Dargo collected a long kick-out from Mark Brown and scored with a dipping volley from 25 yards plus. The visitors could have added to this soon after but Alan Morgan hit wide from the edge of the box then Ronald Waterreus saved bravely at the feet of Bayne. The closest Rangers came to an equaliser before half time was a Fernando Ricksen header which came off the crossbar. Half Time: 0-1 Chris Burke made way for Steven Thompson in the home team at the interval and he joined Dado Prso up front. It was the substitute who saved the day for Rangers in 54 minutes. The goal came after sustained Rangers pressure when Mark Brown rose to collect a Hutton cross, clashed with Fernando Ricksen and the ball broke free - Thompson had an easy task to score from a few yards out. From then on Rangers did everything but score. They came very close when Peter Lovenkrands back-heeled a Ricksen corner but Morgan cleared off the line. A minute later Lovenkrands ran from his own penalty box to the opposing one before ending on the ground following a Grant Munro tackle. Penalty claims were denied. Thompson and Marvin Andrews came close before Bayne's dismissal eight minutes from time gave Rangers what should have been a vital man advantage. They could still not break down a resolute Caley Thistle defence. Four minutes into added time Mark Brown brought off a classic save when he pushed over a Thompson header. Full Time: 1-1 A fine afternoon's work by Caley Thistle and a valuable point which retains eighth place with 14 points from 13 games. Dundee United and Falkirk are closing fast and Dunfermline now share last place with Livingston on 5 points.
  7. Klos, but no cigar A narrow victory for a nervous Rangers side. The first ever meeting at Ibrox with Rangers, and in the end a game that ICT certainly should have taken something from. It was getting that final ball into the back of the net that saw it ending pointless but it could have been so, so different had McCaffrey's lob beaten Stefan Klos Once again ICT fielded the same starting XI and throughout the 90 minutes took the game to Rangers. The only goal of the game came after 17 minutes from the head of Dado Prso when he took a Chris Burke corner kick and headed the ball into the roof of the net. ICT hit back and Juanjo Carricondo had a chance after good work by Roy McBain but the Spaniard dallied and his shot was blocked by the Rangers defence. ICT's best chance of the half came in bizarre circumstances when Ross Tokely's harmless-looking cross from the right was headed against his own crossbar by Maurice Ross and the ball was eventually cleared by Craig Moore. Just before the half-time break the unmarked Boumsong struck the ICT woodwork with a fine header. Half Time: 1-0 The home side kept up the pressure early in the second half through Prso and Novo but ICT then had a superb chance to score an equaliser through Richie Hart but the midfielder hit the ball just wide of the target. Boumsong again hit the woodwork and Ricksen came close with a free-kick which was superbly saved by Mark Brown but it was Caley Thistle who were enjoying most of the second half possession. Stuart McCaffrey then caused havoc in the Rangers defence. After a melee in the Ibrox penalty area the ball came out to McCaffrey who lobbed the ball goalwards only to see Stefan Klos turn the ball over the bar for a corner kick. Unfortunately, the referee decided the ‘keeper had not touched the ball and a goal kick was awarded. Coming into the closing stages of the game it was all Caley Thistle and the pressure was all on the Ibrox side to hold out. In the closing seconds of the game Grant Munro was booked for a second time and was sent off. It ended 1-0 and it is amazing to think that ICT came to Ibrox Stadium for the very first time and at the end of the game were disappointed to come away with nothing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rangers: 1 (Prso 17) Team: Klos, Ross (Khizanishvili 45), Moore, Boumsong, Vanoli, Burke, Ricksen, Mladenovic (Hughes 34), Lovenkrands, Novo (Arveladze 61), Prso.
