Matchday Thread: ICT -V- Aberdeen

Probably the most satisfying scalp for me in the SPL. Aberdeen fans THINK they are a big club and they EXPECT to win games, all because of a few years of sucsess back in the first half of the 80's

Fantastic game and result, everybody had a good game (for us) and so did the ref! Aberdeen were just plain terrible at the back hoofing the ball out of the park ASAP.

Paton got what he deserved and IMO should get a longer ban than a normal straight red.

Hopefully we can get three wins on the trot after the breakictscarf.gif

Delighted I have finally seen us beat Aberdeen

Comfortable win in the end but let's face it Aberdeen were dire and we probably should have beaten them by more.

Will be interested to see the Paton & Tokely challenges again. Thought there man was maybe unlucky to get sent off and Tokely lucky to stay on.

Hopefully the first of many home wins :ictscarf:

A deserved win for us today. We looked a little nervous at the start of the second half but things were pretty comfortable after Rooney put us two up. I slagged our centre-halfs rotten after the Hearts defeat, but Aberdeen's backline managed to be even more hopeless.

Well done lads, it was a really great performance.

Smileymometer:

Esson    pretty comfortable game, made one good save in the first half and one in the second

Duff     Coasted through the first half, and looked comfortable in general. Cool as a cucumber

Tokely     after a tricky start he bustled Vernon out of the game. Perhaps lucky only to booked for his challenge on Megginson though

Munro    had a shaky moment late on but otherwise did fine

Shinnie     (in a Bruce Forsyth accent) didn't he do well! Showed good positional sense and got stuck in

Foran     did a good job in the centre, kept his discipline and protected the defence well

Duncan     massively up for it, and it showed. Some very important challenges in the second half

Hayes     goal was probably a fluke but he left Considine with twisted blood

Odhiambo    needs new boots - kept losing his footing like in the last home game. Worked hard and was a nuisance throughout

Ross    solid rather than spectacular, but put in a decent shift again

Rooney      My MOM today - ran himself into the ground today. Diamond and Ifil will have nightmares about him. Deserved his goal and could have had more

Aberdeen were disgusting. Bar the offside goal and one, maybe two headers, in the second half they offered up absolutely nothing for their sizeable away support to cheer.

Diamond goal was ruled out for offside apparently. I wondered if maybe it was one of these invisible fouls you see given from a corner or free kick into the box. Would need another look at it though. Hayes was enjoying his duel with Considine who was struggling to get to grips with our flying Irishman. Ross was also doing well on the other flank with Foran tucked into the middle with Duncan to stifle the Aberdeen midfield. Odihambo wondered across the front line behind Rooney and between them they all had great success in pulling the Aberdeen defence apart. Diamond and Ifil looked woeful for large parts of that game and it was no surprise that we went ahead although the manner in which we did might have been. Hayes looked to sending in a cross with his left and it rocketed into the top corner with Howard flapping at thin air (shock).

In the second half Aberdeen came more into the game and pressed us back but we still looked good on the counter. There were a couple of chances of note for Aberdeen, the best one falling to Mackie who sent a header straight at Esson from a good cross from the left. Not too long after this we doubled our lead. A thunderous kick downfield by Esson left the Aberdeen centre backs in disarray and Rooney nipped in ahead of a sluggish Howard, who took an eternity to come off his line, and lift it into the net. two up and game essentially over.

To make it even easier for us Michael Paton decided to get himself sent off. Hayes tackled him and whilst Hayes was on the ground it looked like Paton turned and kicked him whilst he was down. Murray was right on the spot to issue a red card. Tokely could also have seen red for his challenge that saw Megginson stretchered off. It was a bad challenge from behind. Hopefully the Aberdeen lad isn't too badly hurt. Hayes, Rooney and Ross all had further chances to add to our tally but by then it looked like we were more than content with what we had.

Thoroughly deserved win over a Dons team that lacked pretty much everything you need to win a football game.

We were caught napping for the disallowed goal and I think it did us a favour by giving us an early wake up call. From there on in we barely put a foot wrong anywhere on the park and Aberdeen never really looked like they were going to cause us too many problems....apart from the "clogger" tactics which ultimately backfired on them and should have seen a few more cards being shown.

Our back four look a lot more settled and happy alongside each other today and some beautiful link-up play out wide with the young lads Shinnie and Ross working well together and pushing us up the field regularly. Duff didn't pus forward so much, but no issue with that as it meant we were never going to get caught short at the back...especially with Duncan playing just in front of the back four and having a great game (one of my contenders for MotM). Munro and Tokely were solid, winning nearly everything in the air and dealing with whatever threatened around the area.

Foran commanded the middle of the pitch with Odhiambo picking up the ball from his efforts and proving to be an effective link in getting the ball forward and supporting Rooney.

Every time we went forward today I thought we were looking like we could create something and it wouldn't have taken much for us to have put 4 goals up on the board.

If we can perform like that with "key" players out injured then things can only get better in the weeks to come. Some might see the International break as a good thing to allow us to get these players back but I would have preferred a chance to keep the momentum going.

