The forum could continue, but would be heavily monitored by "the regime", who would plant their own spies and keep close tabs on anyone who doesn't toe the party line. No change there then!

Ever wondered why various posters have just disappeared without trace? :P

Good post Scotty. I really dont understand America at all. They try and create order in countries where there is none. They try to create democratic nations in Iraq ect. Yet Communism is banned in America. That is not Democracy.

I would highly recommened Che Geuvara: A revolutionary Life to anyone. Reading it, you can really see the corruption that the US spreads throughout Southern America. Or how much they did during the mid-1900's. Its shocking when you think how great the US try to act, though reading this book, it shows how America exploited most poor countries in Southern America and how many Facist Leaders they helped into, and stay in power.

Before criticising other countries for their foreign policy you should possibly read up on the history of our own nations treatment of foreign countries and their indiginous populations.

I know how descracefull Britain is. I am not a Unionist and am very critical of Britain. Though i know if i had said that i would have been slated even more.

I was just pointing out that we have a colourful past ourselves. As have France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, in fact if you go back through history most countries have had an unjust war and/or oppressed/exploited another. We are all as bad as each other.

How would your society address that.

In his utopian society you'd only be paid ?3k per annum, the same as everyone else, you greedy capitalist pig.

You would queue for hours with them to buy bread and potatoes with it, before returning to your state owned flat which only has water and electricity at certain times of day. You would then sit down in front of your black and white television to watch a state controlled channel telling you how wonderful everything is, followed by a documentary celebrating the glorious revolution. Every night.

My wife grew up during communist times in Romania when the evil Mr Ceausescu and his equally if not more evil wife were in power, it really was tough times and something I don't even think we can imagine how bad it was.

And do you have to mock everything i say? Its rather petty.

Thats the problem. Because it failed big time in Russia, and thats how they ran things, does not mean thats how it would be in every country that took Communism under its wing. Cuba doesn't even nearly have the same problems that Russia did. The only reason Cuba is not very rich is because they refuse to bow down to the US. Put it this way, if the US collapsed, we would collapse as in reality, they keep us going. The Soviet Union collapsed, so Cuba did also.

Dornoch Caley, I don't agree with much of what you say but I admire you for saying it in the first place and continuing to argue your case despite some rather unfairly worded criticism.

There's a quote which I can't quite remember but it goes something like "All that is required for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing". If people don't take an interest in politics then we get the politicians we deserve. What we need in this country is more youngsters like you taking an interest in politics and questioning the status quo. The more people who take an interest, the more those in power will be forced to be accountable for their actions. and we will get better, fairer government as a result.

Good on yer.

Yes, I think the Ceaucescu era in Romania was well to the bad side of evil and they both richly deserved what they got in front of the world's TV cameras. Romania was probably among the worst of the post war Communist dictatorships and possibly verging on what things were like during Stalin's almost 30 years of terror in the Soviet Union.

Indeed Romania possibly epitomises the bizarre twist which European politics took between the 1930s and the end of the 1980s.

We went to war in September 1939 in principle to support Poland. In doing so, we faced up to and eventually contributed to the defeat of a vile German dictatorship. But also during that process, we actually jumped into bed with Stalin who was arguably a good deal worse than Hitler was, even though his PR in this country during the war the the "Good Old Uncle Jo" image. Then when the war finished, OK the likes of France, Denmark, Norway, Holland, Belgium etc were liberated but at the expense of Eastern European countries like Romania, East Germany, Hungary, Czechoslovakia and - ironically - Poland being cast under the Communist yoke. Was Europe a lot further on at this point?

That, of course, was until the Wall came down etc in the late 1980s, so arguably the Cold War was merely an extension of World War 2 and the entire process wasn't won until that point.

A decade after that, of course, there came George W Bush......

Doesn't that just prove that democracy doesn't work. Anyone could be voted in these days - even me! BTW - how much of your wages was it you would have to give to those poor and needy in this new socialist utopia?

Who, along with Tony Blair should be on trial for war crimes committed over and during the war in Iraq.....

Meanwhile he gets to give evidence in the latest whitewashed enquiry into that attrocity in private.

The law is an ass.....

Must be coming up for the 20th anniversary of their execution. Christmas Day wasn't it?

Meanwhile, we now have another evil Romanian condemning ICT to a life of poverty.

I remember a story doing the rounds at the time of that execution.....

When Ceausescu and his wife(Elena) were dragged out to face the firing squad, she starts screaming abuse at them, calling them murderous barstards, etc, only to be interupted by her husband who told her to shut up, and that she'd only make matters worse!

Many moons ago I was a member of the Mock United Nations conference from Highland schools, and as South Africa, we got a resolution passed. I was 17 at the time, and was completely out of my depth, and spent most of the two hours thinking about how i'd have to climb the hill when i got home to clear leaves away from the water filter we had.

Dornoch Caley - you are well ahead of the game, good for you.
