Hey everyone, me and a friend have launched an online petition to abolish the 12 o clock curfew in Inverness. As you all already know, the curfew is a real nusiance to almost everyone who goes out in the city, aswell as hindering business opportunity and tourism.

We are going to make a real push with this campaign to put maximum public pressure on the council to scrap the curfew, we already have over 1600 people that joined our facebook page and on the 1st day of the petition (yesterday) we already had nearly 400 signatures. We are also planning lots of events in the new year with things like comedy, live bands and dj sets with any profits made going to charity.

Please sign the petition and show your support for inverness nightlife, live music/events and business http://www.petitiononline.com/INVCURFW/petition.html

also if you have facebook you can join the group and keep up to date with any advancements http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=126182506915

Thanks for your time!

Ashley Payne :)

Is the curfew not in place to restrict the movement of pi55heads, reduce flashpoints and thereby help the police? Look at other "cities" where there is a concentration of pubs/clubs, the police are always dealing with the dark side of alcohol.

BTW no curfew in Forres. :nanananana:

I don't reckon that many tourists would that aghast at finding out the curfews in place tbh. I get your point though but also why many see it as a good idea. An old school pal who was visiting recently seemed to think it was a good idea. He works in the licensed trade down south. Says it can be bedlam some nights

When I lived in Sussex they experimented with 24 hour licenses, about a dozen clubs took them up.

Obviously for the first week it was chaos but as regular punters got used to the freedom, the police found there was alot less binge drinking and thus an awful lot less violence. The bars themselves actually took less money than they did with the curfews, people were leaving clubs between 1-5am with no pressures being put on the chip shops or taxi's, again decreasing possible congregating points for trouble.

The flashpoints you see around the country at closing time are always in small market towns like Inverness, competition demands that each bar has to squeeze the maximum amount they can out of folk on a Friday/Saturday night, which of course leads to everybody spilling out onto the streets at the same time.

Its a human thing, people generally work better to deadlines and targets even if they arent especially hard working.. the same mechanism drives people to push their drinking a little further than they really need too when theyre told "YOU CANNOT BUY ALCOHOL AFTER X O'CLOCK".

Humans are fairly simple creatures. A homeless person would probably get more money from passers by if they held a sign up saying 'NO MORE THAN ?10 PER PERSON', than simply asking for some change

If the curfew goes, people will drink less over a longer period of time, life would be easier for those working in the town center and the police.

I agree with Clacher - if you go somewhere in continental Europe then people can usually drink, more slowly, untii they've had enough and get tired and naturally want to go to bed. Less congregating around the stations, taxi ranks, food places and everyone just gets home at their own pace more peacefully.

Don't expect common sense from the council. Some of them actually want to make all pubs and clubs CLOSE at midnight. Until more liberal minded folks decide to stand for the council these Bible bashing killjoys will continue to impose their will upon us. As long as they are in power Inverness will always have a curfew, only have a handfull of premises with a late liscence, never have a casino etc. The best thing you could do would be to research which councillers are FOR the curfew and which are AGAINST then name and shame on your facebook before the election.
