Well - I actually feel fer ya young man but the only answer is patience and perserverance - I cant see what else you acn do in the dog eat dog world of today. The only other thing that impresses me when I am interviewing is that the person has researched the role, the company etc. They have made the effort to read the info etc. and can respond quickly to question asked. Always a plus in my book if ya ask to have a iste visit and ask pertinent questions. That is all very difficult when ya have so many applications on the go.

I hope that your efforts will be awarded in the near future but if ya start feeling down and need a listening ear - then give somebody else a shout !!! :rotflmao:

i know its a long shot but have you ever considered a career in the Territotial Army?

They are totally flexible regarding Work, Family things like that. The only conditions are that you are 17-32/ no criminal record and have decent fitness.

There is always lots of things to do with them and the benefits you can recieve from them is incredible. Not only would you get a pension, you could go abroad with them to name one of them, and if you havn't already they pay for you to sit various vehicle tests i.e Car, Lorry, Motorcycle. And the bar is cheap which is an added bonus :rotflmao::thumb04::D:D:D

When i came out of the forces i quickly realised the most important factor in getting any job was not your qaulifications or experiance (although they help) but contacts. Don't be afraid to put yourself about and whilst i hate buzzwords ,"networking" is all important depending on what you want to get in to.That said, i ended up self employed so what do eh know about getting a joab !

I left the forces 5 years ago and have just started my second job since joining "civvie street" Both jobs have come about through contacts and friends.

Don't know if you are interested in overseas or whether its an optio but Aramco out here is a massive organisation, mainly American, but no doubt work in your field here without taxation.

Good luck Rig anyway

Rig,

i left my apprenticeship at the end of Dec. i have being trying everywhere for another apprenticeship but no1 seems to take on apprentices anymore. i worked for GAP Group Plant & Tool Hire and i've tryed all other plant and tool companys but every1 has said no. i sent out 42 CVs only heard back from 6 of them. Am going to try car mechanics now so hopefully i'm lucky with 1 of them. its just a waiting game

All the best, hope your interview goes well

RIG, don't give up mate and try to stay positive.

It took me over 6 months after graduating to get the job I'm in (in Glasgow), have been here over 2 years now.

I don't like interviews, I get nervous. I was late for this interview as my train was replaced by a bus due to severe snow and I ended up in Edinburgh (don't ask!) but I still got offered the job. I believe a large part of it was down to personality and enthusiasm. They have to want you there, they have to think that you are going to fit in with their team and that you really want the job. Try and be confident, I know I get nervous at interviews but they expect that a little, I also think the being late thing may have worked in my favour a little as I was convinced I'd blown it just by being late, but no I got offered the job the next day. BTW - don't be late, it was voted the very worst thing that you could do at a job interview, I was just lucky I think!

When I got my Uni placement too it was because the chap interviewing me was Scottish (was in Leicester) and a big footie fan too so we talked about ICT and football a bit, obviosly my work was good too! I believe in both cases it was a bit of personality that made me stand out, it makes them remember you a bit more as the chances are many of the CV's and interviews are all of a good high standard.

Anyway, there's some good advice on here so all the best mate.

Cheers Beastie (and others!)

Was pretty nervous before the "interview" yesterday but, as had been told to me on the phone, it was to be more infomral and it was. A decent chat about what I have done, what I am interested in, what they are looking for and what they do.

Seemed to go well but there were one or two things said that made me wonder if I should take the chance and go for it if I was offered the job. The salary was good for where I am at in my life just now but a few other things to weigh up if I do get to go for it.

all the advice in this post is good, have used it whenever I've needed to in the past. The comments about keeping positive are so true

So having just finished a contract, if anyone knows a place that needs I.T. staff......I'm available! :rotflmao:

Good luck RIG

Cheers

Cheers guys.

Not heard back from them yet. They had said to call them by the middle of March if I hadn't heard back which I thought was somewhat odd but currently still waiting by the phone at the minute. Not many other irons in the fire currently and could do with a wee break.

Hi Rig Just thought I would add my input. I am a Branch Manager for a recruitment agency which specialises in drivers and we are absolutly dead, its soul destroying from my side of the desk having to explain there is no work in this current climate. My job is at risk as well. This industry was boyant a year ago and could have got a position anywhere, and there was a big shortage of drivers (artic) but changed days.

Keep trying, as you have been unemployed for so long have you not been offered to retrain in anything by the job centre......... ?????

I get asked by drivers all the time for me to write them a letter for training organisation to say I will give them work if they pass their ADR etc etc (even though there is no work) it is crazy.

Also job centres are creating jobs as the unemployed rates go up more people will required to assist.

Good luck my thots are with you all that are not working and not for the want of trying, I could be joinging you soon :rotflmao:

I am currently employed (luckily) but they are jobs I have been looking to get away from for a while now. A change is needed more than ever.

Hopefully you won't have to be looking for jobs any time soon so fingers crossed for yourself!

Phoned back yesterday and was told they still haven't made a choice as they recently interviewed another person for the role who had come forward. Apparently I will find out at the start of next week if I have been successful.

Good luck, I had an interview and they didn't even respond to let me know they'd chosen someone else....rude f#ckers!

After a couple of fruitless attempts to get something more secure (and permanent), I'm going self-employed again (did it a few years back and it was quite enjoyable)....( I do I.T. Support). Got the Co. name, got the website underway, even got some clients!! Big question is which ICT player should I sponsor first?

Still haven't received a phone call and starting to get a bit uptight about it all truth be told. Still hoping for a wee stroke of luck...

Meanwhile, I have applied for another three jobs - Environmental Analyst on the West Coast, Campaigns Officer for Waste Aware Scotland in Stirling and about to apply for a job with the JNCC as a Offshore Industry Advisor in Aberdeen which sounds ridiculously interesting. Going to fire off an application for that in the next couple of weeks.

I've got an interview for the Environmental Analyst post on the West Coast. Not sure if I would go for it but the advert didn't provide too much information so at the very least I will be going to find out some more about the post and brush up on the old interview techniques.
