ICTFC Squad Update 21/22/23/

I wonder if Robbie is the son of Paul Deas who played for St Johnstone, Partick and County amongst others. He’s 48 so the age is about right. He was a decent left back although in the cup tie at Telford Street in 1992 he had to pay to get back in after 10cc tied him in knots.

I think Sutherland will do a good job for us. He’s a natural finisher so should be more prolific than recent strikers. Todorov may get a run in the team also and show us what he’s capable of.

I suspect Storey will continue to play wide where his pace can hurt defences. He just needs to be a bit less selfish when he has the ball and, if played up front, learn how to head it!!

I'm hoping Sutherland will be good but have reservations about him don't think Toddys the type who'll get us even double figures in the league either how bad can he be when White kept him out of the team he's got pace but would be far better utilised in his natural position thro the middle Robbo needs to get the finger out and sort the front end be like every season before under him otherwise decent defence but inability to score end result same as before no hope of winning even the play offs! Footys a simple game but without goals in your squad your going nowhere

Someone on P & B mentioned he was the nephew of Paul Deas.

No reason, just going by Robbo’s comments. As things stand, we have one player who can play right back (Mckay), four who can play centre back (Mckay, Toshney, Deas and McHattie) and row who can play left back (Harper and McHattie) so reasonable cover apart from right back.

That assumes Deas, as a left sided player, cannot play right back.

4 from 6 is good for competition but we do need a solid RB who can get up and down. 4 from 7 better fo us.

Robbo is looking for 3 more players. From today's P&J

I read that article yesterday and took from it that, a) the Midfielder signing is close and could be imminent :), b) poor Robbo has his work cut out in working out what striker he will sign, he's been given loads of options (from agents) he'll need to watch videos of, and c) the RB signing could be a few weeks away, he does not mention having anyone in mind.

On Josh Meekings, I would not say no to him, even if it's just to cover for injuries etc.

Jesus Robbo doesn't have the best track record when it comes to strikers best let somebody else look at the videos I'm no working the now! Meekings won't be back shame great player for us

Some Montrose fan geezer on P and B says we are after Scott Allardice, the ex Dundee U midfielder.

We are eyeing midfielders so hhe could be a potential signing.

He’s a defensive midfielder so quite possibly a target.

A rumour that Shaun pedalled come through

Lazy assumption based on the fact he's played predominantly as a CM - he is a replacement for Trafford.

I've looked at the club site to have a look at our squad and depth in each position and come up with a list of all players in each position so that it's easy for us to work out where needs strengthened.

GK: Mark Ridgers, Cameron Mackay and Jamie McKinnon

Defence: Lewis Toshney, Robbie Deas, Kevin McHattie, Brad Mackay and Cammy Harper

Midfield: Sean Welsh, David Carson, Aaron Doran, James Vincent, Roddy McGregor, Shane Harkness and Lewis Hyde, Scott Allardice

Forwards/Strikers: Shane Sutherland, James Keatings, Miles Storey, Nikolay Todorov and Daniel Mackay

Edited to add Scott Allardice.

Also, it's interesting to hear that Roddy MacGregor is a Midfielder or Forward, this quote from Robbo in P and J, "up front we have lots of options. We lost Tom Walsh and Jordan White but we have Roddy MacGregor, James Keatings, Aaron Doran, Miles Storey, Daniel Mackay and Nikolay Todorov. We've added Shane Sutherland, who has scored bundles of goals at lower league level, and we are hopeful he'll do the same here". He then goes on to talk about versatility being key to which is where he mentions Roddy "we have players like Keatings and MacGregor who are between Midfield players and forwards".

If that is the case, is he saying that we won't now be after another striker and RB is now his priority, again, this quote suggests that to be the case, "We have quality in Midfield and are hoping to have around 7-8 forwards we can chop and change. It should allow us to be flexible enough if we need to change formation.  If we can get a bona fide right back in, we would also have Brad McKay and Lewis Toshney who can play RB or CB. That's the sort of thing we are after".

Sorry for the number of quotes by the way lol, it would be a lot more helpful if someone could post a link to the article from the back of today's (13 August) P and J.

Devine was never anywhere near the level of Warren or Meekings in his first spell with us, and has been lousy at Partick and then Dunfermline for the last few years. I wouldn't trust him as a starter at this level at all. We now have three players - McKay, Devine and Toshney - competing to start alongside Deas in central-defence, but I wouldn't trust any of the three of them (in Toshney's case, because he is made of glass).

We didn't need another centre-back. We need a right-back. Really badly.

I think I would prefer Meekings back, but I wonder if we can afford him. TBF to Devine, he was pretty much ever present in the Partick side for two seasons whilst they were in the Premiership (and his first year they stayed up with ease), and apart from the start of the last season, seems to have been ever present at Dunfermline, so must have been doing something right. Is he that accident-prone? Because we've seem plenty of others at ICT muck up royally. As far as I'm concerned he's a pretty experienced guy, adds a bit more strength in depth and he's one of us again so gets my support. But yes we do need a Right Back, a nice speedy one, and one that can defend a bit too, otherwise we could be starting with McKay there.

Personally, I don't think it's too bad a signing if he comes at the right price. Let's not forget we are skint and bargain basement shopping. Robbo can turn an average player into a decent player. The guy has SPL experience, Scottish Cup Final experience etc - normally that comes at a price beyond that which we can afford. All in all, considering our situation, Robbo is building the makings of a good squad at a price we can afford.

I appear to be in the minority but I am quite pleased to see Danny back and believe that he can do a decent job for us at Championship level.

I'm happy with Devine back as well

I agree. He was a decent stand in when we had Meekings and Warren and has gained a lot more game time than he got when with us.

We do need a right back, though, unless the plan is Mckay with Toshney as cover, given Robbo’s comments that Toshney can fill in there. Early last season when we had to play a midfielder (Carson) there a couple of times it showed, despite his effort and passion, that we need a specialist full back.
