Amazing facts about Inverness?

What claims to fame does Inverness have? It is often touted as the fastest (or one of) growing places in Western Europe. Anything else over the years? Famous ppl or contributions to the world?

I know the Queen from the original Blackadder series was born in Sneck.

Inverness doesn't seem to have contributed as much to the world as other similar or smaller places.

Kirkcaldy for example gave us Adam Smith, Gordon Brown and best of all, Jocky Wilson.

Lets not forget Johnboy.... also born in Kirkcaldy....  :022:

- An unusual fact about Inverness - when given city status in 2001, unlike other cities, no defined boundaries were set within the letters patent.

- If UHI gets credited as a fully fledged university then surely it would have the largest campus in Britain (if not the world)? - covering an area that includes colleges not only in Inverness but also in Shetland, Caithness, Lewis, Perth and Elgin !!!

- Yvette Cooper, the Minister of State for Housing (and former Clinton adviser) was born in Inverness (http://www.yvettecooper.com/)

- "Famous" residents (in or nearby) : Penelope Keith, Jimmy Page (to 80s), Terry Nutkins, Anne Perry (author),

- Helen Mirren got married in Ardersier

- Robert De Niro frequently flies into Dalcross (or used to) for trips to Inverlochy Castle, Fort William

- Madonna (and other famous people) flew into Inverness on her way to Skibo

incidentally - Miranda Richardson, mentioned in the first post of this thread was actually born in Southport, not Inverness.

Not that Queen Scotty.....the ORIGINAL Queen from first series. Miranda Richardson was in Blackadder II and III. Elspeth Smith I think is her name.

Bob Dylan has a home near here somewhere. I know the guy that moved his stuff in for him

Here's something from Wikipedia:

According to Telegraph.co.uk 3 February 2008, Inverness is Europe's fastest growing city and is ranked fifth out of 189 British cities for its quality of life.
