Have we improved compared to last season?

Lots of moaning on here since the defeat to Dundee utd which concluded a third of the seasons games.  Strikers are gash, Robbo needs to go as we were not improving etc  were the views of many on here. So I decided to compile a little report card to see if this would highlight areas of improvement and causes for concern.

So as you can see we have actually improved in many areas as our league position, points tally, our wins.our draws, our goals scored, the number of players getting on the scoeresheet and the number of players who have had assists have all improved compared to last year in the league.

The major cause for concern is in defence with the goals conceded which has actually gone up by 50% which in turn has led us to losing 4 games when in fact we hadnt lost any last season at this stage. One poster, think it was Satan called for new defenders, and he was lambasted but he maybe isnt that far off the mark.

Stats paint the picture you want to see...

Wins up...good

Draws down...good

Defeats  up...bad

Looks good that we have two 'improved' boxes checked but are less draws an improvement if you have lost most of those games you might have drawn?? Not really ?

A few more games into the season and the stats will need serious reworking to paint a rosy picture in our current form.

Bottom line, optimism is good but quarter season stats can turn bad quickly.

Stick to the realism...it doesn't let you down.

We have shipped 6 goals in 2 games ... a little more than cause for concern. We haven't really performed well since the financial concerns have come to light. Quite a few players taking their eyes off the game and considering the end of the season. Might be time to start giving the youngsters more game time because to be fair we can't get any worse with the current crop of jobbers.

Is robbo to blame or can we look at the backroom staff?

If I remember right when Robbo joined us the club kept on Rice (Assit Man) and Scott (1st Team Coach) was that his choice or was he told he has to work with them cause the club couldn't afford to get rid. Then Rice left us for Hamilton and Barry Wilson was added to the coaching team.

Still dont have a 'go to' player who can score when we're behind or even in a tight game and kick start a revival, too often we push hard to get back in and fall further behind.

Well I would have certainly kept the two players who have scored most goals this season  on the pitch for the latter part of Saturdays game. however the problem is we have now leaked 8 more goals in the league compared to same time last season. We have actually scored 3 more so its obvious its the defence is the problem but Robbo keeps trying to blame both areas of the pitch.

I mean blaming Toddy and Donaldson for half chances , maybe Storey should have done better but the manager seems to see half chance as glorious chances but at least we are scoring more than last season.

So as ive suggested maybe we have to have 3  centre backs at back and have cover from wingbacks to protect our back line but whatever we do we need to stop conceding so many goals.

Last season at same stage

P13 W4 D9 L0 F16 A10  21 points 4th in league

This season

P13 W6 D2 L5 F19 A18 20 points 4th in league

Its so clear that the defensive side of our game just needs to get back on track and we will be ok for playoffs

Doesn't really amount to much, but all in all, we haven't actually conceded that many goals on average...

Aye, but 7 teams below us have Rangers and Celtic putting 6 past them every week.. Our defence is the problem without a doubt. Think back to our glory years, ok 2015, we had a central defensive partnership that we could depend on 100%.  The way we are just now opposition look like scoring every time they get in our box. Also means Ridgers has to do more thinking, second guessing the numpties in front of him, and getting out of position himself. Donaldson  having a rotten season, only good thing is McKay was injured or it could have been much worse.

Whew! Really don't know where the blame should be levelled with so many conflicting opinions.

Letting a manager go in midstream could, however, be the final straw against getting promoted .

Looks as if Robbo should be allowed to stay until season's end and then the club could take  time in selecting the new Manager if thought to be needed.
