ICT -V- Dunfermline : Matchday Thread

We were not at the game - I am shure that some of the loyal attenders will inform us that there was more of a sense of togetherness and that the display and the tactics were nowhere near as bad as we suspect. Tade was made MOM and that must suggest that he has been developing his finishing skills at training.

Those who didn't go to the game should not be deceived by the scoreline. This was a game that Dunfermline should have won at a canter, and would have done had it not been for some shoddy finishing, another epic Ryan Esson effort (it's depressing how often we say that) and for some good luck when Burns hit the post.

Apart from Esson, compliments should go out to the tireless Tade, and to David Davis, who put in a wonderful effort in central midfield.

As for the rest...well, they can all get stuffed, frankly. Huge, huge question marks hang over the management's decision to stick with the same XI who were an utter embarrassment at McDiarmid Park last week. Yet again, McKay, Sutherland, Cox, Chippendale and Gillet sat on the bench, and Golobart was put out to pasture. We ended the game today with a centre-back at right back (Meekings), two right backs in central defence (Proctor and Tokely) and a central midfielder (Tansey) floundering like a fish out of water on the right flank. No wonder we were a mess. Meanwhile, our esteemed captain did take a brief break from standing around looking fed up and blaming his teammates for all his mistakes in order to set up a goal, but otherwise Foran was a complete waste-of-space again.

And hopefully Butcher and Malpas crucified Proctor after the game - for god's sake, if you know you're going to have to hack the guy to save a potential goal, at least do it outside the box. He's got enough experience to know that. Proc was a complete liability all day - he kept following Dunfermline's lone striker whenever he dropped deep, leaving a great big hole for midfield players to run into. But is it Proctor's fault that a deluded manager keeps playing him in a position that doesn't suit him? Admittedly, the only position that suits Proctor is left-back-in-the-dressing-room.

There is a huge staleness to the team right now. They need new ideas desperately - this current tactical set up, with these players, absolutely does not work. I still have confidence that Butcher and Malpas can bring these new ideas to the table, but my faith in them is really starting to be tested.

Our next four fixtures are a sobering prospect - Motherwell (H), Kilmarnock (A), Celtic (H), Hearts (A). There is every chance we will lose all four and be cut adrift at the bottom by November.

That is actually surprsing coming from you but doesnt surprise me. Dear me - Esson is expected - Davis is going and Tade - god bless him - is becoming a saviour but he doesnt know his best position and neither do Terry and Mo !!

That was really awful. We were very fortunate to get even a point, and it'd been daylight robbery if Dunfermline had got nothing from that game. Their passing and movement was far better than ours. If it hadn't been for a couple of outstanding Esson saves they'd have won.

Hard to pick anyone out for passmarks really. Esson and Davis....that's about it. As for Proctor...I actually thought he'd played ok. But the penalty, well...it was so obvious what was coming. A stupid tackle to attempt, there was only ever going to be one outcome.

We really need to freshen the team up and give some others a chance. Otherwise we're going to be staring at a widening gap between us and whoever's in 11th.

Tade, Esson, A Shinnie and our 3 substitutes all played well. Everyone else was either terrible or anonymous. Piemayr, Foran and Tansey all need to be dropped next week. Just not good enough. End of. I suggest...

1) Meekins in for Piemayr.

2) Sutherland in for Foran.

3) Ross in for Tansey in centre midfield and Gillet filling in on the left flank.

It ain't working Butcher, you gotta change it man.

OH DEAR OH DEAR OH DEAR.

WHAT A DISPLAY.

dunfermline should have been 4-0 up before we scored with our first real attack.

missed a sitter, hit post and ball runs along goal line, shot from 10 yards straight at esson to tip over when either side of him would have been a cert goal

against a team we hope will be below us at end of season we were p1sh.

they seemed to have the ball a lot more than us. our inability to hold it for more than a couple of passes wont have helped

tade runs about all day, wins balls off defenders but there is no end product. he gets played in by shinnie in first half. instead of heading for goal a pathetic first touch takes him towards touchline instead. the guy is a donkey.

late on we are under the cosh in our box, ball falls to foran and two players make the break to his right. all it needs is a pass to one of them about 10 yards away and we are away. he hit one the players in the back and dunfermline get possesion in a dangerous position.

ross and shinnie are too similar and when ross is then played wide he is totally ineffective.

we do not have players who can even do the basics properly. we cannot retain ball for more than a couple of passes before conceding possesion.

the front 2 are hopeless at holding the ball up waiting for support.

winning 1-0 tel takes on a right back, a holding midfielder and another donkey striker. but then that is the only players we have what else can he do.

dont pretend i know much about tactics. but we are missing doran and hayes. two players you can give the ball to and they will run at defenders turning defence to attack.

even if they trip over the ball in the opponents half at least they have taken pressure off back 4.

i thought he might have taken off the ineffective ross and replaced him with chippendale, someone in the hayes, doran mould to give us an " out ball".

watching the players shootin before the game it was the same old rubbish, hitting carpark, back row of north stand or corner flag. except for mackay, he had 4 shots scored with 3 and one saved by tuffey.