Special mention also to the Twelfth Man today....plenty of singing and chanting from start to finish. Just goes to show that everyone can have a great time, enjoy themselves and get right behind the team without the need to take it too far or overstep the mark and piss anyone else off. I even spotted a couple of the usual "Grumpy Old Men" standing and cheering on the team with everyone else this afternoon!!!

That was as comfortable a win as we'll get all season. Just how dire were Aberdeen?? That's not to take anything away from us, but that's by far the worst Dons team I've seen.

Apart from a brief flurry by them after the break, we were in total control, and could've won by more.

The defence was solid, Munro had his best game in an age. Thought both Shinnie, and Duff were outstanding.

Duncan showed why he's needed in the middle, and if it's between him and Cox for that midfield spot, then there's only one winner imo.

Not sure how Foran got MOTM, not that he didn't play well. But Hayes was superb, and Considine will be having a few nightmares about him for a while.

Great win, and not before time we beat them at home.

McGhee what a numpty. Blaming the number of players he has out today for the defeat. Have plenty of players to match us. Sick of hearing him moaning about it, turned of radio.

Had to laugh said he had no strikers against Rangers last week. He had Mackie, MacGuire, and Vernon on the pitch. Good enough to match anyone apart from the old firm. Hope they get relegated!

Big club in name only.

I actually feel sorry for the Aberdeen fans with him in charge. I'm sure he also said Diamond and Scotland cap in the same sentence.

The Aberdeen defenders soiled their shorts every time Hayes , Rooney and Eric ran at them and he can count himself lucky it was only 2.0.

Odi, Hayes , Rooney, Foran and Ross, the ICT Pentagon.!

McGhee was constantly slagging off his players last season. Looked how that worked for him? Why would the ones today want to play for him when his attitude is of one that basically says they're only in because there's no-one else. That may be true but I don't think another manager would say it. His man management is extremely poor as is his relationship with supporters. I'd hate Mr Negative to be in charge of my club. The Dons never knew how lucky they were to have Calderwood. Top 6 and Europe every year instead of the struggle with relegation before and after his reign.

Dons have a history of making bad decisions, and as you say sacking Tangoman was one of them. McGhee sounded like a right dick on the radio and his form is sackable, but it is still early in the season. If they are still underperforming by Xmas, he would get himself and evening express on Friday.

I have no faults with anyone today, great performances throughout and a couple of great, if strange, goals. Have you ever seen a slower one than Rooney's?

Best performances for me were Duncan, who was well up for it, and Eric, who hasn't had a duff game all season. They are building some momentum now, I hope the week off doesn't break it. Europe here we come.

Don't know how we won it, we were well lucky.........just kidding ha ha.

We were absolutely awesome. Apart from the 1st minute goal that was disallowed we controlled almost the entire game. Every player played his part today and it clearly showed that Aberdeen were quite happy to allow us to do so, i found it quite shocking really.

Jonny's majestic shot(cross) was well deserved as the time went on were where attacking more and more and possibly could've added more in the 2nd half.

2nd half we picked up almost where we left off, soaked up a brief bit of pressure before doubling our lead. Rooneys shot took an absolute age to go in. Morrison and Blumenshtein were warming up at the time, their reactions were priceless.

IMO Paton's red card was an easy decision. Jonny tackled him and he turnED round and booted him and even if he didnt make contact you cannot show that kind of intent at all.

Was terrific to see all 4 of our young starlets on the pitch at once. The future of our team is looking very bright.

Overall an afternoon that could not have been much more perfect. And with more of the injured boys returning after then international break i can only see us getting better.

Listening to McGhee after the game. Was too busy lamenting injuries and how rubbish he thinks his players are. Such a miserable git.

Fab match, sweet result (well worth the wait), a joy to watch - need I go on?? I had a tear in my eye listening to poor Mark McGhee on the radio afterwards - don't know how he managed to drag himself up here with so many injured players and so little talent to choose from. Poor soul! What a gurny wee sh.te he is - the poor interviewer probably had no idea what he was letting himself in for.

An absolute plethora of excuses for his side getting humped by us - no mention of course of the fact that we had one or 2 injury problems ourselves??? Also the fact that we had some young boys in the squad who, I might add, played some stonkin football. Oh how his interview made me laugh - go back to sucking lemons all week you miserable git! Well done ICT boys - you did us proud yet again and sooooo deserved it. :ictscarf:

Excellent result and first class performance. Aberdeen looked as poor as any of the teams we played at the lower end of Div 1 last season. So comfortable were the team on the ball that there was even a chance for a wee bit of showboating. Great too to see five players on the pitch who have come through the ICT youth system.

Full marks to the police, stewards and the club for letting our singing section stand throughout the game. It's the only way we will get some atmosphere in to the stadium again. The previous heavy-handed approach was a PR disaster for the club which antagonised many fans. Good to see common sense prevail. May it continue.

Heard a loud noise of bleating from the A9 on the way in to the stadium. Was it a lorry load of sheep - or an Aberdeen supporters' bus?

Having watched it on Alba, I think the red card was harsh - certainly looks more like a tangle of legs than a stamp. Not that I'm complaining.

Yeh, I'm inclined to agree with that. Looks dreadful from one angle and not so bad from the other. Rosscoe was lucky to stay on, though.

M4TJ thinks he saw Ifil in some 70's porn film, or was he the sixth member of the Jackson 5?
