He hasn't a proven record at this level, although he played for us it doesn't necessarily make him a good candidate and we don't know who and what are his contacts regarding the quality of players he can bring in? Is this looking backwards and putting sentiment before sense as we still have a manager who regardless if some fans like him or not is still under contract.

Like Foran, a no thanks at this time for me.  Let him start at the bottom a la Paul Hartley and see how he does.  If he's a success there and the opportunity comes up some time in years to come, then we could class him as a serious candidate.

Charlie Christie,John Robertson, Brewster all cut their coaching teeth at Caley 1st team level.

(Alex Neil, Canning, Archibald, Wright, Neilson, other examples of giving untried coaches a chance at the top)

Neil and Canning are at a very different club in terms of ideals and even then managed the reserve team prior to getting the top job. Tommy Wright was the assistant and had previously managed clubs in Northern Ireland while Neilson is again in a different type of club where there's a very experienced DoF above him.