the boy can hit the target. come on tel he cant be any worse than the 2 donkeys we play up front. can he ??

only positive for me today was meekings. he looked decent at right back and the big plus is that he can take a throw in without waiting 10 minutes to throw the ball.

he also can throw a fair distance wich will be an asset when in our own half as we always loose possesion to other teams from our throwins

we all talk about our injuries this season and that we will be a better team when all are fully fit.

have we a 20 goal a season striker injured at moment that i dont know about or are we still going to struggle to score even when all players are back.

last point, when i saw it was proctor chasing the dunferline player on a break ==== after we cheaply conceded decent possion in their box ==== i said penalty coming.

boy i wish i had got that one wrong

thought next season we were going to get the highland derby back.

the way we and county are playing we will be passing each other, county on way up and us on way down to 1st division

Dunfermline should have won easily but dont let that fool anyone that they're a good team. They were utter garbage as well, but far superior to us. Today was Brewster-esque football. To many players completely anonymous, Tansey, Nick Ross (going backwards as a player) and Proctor (will he ever learn to foul outside the box). Andrew Shinnie and Davis did well, but Davis is away in January so god help us!! To be fair I thought Rosscoe was really good too.

If we don't improve in the next few weeks we are going down, absolutley no question. Totally disjointed, totally unorganised we look a total shambles!

Getting fed up of people with their love for Grant Munro and how he is what we are missing. He was a poor leader, below average overall defender and not good enough for the SPL. Today i thought Proctor played ok had to make the tackle, shame it wasn't made outside the box, but doesn't deserve the pelters he is getting today. Richie Foran was the worst player on the park today and has been like that all season, for him to come up to the fans after todays performance and tell us to keep our heads up is a joke! ill start to keep my head up when the team pulls their fingers out and start looking like they give a F**k!

Just back in the house from the game and the word that sums up that performance - PATHETIC!!!!

It never ceases to amaze me how many internet fans this club seems to have yet they all come on here spouting their expert opinions on these match threads every week without fail, my advice to them would be try attending the games that way we will take you and your posts more seriously

Lets put it into perspective we were simply outclassed by a mediocre Dunfermline team today, they played well and passed well but that was because we let them, If it hadn't been for Ryan Essen we would not have escaped with a point

I am now starting to question Terry and Mo's motivational skills and I unfortunately can see the start of a Sydney or Brentford scenario starting

Lets do first things first, that was awful - really really terrible. How ICT escaped with a draw from that is one of the great mysteries of life as the Pars could have won that by three or four goals - and no-one could say they didn't deserve it. Lets first talk about the manager - I believe when the players and fans look towards the dugout they need to believe in who's there and it certainly doesn't look like they do, I know I certainly don't. It was evident from the beginning that they didn't seem up for it, as the feeling permeated the stadium that something was a-miss.

Tactically, it was awful. Long hoof, after long hoof, after long hoof. Dismal dismal style there - no ideas, no nothing. What was the deal with that formation? It was just bizarre. When has Nick Ross ever been a winger? He was rubbish today. Proctor was appalling as well. How anyone, particularly an ex-England centre-half can say that Munro wouldn't have been as good there as Proctor was today is astonishing! They must have an IQ that struggles to reach 15! And Tansey.......I have no idea what he was supposed to be doing today and evidently neither did he.

Butcher seems to have good rid of good team players who really wanted to be here in Munro and Duncan and has replaced them with medicore nobodies, some of whom won't even be here come 2012 and it certainly showed - far too many passengers. Butcher needs to stop picking his favourites every time as well - Foran, Proctor and Ross are not undroppable.

And then we have Foran. He was utterly utterly abysmal. Just all round useless. Apart from his cross for the goal, his touch was poor, his tackling was poor, his passing was dreadful and zero leadership from the captain whatsoever. Only Tade, Esson, Davis and maybe at times Andrew Shinnie really seemed to have some idea at what the were doing out there. Tokely of course was as usual his steady self. And what's the deal with these stupid short corners. Every single time it was silly short corner after another silly short corner. Did it work? Of course not.

I'm now scared that it really could be Armageddon 2012 for ICT. Say what you like about luck, officials and all the rest but you get what you deserve in the end. And if the unthinkable is possible if things don't change - and change fast.

You feel we're not missing a solid, reliable and committed centre half? GM not good enough for the SPL, but how many seasons has he played there? Shame Proctors tackle was in the box - PMSL thats a bit like shooting someone in the head with a gun and then in court claiming I never did anything wrong it's just a shame his head was in the way! :rotflmao:.

Foran played a poor game (not for the first time this season) although to be fair he set up the goal. But he's not the only one under performing, not by a long shot and that includes the management teams as they have brought these players in. I felt Foran was only clapping at the end and thanking the fans for sticking with the team, at least that's what I saw. People would be moaning if he just walked straight off saying that 'he isn't showing the loyals fans any gratitude' so he's damned either way.

