Return of OFW

Wonder how the club will spin this - no doubt it will be his fault for not leaving due to greed of wanting to see out his legally binding contract that the club offered. Afterall that's how we dealt with Warren & Raven and tried to spin it about OFW before. I'm sure as usual though there will be some on here who see his return in the same way.

Don't see him replacing the wonderfully consistent Mark Ridgers. Hopefully, he will find a new club in January which will be good for him and good for us.

I doubt that any reasonable fan is blaming him for insisting on being paid the generous salary that we were only too happy to offer him at the time.

Undoubtedly there will be a split decision on this. The Board were at fault for the wage structure applied but some players did not play to their potential (OFW was one) and that led to relegation. Some may feel that OFW was right to see out an agreed contract. It is legally binding and you could understand him making a stand out of frustration and resentment. Some will see him as adding to the club's financial plight and choosing a jolly in the States, forsaking his potential international career. Other clubs may have been put off by his wage demands or perhaps he simply was not good enuff. If he was he would have been snapped up by a bigger club than us. Hopefully he was able to sell off a few of his paintings. Might see him on the pavements of Sneck selling his wares. Warren and Raven were let down far more IMHO but had the decency to move on. That gains Respect. ?

I doubt he'll be getting a position back here, considering we have Mark and the younger keepers. He was sent out due to wage constraints. Money is on he stays on in the States either on loan or transfer, or he'll head down south for England or Wales. It will probably be decided in January.

How much of a wage does a club pay of a player on loan?

Depends on what they negotiate with the other club. Anywhere from 0% to 100% !!

If he is going to stay in the US then he would have to shoot for a spot in MLS rather than USL as the money is simply not there in USL.

He seems to have performed pretty well in USL so if his agent is any good and sends out his CV and video highlights reel he may get a few invites to MLS training camps for January and the rest would be up to him. Cincinnati might be a good shout as they will only be entering MLS this year and the draft process allows them to pick one player from each of the other teams for their initial squad but that will leave 10+ spots left over and getting a decent keeper from the free agent list would allow them to not be forced to pick another keeper in the draft. Biggest stumbling block could be that any team picking him will have to use an "international" roster spot (ie. non-domestic) and those are coveted positions which even have trade value in MLS. Nashville FC and Miami FC are scheduled to enter MLS in 2020 so the same would apply there too and next year will also be the inaugural season for the Canadian Premier League with 8 new teams so options for staying this side of the pond are certainly increasing.

Agreed but one we can't afford.

If attendances were at 3500 we could.  The wage budget has gone from £1.6m to £600,000 (?).  1900-2000 season ticket sales about covers it.  Probably can but don't need/want to.  And come New Year we may be looking for a striker and a new midfielder....

Robbo has said he's cut £1.2 Million from the wage budget....so we're probably paying less than minimum wage these days.

No one should castigate OFW for wanting the club to stick to the terms of the contract. A contract is a contract is a contract as the saying goes.

What if the situation was on his side and ICT wanted out?  Would that justify their getting out of the contract? No. The player does have day to day expenses himself: e,g.  accommodation, food and maybe many other obligations, some of which may in turn be the subject of a contract.

The third point I would like to make is that the club is a bigger financial entity than the player and so must protect their interest by making sure the contract is fair to both parties. If not, why offer the contract to the player in the first place? If the player, also, has doubts about signing on the terms presented maybe he should have consulted with a lawyer first to protect his own interests. :ponder:

If that's the case, then the average Celtic player gets paid more than our entire squad.  Such are the inequalities of the modern game.

OFW a class keeper I'd say he edges Ridgers tbh! A warrior as well played thro back injurys when we were in the prem

Along with Tansey, Mckay, Fiasher, Storey and Draper all leaving with injuries that needed treatment at their new clubs (some are still recovering) it does ask questions about that period of the clubs history and whether there is a link between our teams sudden dip in performances and the injuries many first team players seem to have had. Whether that's management, player or physio decisions that these guys played we may never know.
