Rummaging through my drawers the other day, I unearthed a wee gem of a programme, all ten pages of it. This was the Scottish cup third round match at Station Park on Saturday 25th January 1986. Nairn had arrived at this game after beating Meadowbank 1-2 in Edinburgh, with goals from Charlie Innes and Dave Penman. The scorer in the first game was none other than our own Graeme Bennett

Graeme Bennett “Nicknamed 'Grasser' for some reason” according to the programme.

Interesting to note that Dundee are really going full circle, as this article from the programme relates:-

The Club was formed in 1893 when two local clubs, East End and Our Boys, amalgamated, (recognise any similarities to ICT ). In 1895 the club suffered the record defeat of the Scottish First Division history---- 11-0 at the hands of Celtic. In 1897-98 the Club finished at the bottom of the league with only four points and almost all of the team packed in and left. In December 1898 after playing four friendly games the Club was forced to go into liquidation. The crisis brought out a number of old hands and a plan of campaign was drawn out and on December 20th 1898 the start of the present Dundee came into being. At the end of Season 1898/99 the Club moved from Carolina Port to their present location, the agricultural land bordering Provost Road and DensRroad. The Grand Stand at Carolina Port was dismantled and transferred to the south side of the pitch at Dens Park.

But, cheer up HeilanDee, the clubs first success came in the 1911 Scottish cup, two down to Clyde with four minutes left, Dundee forced the game to a replay, equalising with thirty seconds on the clock, and won a replay 2-1 to lift the cup

Hmmmnnn…….. something for HeilanDee to chew over.

Albert Kidd……….....don’t mention THAT name to me, the man that broke Hearts

Colin Hendry…….ex Keith player, who went on to star in Braveheart!

Ross Jack…………signed from Lincoln City

One or two names in there for the where are they now brigade

Jim Duffy, surely he would go on to be a successful manager and TV pundit?

Colin Hendry, sometimes striker and sometimes centre half, would he ever make the grade. Tosh Mackinlay, the same Tosh……Robert Connor, now manager at Ayr United, and who would have thought that Graeme Bennet would be pulling some strings at ICT. Now for Hearts fans, look away now, Albert bloody Kidd, yes the man who wrecked the dreams and left many a Jambo in tears on the Dens Park terraces, he has changed his identity and now lives in Outer Mongolia, (wishful thinking)

Dundee’s manager was none other than Archie Knox, Nairn were managed by the lesser known Mansell Craib.

Local Inverness shop, Turnbull Sports have an ad in the programme, they were the suppliers of Nairn’s kit.

Support your local heroes…...was proclaimed by Wm Younger’s Tartan, can you still drink that?

Dave Love, North sports editor for the P&J added his bit as well.

So there you go, lots of history within the clubs that we are now facing, and a long way for ICT to go to match them. I’m sure there will be some rough times ahead as well as the good times we are having just now, but when we look back in a hundred years time don’t forget where we all came from.

Oh, nearly forgot the score, something like seven nil to Dundee.

Incidentally, Aberdeen beat Hearts three nil in the final this year.

makes note to wife for Xmas, a scanner would be nice.
