A Rose by any other name

Bonnyrigg Rose are the visitors in our second Group D League Cup game. Both sides lost their opening games and will be looking to get back on track. Only one competitive fixture between the sides and that was in last seasons League Cup group stage in which Inverness struggled to get the better of the Rose before edging it 2 - 1. We were fortunate to have someone on the park to inject that bit of extra quality to get us the win. That will be difficult to replicate this season. His name was Aaron Doran, our very own rose, and now abandoned by the club in his hour of need. Shameful stuff from the club, knee surgeon and all. Plenty of discussion around the club looking for new investors and you can read all about it on the link below.

AaronDoran.jpegJags a thorn in the Rose:  2 - 1 The first ever meeting between The Caley Jags and the Rose was played out during a thunderstorm. Torrential rain of biblical proportions fell half an hour before kick-off and that dampened the grass somewhat. Inverness were quick off the mark and opened the scoring after four minutes when Aaron Doran took advantage of a defensive error to score from ten yards. No pun intended, but the floodgates never opened as Inverness made heavy weather of the next thirty-five minutes before Doran curled in his second of the game from just outside the box. What a beauty! HALF TIME: 2-0
Big chance right at the start of the second half for Rose but Cammy Mackay saved with his feet from Smart to deny the visitors who are far from out of this tie. A raft of substitutions on the hour saw the hosts tighten their grip on proceedings as the heavens opened once more with Billy Mckay and Austin Samuels passing on great opportunities. Doran also denied his hat-trick by Martin's reflex save. Keiran McGackie headed home in the 90th minute following a set piece but it was too little too late for the Rose who gave a good account of themselves as Inverness fiddled with their line-up. FULL TIME: 2-1

To put it all into context, here's our starting XI from last season. Lewis Nicolson is currently recovering from injury and Charlie Gilmour and Adam Brooks are the only starters currently in the squad.

Starting XI: Cameron Mackay; Lewis Nicolson, Wallace Duffy, Zak Delaney, Charlie Gilmour, Roddy MacGregor, David Carson, Aaron Doran, Austin Samuels, Nathan Shaw, Adam Brooks.

Just a reminder from last season what we will be missing>>>

ImageRose drew 2-2 with Annan on Tuesday night and lost the bonus point (if you believed the BBC report) in the penalty shoot-out (7-6). Brad Barret scored an early goal for Rose before Annan struck back through Paul McGowan and Paul Smith before a late strike from substitute Brad Rodden took the tie to penalties. As it turns out, Bonnyrigg won the penalty shoot-out 7-6 after Annan's Ryan Muir had his spot kick saved by new loan signing keeper Tom Ritchie from Aberdeen FC.

That result will give us an indication that Rose won't be just turning up to make up the numbers. Kallum Higginbotham was a sub and provided the assist for the 87th minute equaliser.

That's their starting XI from Tuesday night at Annan>>>

Dundee beat Arbroath 2-0 on Tuesday night to top Group D.

What's the view of the pitch from the lay-by on the A9 like these days?

My wife has just suggested parking a cherry-picker there with a live-streaming camera on top.

No but Scot Gardiner of course.

Just don't think seeing a seaside level caley is appealing to that many in reality.

It would be streets ahead of the Pixallot offering Gardiner organised.

I wouldn't blame anyone who did just that.

The more we hear, the less inclined I am to put any money into the club. I feel really bad about it and how it is affecting the team, but I also feel that we are all being treated like idiots, and the lack of transparency in the club, especially considering all the awful rumours, makes me think that the truth is worse than anything that we have been told.

At what point in time did we start measuring a persons level of support based on the amount of money they give to the club?

Are those under 20 or over 65 lesser supporters because they get cheaper tickets?  Are under 12s in the north stand non supporters because they get free entry?

It’s not about the level of money spent, although to suggest going to watch for free on the bridge is a bit pathetic to be honest.

Everyone supports the club in their own way and it doesn’t make you any less of a supporter. I do find it hard to understand why you would choose not to go see your team just because of what is happening off the field though.

Clearly flippant comments are lost a bit online or to those who struggle to comprehend light hearted comments.

Your inability to understand the link between what is going on 'off the field' and what we have ended up with on the field this season is, I suppose your own issue. Perhaps one day you'll be able to see the connection. Perhaps in hindsight if fans (myself included) were not so willing to just keep throwing money at the club year on year recently the board et al may have taken notice before things reached the awful stage it has. We have, 'off the field' thrown hundreds of thousands at an impotent CEO and incompetent managers. If you don't think that impacts the 'on the park' situation then I don't know what to say.

I sincerely hope you enjoy the game though tomorrow regardless.

'Off the field' aspects have sickened me also tbh. Never been so detached from ICT as I am now.

The Board are pure chancers, charlatans, ego maniacs, narcissists etc.

That coupled with DF's mind numbing anti football tactics means I will not waste my time going to see ICT for the foreseeable tbh.

Absolutely nothing to do with seaside league in my case. I actually welcome new grounds to tick off the list.

Folk have to do what they need to do. If you want to attend games do so and I wish you enjoyment. However I will not be attending home games at present. Reason being the moral bankruptcy shown by the club in treating its past employees. I would ask one thing though that if you attend you respect those that won't. No need for having a go imho

Because things are now so vile off the park that it's the only way I feel I can make my own small protest. It's no longer the club that I first followed. Its players, fans, and employees are now treated with utter contempt by those in charge.

That said, I will certainly not discourage nor criticise anyone that does choose to attend home games.

I will actively discourage anyone from attending home games as it is my view that in doing so it prolongs the status quo.

Although I can't understand why anyone would want to do that I do respect their right to do so.  I won't hate on them for that but I will be critical.

I also understand there will be sections of the support such as those with kids who don't understand the implications of off field politics and won't want to deny them going to the football etc.

Our lowest ever attendance on the cards for today then?

At least when Gardiner leaves we’ll get another 30 back in.

We won't be there today, but I think it is a personal decision for individuals to make and totally respect the rights of others to go to the game. I had initially planned to pay on a game by game basis, but the secrecy and toxic vibes from the board have made me think otherwise.

I wish the team well and hope we get a win.

This comment from Ferguson " if you don't want to be here don't come" swung my decision today not to attend with my daughter. I was going to pay game by game but this gaslighting approach towards fans they have ignored all close season I find unpalatable. No one understands the reality more than the fans. Ferguson couldn't even define owner of a football club as opposed to investor and we're supposed to hang off his every word. Noone expects him to be a financial guru but a modicum of research before he lets his belly rumble would go a long way to convince fans he ain't just winging it, which he clearly is.

Like others I 100% agree Gardiner needs to be gone but Ferguson is part of the problem now not the solution. When his focus regarding the "new owner" is burning through cash he doesn't have nor in all likelihood will see before the transfer window ends ( I refuse to slam the window)

Here's a thought .. if the club were properly engaged with the fans they could have requested anyone living within a drive by of Bonnyrigg to do a wee bit research for them at their pre sesson so they didn't go in "blind" Building a picture of their opponent needn't involve sitting in a stand with a club tie, pad & crayons looking all important. All the forward planning skills of Sunak on a wet day in London.
