Poor defender with almost no positional sense and prone to errors. Massively underwhelmed by this but if he does sign hopefully Warren and Meekings stay fit.

Hope you're wrong with your assessment RiG!

I would have thought the club might have had a look at Scott Boyd as possible cover.  He's a decent enough defender and is being squeezed out over the bridge.  Would be more than competent cover in my view and would be certainly fit into our budget.

Saints fans are pretty disappointing he's left judging by some of the comments on twitter. We can't ask for much better as back up now that McNaughton is injured. He's still a young centre half and has all the tools to go on to be a good defender. He's also has a fantastic attitude towards learning his trade (I know from my time working at the Hearts academy when he was still with the under 20s), so hopefully Warren can take him under his wing and teach him a thing or two.

Sounds like he just needs taken under the wing, something the CT boys do very well. He could turn out to be a very good investment and asset to the team assuming we do get him that is! Would certainly rather take a risk on Brad than that dork Gunning,  that's for sure

Here are some quotes from Saint Johnstone fans on P & B:

Quote

No great loss if he is gone, the third goal we conceded against Celtic sums him up

Cue general outrage from St. Johnstone supporters on social media.

In reality, Brad is a below-par defender. The timing is a bit of a shame. He had looked marginally better during the last few matches and made a wee breakthrough of sorts. Having said that, I won't lose any sleep over this.

Jeezo he's been made out on Facebook as an absolute baller by our moronic support. He's shite.

The one time I seen McKay play this season in the second half against hearts, as a defender he was all over the shop (IMO). Not doubting that he would get more goals than most defenders but first and foremost he's judged on his ability to defend and I was never convinced. Granted I don't know what's going on behind the scenes and whether there's more to this than face value but in footballing terms I'm not fussed he's gone. We just need our first choice back 4 fit and he wouldn't even make the bench.

I always felt Brad needed to be playing regularly alongside an experienced centre half that will talk him through the game. He never got that at Hearts due to our Administration event and hasn't been able to force his way into the Saints team unfortunately. Shame as I think he'd be a decent player at Premiership level.......eventually.

Watching McKay at CH is like watching a Labrador at CH. No loss whatsoever.

Sadly, I just think he might not be good enough for this level - I'd love him to prove us wrong - he's some fucking boy.

I felt the same watching him at Dunfermline, defensively he looked out his depth even at league one level, he did look confident on the ball and good enough physically seemed capable of being in midfield. (actually a Pars fan)

Judging by some of those comments he could go on to be a good defender given the right guidance. I saw him play more than once at Hearts and I always though he was decent. We're pretty good at developing players who were seen as below par at their previous clubs, numerous examples of that. I'd prefer Devine as back up but he obviously wasn't prepared to be a bit part player, so McKay will do instead.

Not the signing I was hoping for when I saw we'd got B.McKay............Billy or Barry never even considered Brad. Probably a sign that we spent our budget for a senior player on MacNaughton who now injured is a wage bill burden so most likely only have enough left to gamble on someone less proven and cheaper.

Quite a few rumour circulating again around guys in my work with reliable contacts inside Pittodrie (a guys brother-in law is best mates with Barry Robson so they frequently all drink together) that given the poor result against Celtic the board are ready to back Del with some money for some strengthening of midfield and apparently both Draper and Tansey are high on the list again.

I'd be surprised if Tansey isn't an Aberdeen player by next summer but a lot of folk have always said the player they really need is a Draper character. A big horrible b@st@rd in the middle of the pitch to just destroy everything. I'd rather lose Tansey than Draper especially right now.

If they want Draper and Tansey I want to see at least a £1 million up front :tongueincheek:

Aberdeen cannot pay any sizable fee upfront. They have money but not large sums and will want to pay any transfer in instalments and this can be a get out clause if we really want to keep anyone they come asking about. Aberdeen fans seem to think they are in for Jamie Ness and are doubtful about the club dealing with ICT because of the upfront costs.

MacKay-Steven might be let go, possibly on loan, from Celtic. As a North of Scotland lad who originally wanted to join us, but Butcher turned him down, we should try our best to grab him.

Seems unlikely based on this although there are no comments from the player or managers.

Hopefully no interest will be shown for Boyd. No pace and not a great defender in my opinion.

Boyd will hang on, its his testimonial year, why miss a decent pay day?

Kevin McNaughton is due one in 2017 for Cardiff City and Grant Munro had his whilst playing for County.

Adding 2 + 2 together and making 5 maybe but I see Balatoni has left Killie, could he be a possible signing target or is Brad Mackay a done deal?

Also reading this guy is being made available for loan. A bit injury prone but could be worth a punt?? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37218234 :tongueincheek:

Balatoni is off to Ayr apparently. Think I'd rather take a punt on him than Brad McKay though to be honest.

we are a fickle bunch aren't we? we **** and moan that the board doesn't tie up players onto long-term deals so that we don't lose them for free, then when we have a chance of making some money off of a transfer, we don't want to let go! the likes of Tansey, Drapes and Meekings etc. will start to get very expensive in terms of wages when renegotiating; i suspect that the board will have to make the tough decisions about when it's best to cash in or see if we can sustain the wages long term....hmmm...if only it was as simple as ChampMan!
