Jimmy Calderwood was the manager at the time O'Leary was suffering from depression. Calderwood's abysmal attitude is summed up by this comment from O'Leary:

“He even held a team meeting — in front of all the players — to tell everyone that they should steer clear of me, that I would be out of the game within 18 months because my attitude was so bad.”

Don't want him anywhere near our club

One player, despite his own issues with depression made so much worse by the unsympathetic and mocking attitude of the person he should be able to turn to for support, is courageous enough to tell the truth and if that has helped put an end to a bullying manager's career then Scottish football is the better for it.

If this is true, I really don't want Jimmy Calderwood anywhere near ICT - assume this is why he hasn't been heard of for so long...

Have to agree that Jimmy Calderwood's managerial record is pretty good. The invective levelled towards him on Scottish football forums is a classic example of group think. Once you've read one P and B thread, you've read them all...
"Old-school managers are 'dinosaurs', young 'progressive' coaches are terrific!"
"There's no place for bullies in 'modern' football."
The lamentation of bullying is pretty ironic given that football fans routinely abuse players, managers and officials from the stands and on the internet.

Most young men need structure, rules and discipline imposed on them by an authority figure to keep them on track. It's just a fact of life.

Just listen to yourself. You sound like the very worst type of 1950s National Service drill sergeant. This is the twenty first century and, thankfully, most of us have a more enlightened attitude even if the likes of you and Jimmy Calderwood do not.

Absolutely - there is a difference between fans giving the team/manager/officials, etc stick & an employer bullying a member of staff, which is exactly what Jimmy Calderwood appears to have done to Ryan O'Leary. It wouldn't be acceptable in any other workplace, so why should it be in a football club? Anyone who suffered this would have a case for Constructive unfair dismissal!

Our manager is, in a lot of ways, the 'face' of the club & I certainly wouldn't want someone like Jimmy Calderwood being the face of ICT.

Has Walter Zenga applied yet?  I'm sure he applied for the Dundee job (or was it Dunfermline?) a few years back.  A checkered record as a manager, but I think I'd quite like seeing a charismatic, flamboyant Italian manage the team!

Thats what I heard, although it was originally Colin Calderwood, rather than Jimmy Calderwood - not keen on either Calderwoods...

Who interviewed them don't think Our new Chairman was around and surely a recruitment specialist like our new chairman would be the right guy for that job.

Danny Lennon did brilliantly with Cowdenbeath, getting them from the Third to the First Division on no money. I also applaud what he did at St Mirren, winning them the League Cup and got them into safety, only to be stabbed in the back and for Saints to crash to relegation without him. Poor at Alloa but overall that's a much better record than either Darren Dods* or Paul Sheerin have had.

(*although I wouldn't have much of an issue with Dods stepping up)

I understand most of the board are on holidays so maybe not this week?

Has this actually been confirmed?

I can't for the life of me imagine taking up the job as Chairman of my club, sacking the manager and then swanning off on holiday. We are such a passive fan base, it's arguably the most important period in our clubs history and we're not even sure if our board have started interviewing or not. The league cup starts in under 6 weeks and we have a grand total of 10 first team players, no manager, maybe an assistant manager (still no clue if Rice is still about?), and a vague suspicion our board aren't even in the country.

As the fans we should be demanding better communication from the cub, and withholding our money (be it on season tickets, new strips etc.) until we get it.

A club of our size will never have the perfect manager, even more so now we're in the Championship.  In saying that though, there's often one candidate that stands out over all the others but not this time.  There's obviously some that are better than others, but no-one really stands out.  I really don't fancy a return to Butcher, Danny Lennon has a mixed record but did do a good job at St Mirren - we could do worse.  I'd rather him than some clogger like Jimmy Calderwood or Gus McPherson.

There does seem to be an inevitability of Paul Sheerin though.  He'd need an experienced assistant.  Perhaps with the U20s being scrapped, Duncan Shearer will be that man.
