Old Folks' Day Out In The Sun

Recommended Posts

Just about to set out to this  -  https://www.anewdayfestival.com/schedule/saturday

Hawkwind
Caravan
Gong
Carl Palmer's ELP Legacy
Atomic Rooster
Curved Air
Peatbog Faeries
The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown
Bernie Tormé
Dr Schwamp
The Far Meadow

I shudder to think what the combined ages of all the artists must be. And I know that there are only a few original members left in those bands.

It's a l-o-n-g time since I went to a festival, but that line-up is stellar, and surely won't come together again. And the weather forecast is good 8)

No idea what the Peatbogs are doing in the middle of that lot, but they are the icing on the cake .

Get a good result in Falkirk - I'll be thinking of you.

Sounds good - Glastonbury for grandads!

A somewhat less sedate musical throwback for me tonight with Iron Maiden, 32 years since the first time I saw them.

I saw Caravan when I was at university, so that's probably about 42 years ago ?

Hope your show was as good as mine!

Great photo. I saw a review of one their earlier shows, which said that their Spitfire damn near took Nicko McBrain's head off! :hiding:

The Peatbog Faeries ensure that no-one is asleep in the Kent afternoon countryside.

Carl Palmer reminds the "Glastonbury grandads" - your description was perfect - how boring drum solos can be.

"Arthur Brown - in person!".   (Frank Zappa's last words before fleeing the stage at Montreux Casino, as described in "Smoke on the Water".)

Bringing the two gigs together, Bruce Dickinson's primary influence as a singer and performer was.....Arthur Brown!

And my picture of Arthur Brown was taken when he came out front to watch Carl Palmer - who used to be his drummer!  He (AB) is 76, and put on a really good show yesterday.

Apparently Carl is 68. The two heroes of mine who used to stop his drum solos getting too long both kicked the bucket in 2016. Greg Lake from the Big C and Keith Emerson who blew his own head off. I think he was depressed at having arthritis in his fingers which stopped him reaching some of the keys. A younger Keith would probably have incorporated some sort of head blowing off into his stage act if he had thought of it back then.
