Thanks.  I see he did his left knee in May 2017.  6 to 9 months is the usual estimate, but I don't know when he actually came back after that.  He's five years older now, though.

It might be fortunate if any ban imposed for illegal gambling coincides with his rehabilitation period.

Hester walks free.

“Not proven” verdict, despite a reported confession to police, wads of money and all the text messages. BBC report that “the jury accepted Mr Hester's claim during the trial, that he got caught up in the moment during the match and forgot about any agreement to deliberately get booked.”

The “not proven” option should be binned.

Did the jury have a bet on the outcome?

It has been corrupted over time.  For a while 300-400 years ago, the only two available verdicts were "proven" and "not proven".  A judge or jury was not asked to rule on the defendant's guilt - they were asked to rule on whether the prosecution had proved the case.  This, IMHO, was fine, but I can see the demand for a more black-and-white "guilty" or "not guilty" decision - you can just imagine today's Daily Mail demanding such a thing.

Scotland retained the "not proven" verdict, which has been corrupted so that nowadays it basically means "we think you're guilty, but the prosecution hasn't satisfactorily proved that" - thus tainting the defendant(s) who nevertheless walk free.

Because of how it is used nowaday, I would agree that it should be disused.

Here endeth today's history lesson

Getting back on topic, if the likes of Shane and Tom Walsh became fit again before the end of the season, how would you use them?   They haven't played since last May.  They won't be match sharp, and may not be 100% fit.  On the other hand, they may not be as tired as the others who have played all through the season.  All the games now are vital.

Keep 'em as subs, as is being done with Austin Samuels?  Or put Shane on as the big guy to complement Billy, knowing that you have a number of options if you need to substitute him after 45 mins or an hour?

Bring them on in the 120th minute of the cup final to take penalties.

But seriously, it’s a good question. Hard to see them featuring much if it all, given how long it takes to get fully match fit from the point they get back into training. Maybe a few sub appearances if they are up to it.

Agreed, probably next season before we see them performing as they can do. We are only just seeing Allardice hitting form now. Deas seems to have picked up quite quickly and now Samuels and McGregor are back so hopefully they should be hitting their stride in the next few games.

Given the recent punishment given to toney there are 2 thoughts here, the sfa want to take a hardline like England did and offer up a lengthy ban, or the media outcry and criticisms means it'll be lenient and support offered to allow our authorities to look more compassionate.

Not sure why way I'd bet tbh

A bit irrelevant given we’ve not offered Shane a new deal, but the ringleader Hester has been given an eight match ban, but suspended until the end of the season and only to be applied if he breaks the rules during that time!