Never mind all will be well when- We start to gell, get injured players back, find the system that works for us, play a passing game etc etc. Not to mention the stability brought from giving TB & MM the contract extensions so early, that will hopefully kick in soon too. :slapme:

If we were in 6th position and ONLY 4 points above the bottom side it wouldnt make that a huge difference to the grand scheme of things - so yes we can grumble & criticise individuals - yes we are still only 4 points off the top 6 unbelievable, so

its showing so far any of the bottom 7 are still scrambling for consistency not just us - also 1st time for Meekings & Cox so some positives !

theres been games where we should of been 3-4 up this season and havnt scored any im just happy dunfermline now know what its like to be us.

i think butcher wanted a reaction from the players that were poor against st johnstone and didnt get it the players with the exception of tade, esson, davis and andy shinnie (at times) didnt do that.

the centre back pearing of tokely seem to have some sort of understanding but make to many mistakes

piermayr-wasnt good enough we were more dangerous on the right flank when meekings came on

tansey-has had to play out of position again what were we playing a 4-4-2 diamond ??

foran- at least he wasnt whining and moaning at everyone today he set up the goal but tade is showing him up at the minute

G.shinnie- was suspect for the second game in a row i think hed be better off wide left of the midfeild and putting gillet in at left back.

time for changes is now butchers had 3 games to asses this starting 11 and who its suiting and who it isnt

on the plus side i look forward to seeing how meekings gets on against nicky law or jamie murphy next week

Cant really sat much more that hasnt been said already. Dunfermline should have been gone by the time Tade hit the back of the net. Defensively we look more lost than the dark days of Djebi-Zadi and Phil McGuire, we're feckin useless there right now.

Esson deserves credit, he did what he could to organise and made some terrific saves to keep us in the game, at half time he look very discontent with our display...get a feeling any new offer he is given will be rebuffed. Also plaudits to Tade and Davis who both gave tireless displays.

2nd half started with an improved display, Tade, Ross and Davis all coming fairly close but at the same time there were moments where Dunfermline looked threatening, paticuarly on the left hand side with Piermayr carrying a booking. Thought young Meekings looked solid when he came on, settled into the game very quickly and made a terrific challenge on Cardle towards the end who was looking to shoot.

No qualms about the penalty, more dire defending, G. Shinnie not getting back quick enough and Proctor being far too rash in the challenge, didnt have to be made and was executed poorly.

I symapthise with Richie Foran, he had a poor game today i agree, despite setting up the goal but the booing directed at him at full time for acknowledging our support i felt was out of order, imo he shouldve gone instead of Tade, Foran was done after about an hour. I get the feeling that many showed up today just waiting to jump on the backs of players...i know folks get frustrated but it dosent help, especially against such a young team which we are now.

I am really disappointed after today's game. I don't understand why Butcher played te same team who were so pisspoor last week. Chippendale did well when he came on last week - did he get a chance this week? No. Why not? What does a player have to do to get picked? Not much obviously from the line up today.

Foran is obviously not fit - he needs a couple of weeks rest. And I say that as a big Richie Foran fan. At his best he is a great captain and gives 110% but he just hasn't managed that for quite a few games now.

Good to see Cox back and Meekings played well. so some positives.

All Butcher needs to do is get the players to put in the same amount of effort as Tade. Sorted.

Haven't given up hope yet of us staying in SPL. But it ain't easy staying positive sometimes.

Negativity abounds on this forum, Wise up guys We've not been cast adrift at the bottom YET!!!!. We didn't have a great game today Esson was our saviour and we could have easily lost, rosscoe was solid if not spectacular and most of the others seem to be playing with a lack of belief and confidence.

However at this point of the season with such a long way to go we need to be getting bbehind the players and not lambasting them with some of the crap that is being dished out at the ground. Yeah so what if Richie was asking us to keep our chins up at the end of the game, would you prefer it if he shyed away from us collected his wages and pi$$ed off home. I am sure the players themselves are hoping for better things and this is still way beyond what most of us 'oldies' could have dreamt off in those days back in the 70's when the jags got refused league entry. Anyhow let's get behind the team, we've had worse performances than today by a country mile, I remember games with just over a thousand playing Brechin and the likes and going home frozen stiff and dreaming for 'BIG' games like the spl, As you can tell I've had quite a few beers since the game and some JD and coke but let's enjoy the ride and stick with our beloved ICT

Onwards and Upwards.

OH INVERNESS...............................................................

well first game this season and thought i would share my thoughts

was not overly impressed to me honest.

the team looked to be significantly lacking in pace on several occasions

they seemed to be heading to the bad old days of not wanting to take a shot

we seem to like playing dangerous and not clearing danger when it arises

good points though :-

meekings getting game time

cox getting game time

Tade scoring a pretty nice goal

Esson having another good game

also enjoyed the half time exhibition match and thought the guys from RAF Lossiemouth did pretty well

Agree with most of the comments. We were mince and fully deserved to get a hammering. Few mentions though for Tokely today. He had a very good game and even handled that little pain in the a*se Buchanan well after he came on. How many times has he haunted us through the leagues!

If Proctor and Tok are all we have then it is up to the midfield to protect them more than they did today. And we need 6 points out of the next 12 available or we surely will be adrift.
