Warning System

I split this off into its own topic as it is worthy of one .... it may give others a bit of an understanding too.

We have rules (obviously) and if you break them, then you may get a warning. A link to the rules is at the bottom of every page on the forum and if you havent read them (even though you agreed to them when you signed up) then section 2 answers most of your question..

The rules were simplified a year ago to a single "common sense" page of "golden rules" suggested by one of our users. Instead of trying to cover every possible eventuality that has occurred over the 18 year lifespan of this site, we put the onus on users to know right and wrong - lets face it, most know when something they post is dodgy, inflammatory, or abusive !

The mods deal with rule breaches on a case by case basis. sometimes this will be at their own initiative when they spot something, at other times it will be as a result of a complaint from someone who has clicked the report button on a post. Some of the more common infractions have an automatic warning point level (shown below) ... whereas others (especially reported content) will be discussed by the mods and a decision made.

These are the automatic warnings, with the number of points shown. Points are not permanent, they expire after 2 weeks so unless you are really trying to get yourself banned, its normally difficult to accidentally go over the top on the points system !!!

0      First Offence
1      Signature Violation
1      Inappropriate Language
1      Verbal Abuse
1      Flaming
1      Trolling
2      Aggressive Behaviour
5      Topic Hijacking
5      Illegal Content
5      Spamming
5      Copyright Infringement

these are the actions applied automatically when you reach a certain total of points

10     1 day post ban (can still view site)
15     2 day post ban (can still view site)
20     1 day mod queue
25     7 day mod queue
30     1 day suspension
40     7 day suspension
50     Account permanently suspended

Users can see how many warning points they have underneath their avatar. It will show the group you are in (eg Full Members), how many posts made (33 in your case) and then how many warning points you have (0 for you). Many people think that because they see the words "warning points" under their own profile but not under anyone else's that it means they have had a warning ... not true, it is just that you can only see your own points, not the points of anyone else. if it says 0 you have not received a warning (or if you have it has expired) !!!

think that about covers it .......
